Howl In The Night//Reimei
(Pronounced Ri-Me)
means Twilight in Japenese
Mare
White with golden buckles and faded black on the outside with a bat in the center of the halter.
This cute little girl can be a little jumpy, but that doesn't stop her from having some fun. Gator loves trying to scare her and he finds it so much fun when she jumps ten feet into the air after he comes behind her and yells "BOO!". Gator loves teasing her, but he always know when to stop and hates it when her feeling are hurt. Reimei loves to go on trail rides, but one of the things that she doesn't like most about them is that she gets scared of sounds that she does not know. When Reimei gets nervous she can start stuttering really bad, she hates it and she always tries to cover it up. Reimei also has a strange fascination with bats, she just love them and how they are so calm all the time. There actually is a cave in the forest near SHS and when Reimei can get at least three other tolters to go with her, she will go there and sit for hours, fascinated by the bats in the cave. The reason why she has three other tolters come with her is that the second time she went to the forest to find the cave she got hopelessly lost and she is so scared that she might get lost again.
Reimei's favorite thing to do is go to the cave in SHS's small forest and watch the bats. She loves it even more when Obie, her brother, and Hoshi can come with her. Sometimes she loves to just snuggle up with Hoshi and take a nice peaceful nap away from the noise of SHS's busy days and sometimes rambunctious tolters (That definitely includes Gator). Remei loves the bats and loves to especially see flit through the darkness like professionals, never running into anything and always knowing where they are going and if she could have a super power, she would want it to be night vision so she could be just like the bats.
Reimei loves to listen to The Nights by: Avicii. She will start dancing to it and she loves humming to it. She also loves what the meaning of the words are, live a life you will remember and she sure tries to do that.
Lost In The Woods: Remei's second time in the woods
(In Reimei's point of view, Word Count: 2729)
"Hey, Reimei, where are you going?" Gator comes galloping up behind me. A "Ah!" escapes out of me as he startles me from my quiet walk. Gator laughs and says "Oh, sorry, didn't mean to scare you Reimei!" I roll my eyes at him and he laughs even harder. "Oh, I'm going to that cave that I found yesterday, I saw some bats and I wanted to go see them again." Gator smiles and says "Well be careful, I don't want to have to go in there and scare out of those woods if you get lost!" I huff and says "If you ever scare me like that again, I will kick your Boo-tayy!" I make the word Booty longer as I shove him. "Aw, you know it was fun. You should have seen that look on you face when I jumped out from those trees! It was Priceless!" Gator dodges another blow and prances away, still laughing at the memory of what happened. I continue on what I hope to be a wonderful evening.
“Wow, I look up as I start walking through the trees. They look beautiful with the sun starting to come down.” I resume walking. But freeze as a hear a rustling behind me. “W-who’s there!” comes out a weak, shaky question as I hear more rustling of what sounds to be a large animal. Suddenly it stops very close to me and I stand wait for what is to come. A“Boo!!!” comes out and I jump in surprise as Obie comes charging out from behind two large bushes. I run and almost trip over a large tree root as Obie chases after me. Obie’s laughs echo into the trees and I start laughing as I feel the wind blowing through my mane. She starts catching up to me and I dodge in and out of the trees, trying to out pace her and she runs right into a tree. A “Oph” comes out of her and she says “ I. did not see. That tree!” She finishes the sentence in huffs because she is so out of breath then she starts laughing. I stop, panting, out of breath and laughing. "How did you not see that tree, it was right in front of you!" I say and laugh even harder. "I don't know, I was so focused on trying to get you, I guess I ran right into in." We both start laughing hearing her say that because she had just run into a tree.
I stop laughing to catch my breath and look at her “Okay, you got me, now what do you want and why did you scare me like that!?!” “Hahaha, I just wanted to get some action into my day” Obie pauses and winks “That and plus I wanted to see what you were up to.” I shake my head and say “oh, I just going to that cave that I saw yesterday.” Obie’s eyes light up when I say the word cave and now I know what is coming next “ Can I come!” I huff and say “Okay… BUT, no more scaring me today. Is that a deal?” “Aw, but it’s so much fun.” Obie pauses then says “Oooo-kaaay” I smile then say “Okay, then lets get going!” I pause and look around “...But where quite are we?” Obie’s eyes widen and she says “uh oh...I don’t know, I wasn’t paying attention as I was chasing you.” I look around trying to see if anything looked familiar, but nothing did. “Well, we should start walking. Which way should we go?” Obie looks around as well “Ummm” she says thinking. “Lets go to the right.”
-1 hour later-
“Wow, Obie! Look at that sunset!” I says as I see brilliant rays of sunshine shoot through the trees and a wonderful pinkish orange sky peeking out from behind the trees. “I wish I could see this everyday” I whisper in wonder. We both look up at the beautiful sunset, admiring its beauty as we continue trying to find our way to the cave. I look down to see Obie doing something with stick. “Obieeee, what are you doing now? We have to keeping going before it gets dark.” She says something but I tell what because it is so muffled from the stick in her mouth. “What? I can’t hear you with the sticks in your mouth. She spits them out on the ground “Ick! Those taste nasty!” I laugh softly and she grins that big grin of hers. “ Okay, what I was saying is that if we make a trail of stick, we could backtrack and go a different way to try and find the cave, or go back home.” “Oh! That’s a great idea Obie! How about we make arrows instead of just putting the sticks down so that we know which direction we went as well?” I smile over and her as she nods her head to me.
-30 minutes later-
I am studying the arrows that we had made along the path when I hear something small moving closer to us in the brush. My eyes widen with fear “ u-uhh. Obie, do you hear that?” Obie looks up from making yet another arrow. “What is it?” I nod my head in the direction that the rustling had been coming from behind us. She squints her eyes and starts moving closer to the sound. I whisper “ O-Obie, n-no! What if it is a coyote? We can’t go that way, let's just keep on moving forward. I jump as suddenly a sneeze comes out of the bush. “Whhaa?” I move closer to Obie, peering into the brush “Is that…” I never finish my sentence because whatever had been in the brush was now running full out straight at us “AHHHHH!” I scream, but I can’t move because I am frozen to the spot, so I just close my eyes, thinking of the worst that is about to happen. Then suddenly I hear the strangest thing in the situation, it's Obie laughing.
I peek out of one eye and all my muscles relax and a big deep exhale escapes from me, I didn’t even know that I was holding my breath. “Oh, it was just Hoshi!” I laugh in relief. Hoshi barks and wags her tail. She then yawns a huge sleepy yawn then looks up at me and barks. “Ohhh, I think you just found yourself a permanent friend there, Reimei! Just look at those eyes and how she looks at you, she must have been trying to find you, because I have noticed she has been following you around the barn. She must have gone looking for you when we never made it back to the barn.” Obie’s eyes twinkle with happiness and she winks at me. I smile warmly down at Hoshi and say “Oh, hi Hoshi!” Hoshi gives out a happy yip and jumps up on to her back paws, trying to lick my nose. I lower my head and give her a big, wet slobbery kiss. “Lets keep going, it is not too late to go find the cave, because I still want to see the bats.” Obie nods her head and I say “So, lets keep going now that I have a new friend.”
-1 hour later-
Just like the past hour Hosi has been right at my heels following me everywhere I go. That dog is so cute, I think to myself. “Hey, look over there!” I squint in the darkness of the night and peer past some bushes and I see a small light. “ Is that the cave?” I see Obie’s dark form move closer to me as she peers past me to look into the darkness to see what I saw. “Yes, I actually think that is the light to the entrance of the cave this time!” We continue and walk into the clearing that has the cave entrance. I laugh in relief and say “Yes, so it’s not all those other things that we thought was the light to the cave and wasn’t!”
We trot quickly to the cave entrance and peek into the cave. “Wow!” I say and hear my voice echo into the depths of the cave. “Well, we better get going to see the bats! I am so excited!” I jump with excitement and start trotting into the cave entrance, being careful not to bump my head on one of the hanging rocks from the caves ceiling. I hear an “Ow!” from Obie as she enters the cave. I laugh and turn around “Obie! You have to be careful, there's rocks hanging from the ceiling!” I look at where she has hit her head and say “Your not bleeding or anything, so I think you are fine.” Obie says “Why do I always run into things? It hurts!” I laugh and say “well, you just have to be more careful!”
As we walk I stare with wonder at the beautiful rock formations all out along the cave. I smile, listening to both Obie’s, mine and Hoshi’s footsteps echo off the walls of the cave and think, I am lucky to have friends like this that will follow me even when we don’t know what’s going to happen next.
I am thinking to myself when I start to notice a lot more light coming from around a bend in the tunnel that we were in. “Hey, Obie, I think that’s in the part of the cave where I saw the bats.” and remembering the that she had gone on the trail with me during the trail ride I say “Remember, there was a lot of water in that area and you could look in their and see lots of blind cave fish? We even saw the bats on the right side of the cave where it was darker.” Obie nods her head and says “ Yep, I remember because you got really excited when you saw the bats!” We slowly make it to that part of the cave as we talk about all things that we had saw in here.
“Look, look! Look how the water glows slightly from the moonlight!” I look up at the big hole in the ceiling and see moonlight streaming in through it from the bright full moon. Obie goes the edge of the rocks and says “wow, look at all the blind cave fish that are out tonight!” I go by her side and laugh slightly as I see Hoshi follow my lead, She has been doing everything that I have been doing tonight, that dog must really like me, I think. I look over the rock ledge and see quick bright flashes of silver go zooming through the bright shimmering water as blind cave chased one another.
We stand there for a while in silence, giggling or laughing every once in awhile as we watched the fish. Before I realize it I am laying on the ground with Hoshi snuggled up against my belly taking a nap. I smile as she kicks out in her sleep at what dream she must be having. “Hey, Obie, Look at Hoshi, she looks so cute when she is sleeping!” I whisper, so to not wake her. Obie smiles down at me and I look past her. “Wow, look at all the bats!” I say as my eyes slowly adjust to the darker side of the cave. Every once in awhile I could see the fleeting shape of a bat flying around and finding a new place to hang on.
“If only I could fly like a bat through the night, that would be amazing!” I smile sleeply as I watch a group of bats fly around in the dark of the cave like experts, never bumping into a single thing, always knowing which way to go.
“Hey, Obie, I think we should start heading back since it is so late in the night. I know the route now that we are back at the cave and I can’t wait to get back to a nice warm stall with the food and water that I love” Obie nods her head and says “Yes, I agree! Lets get back, I am exhausted!” I nuzzle Hoshi slowly awake so as not to scare her since she had been sleeping so deeply curled up next to me. Once she is awake she jumps up and gives me a big wet slobbery kiss then yawns the larges yawn I have ever seen. “Wow, look at that big yawn!” I exclaim and start to laugh. “Well, lets get this sleepy head back to the barn as well!” Obie starts trotting excitedly back to the cave entrance and I call out to her “Be careful! Don’t hit your head again!” Obie yells back to me “I am, don’t want to hit my head again, that hurt!” I laugh and picked up my pace to catch up to Obie.
-30 minutes later-
“Hey! Theres the barn! We finally made it!” I say excitedly. “Lets hurry up, I’m tired!” I say to Obie who nods her head vigorously. I look beside me to make sure Hoshi is keeping pace and start to gallop through the rest of the fenced in fields to the barn. As we are galloping I laugh as Hoshi hurdles full throttle through the grass besides us trying her hardest to keep up. I slow down a bit and say to Obie “Lets slow down a little, I think Hoshi might not make it to that barn if we keep going at this pace.” Obie nods and says “Roger that captain!” She laughs at me and winks and I roll my eyes back at her.
- 1 minute later-
“Ah, It sure feels good to be back in the barn!” I exclaim as we start walking into the barn. “Good thing our stalls are really close to each other! But I hope we don’t wake anyone in the stall rows that we have to go through to get to our stalls, especially Glory, she will freak if she sees how late we came back.” “Yes sir-y, don’t want to wake up Glory!” As we sneak past Glory’s stall I hear a rustling two stall rows ahead of us. I swivel my ears towards the sound, wondering who was awake at this time of night. As we move closer I hear a young and very excited voice say “Hey! You guys made it back! I’ve been waiting for you!” I hurry to the young foal who had been talking to us. “ Oh hey little guy! Why have you been waiting for us?” I ask. “ He jumps up and puts his knees on the stall door to better see out and says “Well, Obie is my sister and I couldn’t wait for her to tell me about the new adventure that she went on since I couldn’t go with her” I look over at Obie and she laughs and shakes her head “Hey little bro, you should have gone to sleep, it too late, you will be so sleepy in the morning!” “But I didn’t want to wait until morning for you to tell me your adventure!” Obie laughs lightly, so to not wake the other horses and says excitedly “Well, it was a very crazy adventure!” The young foals widen as he awaits the story to come. “ Okay, so first I saw Reimei leave the field and saw it as a perfect chance to go on an adventure, but first I wanted to scare her, isn’t that right Reimei!” I nod my head and say “Yep, you sure did scare me!” I yawn and say, “well, I’m going to go to my stall so I can get some sleep.
As I am finally settled into my stall I close my eyes and listen to Obie’s voice, and the last thoughts that I think of as Obie’s excited voice slowly fades away is that I have never been more thankful in my life for SHS and for the nice big warm stall that I am able to come back to everyday to sleep in. I start slipping into dreamland and think hazily SHS is my home, and that will never change and I will never let anyone take me from my home.
