Autumn
Autumn is here! During the autumn, births will begin to increase in difficulty. Food availability will drop as animals begin to migrate and plants start to die. Fewer nomads are to be found and the odds of sickness begin to rise.

To balance out the lists, I won't be taking any more mod requests for now unless new players would like Wolfypoof or Spookypuff to be their mod.

My semester is ending so I will not be doing replies from May 2 to May 12, so that I can focus on my exams. I will do my best to get up replies prior to May 1.

As the forest had remained empty, so did the waters surrounded the dense vegetation. Rumors had always been floating around about what may lie in wait in the dark waters, the nearby creatures and humans too superstitious to want to venture near it - often, even the animals sought out different fresh water to drink from, unsure if they could trust the dark waters of the river and rapids. It was the different, those that saw through the façade of fear, that would dare come near the waters - animal or otherwise.

The stories of haunted rivers and forests never caused Kelby to recoil in fear, away from the rapids, as it did the others. They had even heard first hand of the people that had gotten swept away in these waters, taken by the undertow and never seen again, but the thought didn't fill them with horror. Kelby knew that something was different about them, and different about the supposedly haunted river. They just had to figure out what. Their sense of adventure, a a general lack of fear, perhaps a little too outgoing and confident, made Kelby into who they were. They vowed to one day find out what lay beyond the rapids, for they knew something magical would be waiting for them.

Kelby waited until the day they turned twenty-three. It was a quiet affair, as it often was around them - only a gathering of their close friends and family. Perhaps two or three others were there to celebrate with them, which was exactly what they wanted. It was almost going to be like a going away party, at least that was what it felt like to Kelby. They knew they probably wouldn't return to see their family or friends again, though they couldn't say the thought truly filled them with sadness. Despite having been around these others for nearly their whole life, Kelby always felt different, outcasted. Quite frankly, they were uninterested in the lives of the others; it all seemed so boring, so mundane. What Kelby really enjoyed was getting to know the plants around them, though their family would always shake their head. "Merfolks should be fighters," their mother would gently remind them almost everytime they saw each other. It was the same for their twenty-third birthday as well - another reminder that Kelby wasn't choosing the right path. But what did their family know about the right path?

"You know, life doesn't have to always be about fighting." Kelby raised an eyebrow, tossing up a piece of fish for their mother to catch in her hand.

She shook her head slowly, letting out a small sigh as they were about to have this conversation again. "You misunderstand, Kelby," she chastised, shaking a fist at him in a joking manner. "My life isn't about fighting, it's about doing what's right." Kelby didn't respond, their eyes gaining a far off look. "You're leaving us." It wasn't a question that their mother asked. It was a statement, and when they looked over at her, they could see the wary resignation in her eyes.

"Yes," Kelby nodded, giving their mom one last smile. "Tonight. I want to cross the river that everyone is so afraid of. I know it's now going to harm me." Another shake of her head, but Kelby's mother said nothing. She was perhaps good in that way, at least to Kelby. They could always ignore when she thought something was a bad idea, because she was never good at speaking her mind. Instead, she was good at keeping her emotions bottled up. Something that Kelby didn't want to deal with anymore. "Be safe," was the final words either mother or child spoke to each other before Kelby was off, racing towards the rapids and away from the life they no longer wished to live. They would find somewhere to study plants, to collect plants, to forage...

Kelby almost didn't notice how dark it truly was becoming, so lost in thought as they were. With a jolt, they realized that they had already crossed the threshold into the Aura River, cascaded beneath the fast moving waters of the Aura River. There was definitely something off about the waters here... though they could tell the water was fast, rushing all around them in a flurry of movement, it wasn't pulling them away from their resting spot. It was letting them be, so unlike any other water they had been in. Kelby let out a laugh, bubbles rising to the surface.

In the darkness, it was almost easy to miss the bubbles. Had an aura not been drifting overhead the river, Ardeki was sure he would have missed them completely. He was only out by chance as it was, attempting and failing to gather some more items or food. While Ardeki had been lucky enough to get a couple of mangos, he had to admit his skillset was much more comfortable with hunting that it was with gathering or foraging. He had stopped to splash some water over his face, letting the smooth waters of the Aura River calm him, when he saw the bubbles, a soft laugh filtering it's way into his ears.

"Hello?" Ardeki asked softly, glancing over at the aura that was still hanging about. He saw them often nowadays, though they usually decided to become transparent after a little while and move on, back towards the Aura Nightfall or into the Aura Cave to sleep or rest. This one seemed interested in the bubbles as well, which Ardeki took to mean something. They were mysterious, but they seemed to be good at communicating what he needed to know, at least so far.

Kelby gave a start, bobbing up towards the surface. A surface dweller heard them? And wanted to talk to them? Most others were afraid of merfolk, running away whenever there was a sign. Of course, their clan's tendencies towards fighting did nothing to suppress the negative emotions around merfolk in these parts. "Hi there," Kelby said, smiling wide as they saw Ardeki. They were convinced they were going to be alone, but this was much better if there were others around. "Do you live here, in the rapids?"

Ardeki tilted his head slightly to look around the forest as he shrugged. "Not in the water, if that's what you mean," he said dryly, smiling back as Kelby let out another laugh. "I do have the start of a village in the grove further that way, though..." Kelby followed Ardeki's gaze deeper into the forest, almost wishing they could see something. "Did you actually manage to cross the waters?"

"I did," Kelby responded, puffing out their chest in pride. "Well, truthfully, I barely realized I did it. I thought it would be harder," they admitted, a little disappointed. "I want the challenge. But anyway, now that I'm here, I had planned to settle here... but I don't want to encroach on your territory."

Opening his mouth to respond, Ardeki got sidetracked by the aura. It blinked a mild shade of green once before disappearing completely, as if the act had worn itself out. The conversation he had at the Aura Nightfall came rushing back into Ardeki's mind... in that the auras would tell him if a newcomer was worthy. He smiled at the cheekiness of that particular aura, knowing that they could usually only change colors on the full moon and at the Aura Nightfall. So they wanted this merfolk to join him... "What's your name?" Ardeki asked after the short pause, trying to see if the aura had truly disappeared. It seemed to have left the pair alone, going to recharge in the cave.

"Kelby," the merfolk responded, nodding as if to toss the question back.

"Nice to meet you, Kelby. I am Ardeki, and I've been... chosen, of sorts, to lead what is known as the Aura Enclave. I think I would like to offer you a spot in the Enclave." At Kelby's vigorous nod, Ardeki let out a true smile. "Then follow me to the grove, Kelby. I have a lot I need to tell you about the strangeness of life here."

Winter
Winter is here! During the winter, your villagers have the highest failure rate when looking for food and the odds of birth complications are at their peak. Additionally, villagers are more prone to illnesses and might die from even a mild cold if not taken care of properly.

The snow, which once looked fluffy and inviting, now seems oppressive and irritating. It muffles sound, scares away prey, and smothers plants. It may be time to look toward the marketplace for supplemental food if necessary. Otherwise, careful rationing should ensure that you survive these times.

the patrol found a mole, a badger, and a bat!

[scouting patrol]
oh no! while scouting the area, ekri slips on ice... ouch, he broke his leg. 11-15 KP and 3 posts of rest.

[border patrol]
the patrol encounters a dragon! while fighting it, breeze gets injured. thankfully it's only a twisted ankle, which needs 1-5 KP or 1 post of rest. the dragon also leaves behind a young! you may take it back to camp. the firedragons also bring some items! a compass, a stone dagger, and a stone pickaxe.

[border patrol: electric boogaloo]
the patrol found nothing, although the two firedragons brought some things! one brought copper ore, silver ore, and some wood! the other found a vial of medicine! (thank god lol)

[gathering patrol]
the patrol found a zucchini, a mushroom and a blackberry!
