When S'gan and Pumolth landed at the South Tower that day, hardly a moment was wasted. He ran inside, yelling for Nebenni while waving around a paper. The other dragonriders scattered, not wanting to get between the twins.

"NEBENNI!" he yelled, skidding to a stop in front of her room. Or rather, the room she shared with one of the other female riders. "NEBENNI NEBENNI READ!"

Nebenni was sitting upright on her bed, eyes wide and hands frozen over a book. "Serry," she said slowly, "for the love of little green dragons, what's gotten into you?!? I could hear you from the moment you arrived!"

S'gan's breathing evened out and he stopped leaning so hard against the doorframe. "We gotta tell everyone. Guess what news I've got from Mekhanikos. Guess."

Nebenni shook her head and made a hand motion for him to explain. "Obviously, it's good news. Tell me! Please. Without shouting."

A grin split S'gan's face. "Aiofe and Amicus have a kid."

"Wait, what?"

"They have a kid!! Produced through some kind of magic, but they. Have. A. Kid!! Can you believe it??" he asked, starting to vibrate again.

"Calm down, Serry," Nebenni said with a little laugh. "But that's amazing!" she said more seriously. "Did you see the kid?"

S'gan shook his head. "Nope. Was just there to pick up the mail," he said. "They didn't have anything they wanted me to do, so I left pretty much immediately."

Nebenni's eyes gleamed. "We gotta do something for them. Do you remember who else met them?"

"You mean at the Hatching a bunch of turns back, right?"

Nebenni nodded. "I know Riz was there--"

"And Bali and Jar," said S'gan, nodding along. "Uh, I'm pretty sure that Eshni was there?"

"Had to have been," hummed Nebenni. "We could also ask mom and see if she remembers anyone else."

"Absolutely. Alright. We're doing this."

"Don't psyche yourself out," Nebenni laughed. "Mom won't do anything to you. I bet she'll be just as happy for them as we are."

"Alright," said Eshni, looking around. The large piece of paper was spread beneath her fingers and there were a bunch of colored pencils strewn across the table. "Anyone want to do the honors of drawing?"

S'gan grimaced. "I'll sign but I can't draw."

"Ah, don't worry," said Riziolke breezily. "We already knew that. Good thing we've got riders who can actually draw so that you don't get lost somewhere!"

"Heyyy," protested S'gan. "Rude." Nebenni snickered and S'gan turned his glare on his sister. "You're a traitor, you know that?" he said. "Even Pumolth is agreeing with you so I've clearly been abandoned by everyone I know and love." Everyone started cracking up at that.

Eshni snickered. "Seriously guys. Anyone good at drawing?"

"I can," volunteered Fella. "I'm good with star charts and stuff but I'm not too shabby with other things."

"Not too shabby?" asked Rorria skeptically. "Honey, you're an amazing artist. Don't think I haven't looked through that sketchbook of yours."

Fella blushed and her face turned red, but her smile was tender. "I can do the drawing. Is there anything specific that you want?"

"I can help do a sketch," volunteered Jarshonen. "I'm not very good at the whole filling-it-in but I can do a sketch. I remember pretty well what they look like, anyways. And what about a dragon curled up around a little...uh...golem-robot child? S'gan, did you get a chance to see the kid?"

S'gan grinned and nodded. "They were adorable," he said. "Aiofe and Amicus weren't keen on me seeing them without them there but that's alright. I get it, new parents and all. They've got a robot body like a suit of silver armor, with little vines everywhere. Faceplate was red. I remember that. Pretty strong contrast."

"I can work with that," said Jarshonen. "It shouldn't be too hard. Do you remember the types of vines and flowers?" S'gan shook his head and Jarshonen nodded in return. "That's alright. I can make something up."

Fella nodded too. "So you do the sketch and I'll do the lines and color? Sounds good. And we can make it look really cutesy so that it doesn't matter if we get some things wrong."

"Cutesy..." Jarshonen muttered. "I can do cutesy. I think."

"Listen man," said S'gan, slapping his friend on the shoulder, "anything you draw is better than me."

"Absolutely," said Eshni. "Even Harishni could do better than you," she continued with a straight face.

"HEY!"

The next few days consisted of much muttering, pulling each other aside, and asking for a frankly absurd amount of paper. S'gan stayed by Jarshonen's side as he did the sketch, correcting him on the child's traits. Pumolth (and Siarlith) was used as a model for the dragon, which Jarshonen and Fella had decided would be all colors to symbolize the entire weyrhold being happy for the couple.

"I swear that the dragon is going to be the most complicated thing on this card," Fella complained jokingly. "But it's going to look fantastic when we're done."

Finally, the card was completed to everyone's satisfaction and the names were signed: S'gan, Nebenni, Riziolke, Balidosh, Jarshonen, Eshni, and Fella. Of course, they could have spread the card around to others who'd been at that Hatching but they wanted to keep it as a special present from "kids to kids". So much had changed since then. Hopefully, their friendships would remain.

Rorria was the one to deliver the letter as she was next on mail duty. It was a beautiful day when she went, with the leaves all changing colors and the sun unobscured by clouds. As was her job, she flew straight to Mekhanikos and landed at the designated spot. "Got mail for you!" she yelled, sliding off of Siarlith. "Got mail for one Amicus and Aiofe!" She grinned. Hopefully, they'd love the card.

The Abyssal Kingdom
Living on the edge of a deep sea trench, the Abyssal Kingdom is a deep sea civilization that lives far from the rest of the world. Few species can tolerate the high water pressures of the depths, and the citizens find it uncomfortable to leave the high pressures of the depths for long periods of time. Still, contact with other civilizations, mostly those that also live in the water, has been known to happen.
The people of the kingdom strongly value community and generosity, as without the help of others it's nearly impossible to survive in the depths alone. They believe in two gods, Euphoti, the god of light and the surface waters, and Umbran, the god of darkness and deeper waters. The two gods, despite their opposite natures, are not at conflict with each other. The monarch of the Abyssal Kingdom is said to be infused with the blessings of both gods when they take the throne after being elected by the people.
Homes are made in a cave system in the side of the trench, near the top. Most plant food is either found near the hydrothermal vents that are a short distance away from the caves, although some domesticated plants can be grown on the abyssal plain if tended to carefully. Meat is the main diet staple of the kingdom's citizens, as fish and other animals are plentiful. Whale falls provide an occasional boon, with hunters working rapidly to scavenge from the sunken carcass.
