What are they smirking for?: Generally speaking, there isn’t any reason
for it. It’s like his resting expression. Quill is pretty much never seen with a
straight face, he always has the slightest of a smirk. Some suspect he has
a strange secret that he refuses to tell anyone, and others believe that he
might just be an easygoing guy. To Quill, smirking is just his way of going
“I’m harmless, but don’t mess with me.”
He’s more of the protective type, wise to the antics of others.
Easily predicting a threat or attack, some also look up to his knowledge
despite his somewhat intimidating composure. He often conducts studies
of his own, leading a marginal few to believe the smiles of his successes have
simply locked his expression into a smirk.

Many of these studies are for the benefit of himself and others, such as a
Kalon’s reaction time and ways to improve it. Quill takes these studies in
stride, with a wide grin on his face as he devises a new hypothesis. He’s
simply so used to smiling, he can’t help but at least show a smirk.

His paws thundered on, his pursuers behind him, but never close enough. He weaved his way past boulders and dead bushes, those that had his death on their mind ever growing further away. This was his home that he ran through, a place he had found many years ago. He knew every corner of it by heart, and knew how to keep troublemakers away. His latest act had a great grim on his face, coupled with frequent glances behind him. Just several minutes earlier he had stolen the group's lunches and they were furious. He knew how it would go. Just a few more days of his great fun and they would leave. He would be in hysterics about his antics for a good week or two, then perhaps in a month, more would come and the process would repeat. So he had come to repeat his phrase and he knew it was true.

"NEV- Ohh.. yes i was so so wrong dad. to make
up for my "sin" let me make you a jp sandwich "

james went into the kitchen. he grabbed jelly and
instead of peanut butter, he grabbed cinnamon. he piled it onto the
sandwich. "this will teach him not to disagree with me" james thought.
he handed it to his dad.

"why thank you"
stitch said as he bit into the sandwich.

james quickly ran out of the room,
trying to hold back his laughter.

Cinnamon was all over his dad's
face. "JAMES!!" stitch screamed as he chased after
him

james gave a smirk. he made his point.

"You... you cheated! You have to be cheating!"  the red-furred Kalon across from him exclaimed, pushing their paws onto the wooden table and shoving themselves out of their chair.  Mercedes laughed, and cocked his head.

"Do you have any proof?" Mercedes asked, crossing his paws in front of himself.  The other Kal stiffened at his question.

"I... n-no.  But I don't need proof!  Who wins at a coin toss thirteen times in a row!?"

"Someone who's lucky." Mercedes replied flatly.

The other Kal stormed off from the table, yelling insults as he left.  When the other Kal was out of earshot, Mercedes couldn't help the laugh that escaped him.  That was the third person today who had confronted him about his supernatural luck with coins, and the third person who had left his table with irreparable damage to their pride.  Although, this person sure did have a shorter temper than the last two.

"You really do have a talent for making people hate you, huh?" A voice asked from behind him.  Mercedes turned to see who spoke, and his grin only grew wider.  Behind him, was his old friend, Jill.

"Hey, it's not my fault they think I'm lyin'.  I keep tellin em it's paranormal or sumnth', and none of 'em believe me!" Mercedes replied, pulling out a chair for his friend to sit in.

"And look where that gets them." Jill replied, but she didn't sit, instead turning her attention to the opposite side of the table.  Mercedes followed her gaze, and saw a gold coin still resting there.

"Ah, he forgot his money.  Would you mind returning this for me?  Something tells me that guy wouldn't be too happy seeing me right now."

"Sure, make sure you don't die while I'm gone" Jill smiled and took the coin.
