A content hum escaped him as he closed his eyes, the sound of cathedral bells ringing in the distance.

His eyes slowly opened as he let out a sigh.

Lincoln was once the apprentice of a bell ringer,

initially, the boy helped the soggy old man with groceries during a storm. rufus would of course thank the boy, giving him mediocre some chewy treats and sending him on his way. but unsurprisingly, the young kalon would see this kind gesture as an invitation of friendship, and would from then on dedicate himself to this new friend. following this meeting, the paperboy, armed with gossip and goodwill, would make sunday visits to rufus during his weekly newspaper rounds, ringing his bicycle bell before 'rat-tat-tat'ing on his door. rufus can't help but appreciate the gesture, as he knows the boy only means well, even if his dentures might not agree. and so it began, for every sunday morning, the unlikely duo sits on rufus' porch, delving into the weekly paper while indulging in treats.
