myth, legend, or theory on why their markings glow?

It started a very long time ago, back in an old village on an island coast. Back there rumors were often spread about a celestial being hiding in the Yume Forest - a forest known for capturing whoever dared to enter and never letting them escape. It has been said that there is a plant in the forest that, if you touch it, will put you in an eternal dream-like trance. But, of course, there is no proof of this.
In those times Mori was a simple Viscet. Calm, collected, but also very adventurous. Alas, after a slow life of boredom, constantly being warned to never enter the Yume Forest. What does she do then, you ask? Well, she enters the forest.
Mori spent days in the forest. She avoided touching any plant that she didn't know what it was. Sometimes she thought that she saw a man, a glowing blue one, following after her in the woods. But of course this was just her imagination... right?
After three days in the woods she came to a clearing. In the clearing there were three stones, all varying shades of grey-ish blue. In the center stood a man. It was "the blue ghost man" as Mori often told.
He approached Mori, lightly touching her forehead, chanting in a forgotten language. After a bit her markings started to glow and the man stepped away. "I, Kirichi, give you a blessing of divinity."
Upon her return to the village the people rejoiced. Not only was she alive, no, she was a divine being. She looked after the villagers for years. No problems ever came to the village thanks to her.
Now, whether or not this tale is true is beyond me. Mori often likes to tell heroic stories about herself. They're just that, stories. So whether or not you want to believe this is up to you and your own mind.

Why do their markings glow?
There is a story that dates back to the very beginnings of the years the forest stood. The tale was of a proud guardian spirit that oversaw the forest and all the creatures within it-- a majestic beast which encouraged peace and equality among all. It was said that this spirit danced along the winds, painting them with its aurora and gorgeous glow-- its markings shone as brilliantly as the sun, with as much grace as the moon and so serene that one would think it was the materialized hum of a lullaby. That was many, many years ago-- however-- back when the forest was still superstitious. With years of experience come wisedom, and often times people come to neglect old traditions. The guardian spirit was forgotten to the ages-- and its name was disposed of by history and the people, viscets and wildlive which used to revere it so fondly. However, that is not where the story ends. Soon after the legend died, as if in response, there was a viscet born into the world. This viscet had the same glowing markings as the guardian spirit-- and was named, at birth, Aurora. Aurora was a viscet in character to the guardian spirit that had been forgotten-- as if it had refused to die, the spirit 'lived on' in Aurora, his heart full of the same peacefulness and glory that the legend of the guardian taught. The inhabitants of the forest believe that Aurora is a prophet of the forests' guardian spirit, or perhaps the spirit incarnate-- and therefor, they marvel a the glowing markings and see them as a sign of peace, tranquility and safety for all who gaze upon them.

myth, legend, or theory on why their markings glow?:

Julius' mother told him the story of how he was conceived in a genetics lab operated by humans. She couldn't tell him who his father is in any stretch since the way Julius came about was artificial. The humans trapped her mother for her extravagant tail and fur drapes and then replaced the genes of his real sire with the genes of an unspecified male into an egg she had only just conceived in her womb. The one thing that Julius' mother never told him, though, was that she considered aborting him in fear of what the humans did to her egg. Julius' mother had to convince herself that nothing would be warped or changed in a terrible and unnatural way in order to find such an idea repulsive, and when Julius was finally laid the only thing that kept her within the lab was the determination to /never/ abandon her child. The only thing that confused her was that the egg would faintly glow at times under dim light. When Julius finally hatched, his mother was simply astounded at the streamline blue stripes cutting their way down his pelt and the alluring electric blue ring surrounding his deep green eyes. Honestly, she was relieved that nothing else was changed about her child. Only a few days after Julius hatched, his mother, scared out of her mind and finally tired of the constant experiments on her body, was crafty enough to escape with Julius under the human's noses. She, to this day, isn't sure what they did to her or Julius beyond his glowing markings, but she hopes to never find out. (Julius believes that the humans most likely added a bioluminescent gene similar to a jellyfish's along with the male's genes in order to get his glowing markings. Hey, there have been reports of glowing bunnies, so his presumption doesn't seem too far-fetched. He is curious as to how they got the glow so localized, but for all Julius knows that might be a mutation all on its own.) This is the same reason why Julius was her first and last egg. Julius never once met his fathers as well- neither his artificial sire nor his true sire.

myth, legend, or theory on why their markings glow?

"Why do my markings glow? Well, I've actually wondered that myself many times. It may be because I was born with it. It could be because to the witchcraft performed and mastered in my village. Or, it could be the chain of events that happened before it started..."

Erebus, as he does every day, was taking a walk through the woods outside his residence. He knew the dangers, it was rumoured to inhabit fairies and demons, banshees and elves. He knew, but he went anyways. Humming to himself quietly, he searched for a walking stick. Suddenly, a flash of light appeared. It was blue, flickered like a flame, and disappeared shortly after he saw it. He looked up in fear. What was that? he thought to himself. He stood up straight, his eyes flitting around. He could see no sign of the apparition he had seen before. He resumed his hunt, and just then, the light returned. This time, it did not leave. Curiosity filled Erebus's head as he slowly trod towards the spectre. The light kept moving back, farther and farther away, but yet, it was not a will-o'-the-wisp. It was too round and ball-like to be one. He gazed with an inquisitive glint in his eye at the glowing phantom, a whisper ringing in his ear. Come closer, it said. He obeyed, not thinking of the consequences. The light grew stronger and the ghost led Erebus to a forest clearing. He ogled in amazement at lights similar to what he followed floated around him, whatever they were. A reddish orange one approached him. You have been chosen, a voice echoed in the viscet's head, come. He took a step, and as he did, his vision blurred. It's okay, it will only be for a little while longer, the voice told him. And then everything went dark.

myth, legend, or theory on why their markings glow; why the bioluminescence? first off, what is it, exactly? bioluminescence is commonly defined as "the emitting of light from an organism due to a chemical reaction within the body." It is most often seen within invertebrates and fungi, but what would cause a mammal to undergo such a reaction? Does it have the necessary chemicals in its body to produce its mesmerising glow? Or perhaps it has the glowing fungi growing in its veins (we most certainly hope not!)? After years of carefully conducted experiments and gentle tests with this creature, it has been deduced that this beauty does, in fact, have the chemicals capable of producing its glow. Inside of this Viscet, chemicals not found in any mammal are present: luciferin, the chemical which itself produces the light, and luciferase, the so called driving force behind the reaction. Now the question every scientist who worked on the project was wondering: what in the world caused only this mammal to be able to contain and even fabricate these uncommon chemicals? Many different theories and hypotheses were put forward, and the two most agreed, debated, and reasonable were that somewhere in this animal's evolution, it was somehow exposed to those two chemicals and eventually ended up absorbing them into its body, over a course of thousands of years, of course. The other theory was that, sometime before the animal was that as it is today, it was a simple plankton that can be found lighting up shores now. This second theory was eventually scrapped, though, as scientists felt as if the transition from a plankton to a Viscet would take much too long.

There is a myth that their markings glow for the reason of there is a place where only these certan types of viscets know about and it's a beautiful waterfall. The water has special " powers " in it which makes the the markings glow but only certain viscets can find this place ( it looks like below )

myth, legend, or theory on why their markings glow? Well, the reasoning behind Ardy's markings would have to be something along the lines of electroluminescence. Electroluminescence occurs when light is released in response to strong electric current or field. Ardy has spent time around electricity her whole life, and it might seem as if some of the electricity rubbed off onto her, although this is not true. She simply pretends that her fur is the result of her seeming connection with electricity. If anyone were to ever ask about her fur, she would cheerily respond that it's the result of electroluminescence, even explaining theories that are plausible and entirely possible, but never true. To go in-depth about electroluminescence, it occurs when an electric current passes through a semiconductor that contains tiny holes. As the electrons pass through all these holes, they end up discharged into the air, becoming photons. Thus, electroluminescence is formed. Arduino is quite proud of electroluminescence, and really just electricity in general, and has made it her job to become an expert on the subject. She knows how it works, as well as many examples of it used in modern technology. A few common uses for this technology are to light car dashboards, billboards, and small liquid-crystal-display panels (examples of which are computer screens, tvs, clocks, etc.).
