Range Trotter #2966

Postby faentofheart » Fri Dec 30, 2022 6:22 am

Range Trotters are the result of crossbreeding Orlov Trotters, Finnhorses, Welsh Cobs (section C & D) and Hanoverians. Later crosses of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosas to gain color and to give a boost to their hardiness. With a height average of 13-15 hands, they're a hardy breed with characteristics for various disciplines.

Created for use as work, carriage and leisure riding horses originally, they now serve as long-distance range horses, such as work with Park Rangers and mounted officers.

Willing and eager personalities, most are quickly trained to be bombproof and therefore trusted mounts in all lines of work; some are being seen in local show jumping competitions, others are notably used in therapeutic sessions for their calm temperaments. Harness races and endurance trials are common for the breed, as they are able to sustain an extended trot without tire. Cross-Country competitions see some of the taller Trotters, but due to their cob lineage this is still uncommon.

Despite the variety of competitions and work these horses are being seen in, they are still famously skilled as endurance racers. Many competitors have chosen Range Trotters due to their tireless work ethic, as well as the ease in which they can be trained. Many have become champions in endurance trials, and they have quickly become a sought after breed for their natural ability.

Show Name: RRS Farstrider
Barn Name: Strider
Gender: Stallion
Height: 15 hh
Halter Color: Something foresty
Prompt: Strider was born in the Pacific Northwest. The verdant green of the Oregon coast has run thick in his veins since he was a colt. To him the forest means peace, home, and, perhaps most importantly, stability. The soaring redwoods are old friends of his, silent sentinels that watched over his every milestone. They soothed him when he was weaned, encouraged him when he was first started under saddle, and consoled him when he inevitably had to leave his home ranch. Raven Ridge doesn't have redwoods, but it's got its fair share of high country aspens and willows hidden in the dells. These new forests come with new promises: they speak of excitement and adventure, of family expanded rather than replaced, and beneath it all thrums the same unquestioning acceptance he felt in his long-ago home. Having that safety net to fall back on has eased Strider's transition to his new home as precious else could have.

Show Name: Lavernius's Gotta Bolt
Barn Name: Tucker
Gender: Stallion
Height: 15.2 HH
Halter Color: Surprise me
Prompt: Being raised mostly on a farm that prioritized as an apple tree farm. Tucker was mainly used as a petting zoo horse, along with some others. Though he was able to help collect the harvest, he always longed to see more trees then. Along with what each tree produced besides just apples. There was a large forest opening on the end of the farm. But he wasn't ever able to get there, he was always interested, and sensing the mystery and new discoveries. Eventually, his owner sold him off to a national forest patrol team who were looking for some new horses to add to their team. Tucker was joyful. He would do more help then he ever has! Plus, see all the new trees, treats, and animals. From his career, he has learned about a lot, from the red woods, to basic pines and ferns. Overall, he loves the forest, mainly for the vast wonders it holds, and what lays to be discovered.

Show Name: YH Ambiguous Justice
Barn Name: Affinity
Gender: Mare
Height: 13.1hh
Halter Color: Artist's Choice~
Prompt: There's absolutely nothing more peaceful than the forest, no matter the season, weather, climate, or location. Every forest has something to offer, every forest beholds within it a sense of mystery. Every branch, leaf, stone, mushroom, dead log, has seen something you never have. They're the eyes of the planet, silently watching and unbiased. Affinity finds the deepest sense of herself strolling slowly through the shade of those wooden fingers, reaching upwards through a canopy of life. The rain or a morning dew, amplifying the scents of the foliage and the soil and bringing new life. Birds chirp in the distance, a deer crunches undisturbed over fallen leaves and discarded twigs, making eye contact with her but seeming unbothered. Affinity knows she's part of the forest, just as the deer are.

She knows that her presence may stir a few insects from their resting places or overturn a stone that's sat in one place for centuries, but it's all natural and meant to be. A warm breeze, or a chilly one, may blow her mane and tail around, throwing her own scent through the air and alerting the forest to her being, but it's how it should be. Her favorite moments in the forest are when she's able to find a soft patch of grass, warmed from the sun bursting through the dense shrouds of foliage above, and lie down in it, feeling completely at one with her surroundings.
