Where did they all go..?
████████████████████████████
Why did they all go..?
████████████████████████████
...
████████████████████████████
I don’t like being alone..
████████████████████████████
It had been the best time of my life; we’d all just finished school, meaning we had all of the time in the world to do whatever we wanted! I spent the first two weeks with my crew, playing video games and listening to music. They were all talking about their different dreams. Of course, I told them to go for them.
████████████████████████████
I didn’t realize that meant all of them leaving.
████████████████████████████
Over the third week, my crew had slowly begun to dissipate; with some members saying good bye, and others disappearing suddenly. The only ones that were left included Akuma and Connor, the latter of which I had considered a brother more than just a friend.
████████████████████████████
Akuma had come up to me at the beginning of the fourth week, wearing a skull mask with different colored markings and a black cloak, along with a scythe on a belt under the cloak. She claimed that she had work in different parts of the country, but she’d have to leave town.
████████████████████████████
“I’m sorry I have to leave so quickly, but I’ll write back.” She promised before running out of the little town we all had once called home.
████████████████████████████
After she had left, the town almost looked deserted, with only a few viscera left in the mainly human town, most of which were domesticated. I decided to go see Connor, knowing that I could talk with him and that he’d listen. I really needed to get this all off my chest.
████████████████████████████
I had memorized the route to a small hut-type house that he had owned after it got abandoned; nobody seemed to care about the upkeep of the house, so they just gave up on it and allowed whoever really wanted to take care of it to move in.
████████████████████████████
I opened the straw front door which welcomed me to a surprisingly large room, of which held multiple items one could find in any of the human houses further down the road; a bed, a small couch, which could only fit two viscets at a time, and a small television hooked up to a gaming console. He had the essential foods and water in a mini fridges. He seemed to be working on some kind of vest. I walked in and knocked on the fridge.
████████████████████████████
████████████████████████████
“Knock knock, Connor.” After I spoke he quickly looked in my direction, pausing in his work on the vest.
████████████████████████████
“Hey Liam! What’s up?” He said, a hint of awkwardness masking the grin he gave me. I laid back slightly on the armrest of the couch, closing my eyes.
████████████████████████████
“I just need someone to talk to.” I could hear his footsteps on the straw flooring growing nearer to me before the cushion next to me shifted, telling me Connor had placed himself next to me.
████████████████████████████
“What’s going on?” I could tell there was a genuine concern, despite his monotonous voice showing how many times he had had to ask the question before this time.
████████████████████████████
“Everyone's just.. gone. I know they all had some big dream, but some of them never even told me they were leaving..! They just up and disappeared!... and, Akuma just left, too. She had some kind of work in another part of the country and that she had to leave ASAP..”
████████████████████████████
My tone had changed from despondent, to a mild anger, and back to a despairing tone. I just couldn’t feel any knew way about the situation; yes, I’m happy the others went for their dream, and I’ll be even more happy if they are successful, but I am upset at the fact they all had to leave me and this town behind.
████████████████████████████
I heard Connor inhale through his teeth, making a hissing down with it, making me look up and seeing him rub the back of his neck and trying not to look at me. I could feel the gloom already filling my system. I already knew what he was going to say.
████████████████████████████
“Well, ahm, you see, Liam.. uh… I kinda wanted to head out of here too.. You see, I got an application a while ago to go on a ghost hunt with a few popular hunters, and it’s a good ways away..” I jolted into a sitting position when he said that.
████████████████████████████
I guess I thought right.
████████████████████████████
“What?! You’re leaving too??” I couldn't help but yell. He nodded a bit, his eyebrows furrowing.
████████████████████████████
“Yes. You said to all of us to follow our dreams and that’s what I’m doing. You can’t go back on your word, now.”now it was my turn to narrow my eyes, feeling small tears prick at the edges of them.
████████████████████████████
“But can’t you do it here?! I’m sure someone around here had seen something!”
████████████████████████████
“No, Liam, I can’t. There isn’t enough evidence to say that something is here.” He said, getting off of the couch and gathering his vest and a small backpack.
████████████████████████████
“I’m sorry, but you need to move on. I know that’s a hard concept for you, but you have to understand that nobody can be with you forever.” He said as he walked back over to me, placing a paw on my shoulder.
████████████████████████████
“I’ll come to see you again, but I have to do this. Goodbye, Liam.”
████████████████████████████
With that, his paw left my shoulder and returned to the ground, allowing him to leave the hut, and our little town. Tears rolled down my face as I registered his last statement.
████████████████████████████
Move on..?
████████████████████████████
...
████████████████████████████
Maybe I need a dream of my own.
