valiantwoodName: Abrial
Pronouns: she/her
Prompt:
Abrial slowly padded along the forest floor, the small child Orru by her side. He was a scruffy little thing - a mix of Pichu and Rookidee with an attitude to match. She had caught him stealing out of her garden and was now leading him home. It was a quiet, peaceful walk, with fresh spring air blowing through the leaves. She hummed for a bit, occasionally glancing at the small ball of rage that was refusing to look at her. Amused, she decided to break the silence with a question.
"What's your favourite flower, kid?"
"I don't have one." Sniffed the kid haughtily, trying to hold his tiny head up high.
She blinked in confusion. "Don't have one? Kiddo, everyone's gotta favourite." She replied, happy enough that the kid was at least speaking to her now.
"Not me!" He squeaked defiantly, fur and feathers ruffled.
"Ya sure are a spirited one." She sighed, shaking her head slightly. She continued to amble on, expecting that to be the end of the conversation. After all, the kid didn't seem to keen on talking.
"What's your favourite one then?"
She paused at the question, surprised that the kid would ask her. She turned her head towards him, and even though he still kept up an air of being superior, it's clear the kid held some curiosity. She let out a soft purr.
"My favourite? Tha's easy, it's Pecha flowers," she replied. She looked up above her head at the small white flowers that adorned the branches of the bush. She debated on jumping up to get them to show Orru, but decided she was probably too old to jump around unnecessarily. Instead, she brushed her tail tip against the small white flowers, causing one to land on Orru's nose. The small fusion sneezed, causing her to purr with amusement.
"...Why?"
The further question from Orru was even more unexpected than the first one. This showed more than a superficial curiosity. She turned back to th kid with a soft smile.
"My mama tol' me when I was just a young'un that Pecha flowers signal the beginning of Spring. She said they were a sign the Earth was healin' itself from the poison of winter." She replied, thinking wistfully of the times her mother showed her around the woods, always talking about different flowers and berries and what they did. The fresh spring air reminded Abrial of her mother.
"...Do you ever miss your mom?"
The question caught her off-guard, and she turned around to look at the small child who refused to meet her gaze as he asked. She lightly swept her tail so it was curling around them.
"All th' time, honey."
Orru's voice was quiet. "...I miss mine too."
She looked at the child, absolutely heartbroken to see his pain. She licked the top of his head comfortingly before continuing to pad along.
"...Y'know kid, I could use someone tough like you around the garden, what d'ya say?" She offered after a period of silence. If this kid was truly alone, then he would have no home to go back to.
"...Sure."
