trifeunds are a species of creatures that are created when someone is in need of a friend who understands their problems.
while created to be a sort of miniature therapist for those who cannot afford one, trifeunds stick around for their human's entire lifespan, and even much longer. once their human passes away, they go to a small pocket dimension with other trifeunds. these trifeunds can move from the pocket dimension to the real world whenever they please.

trifeunds can have disabilities and disorders, and often tend to match with their human do they they can truly understand their problems. this can include issues that affect someone physically, such as loss of a limb, or lack of one of their senses, as well as things such as anxiety disorders or personality disorders. since trifeunds are accepting of all others, they will not be shunned by other trifeunds for their disabilities or disorders.

trifeunds also possess magic that somehow allows them to comfort someone easier. this can range from magical abilities that make someone laugh or smile, to more passive abilities that calm someone over time. it is very rare that a trifeund's magical ability is not able to comfort someone in some way.
