Unfortunately, he went to someone with...questionable... artistic talent, so when Essence asked for a snake, he ended up with, well, the artist said it was a snake. Essence is pretty sure it's the worst snake he's ever seen, but he also loves it because it reminds him of his younger years and has the best story whenever someone asks why he has a question mark tattoo.

the snake on their chest was their very first tattoo. its in honor of the pet snake they had as a child, Jingan. Even tho just a pet, it was someone Kyō felt so understood by. The passing of Jingan caused great grief and in its honor she got that tattoo. The other snake tattoos followed soon after inspired by their love of snakes and similar traits (many others compare Kyō to a snake).

Baem has always owned snakes, when in Charmling school he was known as the "Snake Charmer". As he grew older and continued to raise countless snakes, he decided he'd take his snake charmer nickname and make it something permanent. He got the two snakes on his wrist first, going to a close friend of his since Charmling school who was actually the first one to give him the nickname to get his tattoo done. His friend, named Sigil, decided to give him his first tattoo free of charge as an experimental tattoo since he'd never drawn snakes before, and the tattoo ended up becoming the start of Sigil's snake tattooing career, which reulted in Baem coming back to get his neck tattoo not even 3 months after!! His shoulder tattoo, however, is a completely different story... Let's just say doing a stick n poke at 5am on a Saturday night ended in quite a confusing tattoo.

tattoos???: The snake tattoos honor the places where each of their beloved pet snakes like to rest (with one preferring the neck, and two preferring to wrap around their wrist). As for the question mark? Funny story behind that one: It was their first tattoo. When showing the tattoo artist what they wanted they simply wrote "?" on a paper and told them "surprise me". Perhaps that was not the best idea.

tattoos???: The snake around her neck and leg is in honour of her best friend. She and the other charming grew quite close before she had to leave her to set out on an adventure. Since Beidou didn't know when she was going to see the charming again, and knowing that her friend loved snakes, she got a snake tattoo around her neck. As for the question mark on her shoulder, it's a reminder to question the unquestionable, something her friend always did. It also means that she never knows when she'll see her friend again but knows that one day they'll be reunited.

tattoos???: so basically in college they went through a phase where every time theyd date someone theyd get a tattoo of their name, and then they kept having to get coverups (snakes bc snakes r cool + intimidating) bc college relationships don’t typically last very long. the question mark is their most recent tattoo, its there just bc its cool and its devoted to no one but themselves and also maybe a tribute to paul danos riddler but dont tell anyone. now the only tattoos they’ll get are ones for themselves, nobody else! might get some more snakes, not as a coverup just because snakes as i said earlier are cool + intimidating.

tattoos???: Asteroid's snake tat on his shoulder is for him and his boyfriend!! they both love snakes and have been dating since they were young <3. The one on their neck is a tribute to their snake charm, which is named Kuiper!(pronounced like jupiter but with a k and not a j) They got the question mark on their shoulder bc a friend was learning how to tattoo so Asteroid let them practice on their shoulder!
