best scare;
ollie snickered, gazing up into the midnight sky. not a star was in sight, and the only light source was the glimmering moon and the dimly lit street lights. it was perfect. he had tried, over and over to scare trick or treaters, but no one seemed to be getting scared lately. but he cast those thoughts aside. tonight was the night. he felt it in his bones. tonight, he was finally going to scare someone, for the first time in too long. to make matters even better, the whole town was probably gathering in the square to celebrate hallo'ween.
the dark creature crept along the street, hiding in the shadows. he could see the bustle of people as he slunk closer and closer to the busy center. he could practically smell the fear in the air. he grinned, excitement buzzing in his head. ollie prepared himself. he wanted this to be his biggest fright yet. he adjusted his skull and leaped into a bush, watching the busy crowds with narrowed eyes. it was now or never.
he stepped cautiously through the bushes, all the while gazing at the stage everyone seemed to be gathered around. upon close inspection, it came to his attention that the mayor of the town as up giving a speech. perfect! ollie continued creeping, closer and closer. he stayed low, and silently slunk around the back of the stage, inspecting the area. no one was around this side. at least that would make this easier. his eyes landed on a two large lights, aimed at the curtains around the stage. they were shining on some cut out backdrops, presumably to create shadows on the front of the stage. another advantage! ollie seized the moment, creeping closer to the light. he let out another quiet chuckle, before jumping in front of the light, letting out a mighty roar.
he could hear the whole crowd gasping, the terrified murmurs of the innocent people. it was music to oliver's ears. he could hear the mayor trying to calm everyone down, clearly trying to make the best of the situation. but ollie wasn't having it. he spied the gap where the curtains meet, and acted quickly. he put all of his power into his hind legs and bounded up the steps, through the curtains and right onto the stage, behind the mayor. and oh, the screams! it was brilliant! ollie let out another deafening roar, and burst into cruel laughter and he watched everyone disperse. even the mayor was gone by the time his roaring had quietened.
he gazed out across the square. not a single living being in sight. it was glorious. he jumped off the stage, all the while snickering wildly. he drew a sharp breath, composed himself, and disappeared into the darkness, filled with a sickly glee at the fact that he had struck fear into the hearts of thousands. a fear that he knew would remain for many, many years to come.
