The blue and cream she-cat smiled at Agraz as she followed him into the camp. She had small blue crystals growing
from her fur, and her eyes were a warm amber in color. She seemed gentle, but when Agraz had first met her, she'd
spoken with a tongue of pure fire. For having a water element, Oceana, as she had introduced herself as, was more
than met the eye. Agraz was definitally interested in her, perhaps even enough to make her a blessed. But again, he
needed to wait until Sybil died. The queen was due to kit any day now. Soon, he would know just how tough the two
other she-cats were.

Agraz smiled. Things were going well. In just a few moons, the unworthy Sybil would be dead, and he would find out
which of the other two would become his first blessed. Perhaps even both of them, if they were worthy enough. Time
would only tell...



Oceana dipped her head to Snapdragon. The horned female was kind enough she supposed, but there was just..something
that set her off around the lilac tabby. She knew it wasn't that the female was born male, she'd met plenty of that sort of
cat in the wilds. But something about the way Snapdragon acted, like she had this...fire, bubbling inside of her, ready to
unleash it upon unsuspecting innocents. It was especially odd, considering Snapdragon was a nature element. Oceana had
seen the plants Snapdragon had summoned, when they had first run into each other a few days ago. But then...Agraz...
He had that same hidden fire too. Perhaps it was something that just wormed its way into the cats of this group over time?

But no...that couldn't be it. Because Oceana had spoken with Sybil, and the queen definitely didn't have that fire. Maybe it
was just something cats were born with? But no...Oceana knew in the back of her mind that it wasn't something you were
born with. Because in the few days since she had arrived, Oceana had felt a fire bubbling inside her. A desperation to prove
herself worthy, to prove she was a good knight.

To prove herself, by any means possible.

Falcon and Seprenti both lounged on a large rock, warming their scales in the sunlight. perhaps it was from snakes that they got this temptation. they should be patrolling, but Serpenti needed to get something done. since he'd first arrived, Heron had been warning him about the dangers of speaking to the mana spirits. she'd said they were mischievous, malicious and even aggressive. he closed his eyes, thinking it couldn't be that bad, but harsh whispering filled his ears and his head. he felt like he was underwater. he couldn't speak a word. so he thinks we're not scary, huh? then the figures let out an ear-splitting screech, that made his head feel as though it were being cleaved in two. he realized they were laughing. suddenly the pale images of cats appeared in front of him. he thought he saw Heron and dashed towards her. but when she turned, she had no face. so, what do you want, huh? a ghost ran right through his taking away his breath and his heart missed a beat. he opened his mouth to speak, but snakes crawled down his throat and he collapsed twisting in agony. the mana spirits only cackled wildly. his crown of laurel changed to thorns, wrapping around his eyes, blinding him. he coughed and spluttered, trying to speak. all he managed was a few distorted noises. he retched, and the snakes came up, hissing at him, coiling around his legs. he gasped as they squeezed him, the he shouted over the laughing of the spirits.
"i request a magician!" in an instant the mana spirits froze, their smiles revealing ugly fangs, stretching to unnatural lengths and sizes. do you now? the apparent leader said in a deathly quiet voice. they all grinned at each other like maniacs. well, than let's give him a reason to need one! it snarled. advancing on him, he found he was cornered. he tried with all his might to wake up, but found he couldn't. silly mortal, its voice was distorted and low. don't you know that only we say, when you wake up? suddenly, they hissed. there was a bright light. he looked to see that the golden moon was rising. no, NO!! don't leave! we're not done with you yet! the leader snarled, in a high-pitched almost whiny voice. alright, fine you can have your magician! come back! we just wanted to have a little fun! but Serpenti had already walked away.
he snapped awake., and found Heron, Citrine and Falcon staring at him as if he had two heads. upon realizing he was awake, Heron's fear melted away, and turned to rage.
"i told you to stay away from the mana spirits! " she bristled. Citrine put a paw on her shoulder.
"calm down, Heron." she warned. "look, he's fine... i ... think. are you fine? you were screeching and thrashing on the ground, and you fell into a thorn bush." sure enough, when Serpenti looked down, his fur was filled with prickles he hadn't noticed before.
"it doesn't matter. what matters is that I've asked, and though they pretend that they can say no, they have to give us what we want." he said determinedly.
"alright, but in future, be cautious when approaching the mana spirits. if they do't think they can control you, the they can and will destroy you mentally. what did you see?" serpenti remembered everything that just happened and shook his head.
"i'd rather not talk about it." he said quietly.
"fine then. well, i'm going to finish hunting, Citrine, you coming too?" the tabby nodded and then the two she-cats stalked off into the undergrowth. Falcon started to leave too.
"wait where are you going?" he called after him.
"away from you! i need time alone, and i think you need time to reflect." he said, before vanishing into the bushes. Serpenti was once again alone, so he decided to patrol alone too.

Amalric shifted, a decision he immediately regretted as the cool sand was wet and clammy against his already-damp skin. He raised his golden eyes and sighed. It had been a long journey away from home but it had been worth it. This small island chain, that he was reasonably sure had been left "undiscovered" (many people had been more than willing to tell him about the supposedly-haunted island chain), would be the perfect place for a new home.

He stood up on wobbly legs, cursing his decision to swim the whole way. What had he been thinking? Evidently, he hadn't been. He had been lucky enough to avoid the selkies and the merfolk; from what little he knew of them, they were viciously territorial. And of course, everyone both feared and desired a necromancer.

He started walking inland, towards the glittering trees that awaited. Maybe in this place of serene beauty he would be able to forget. Forget how his sister's son had been so eager to fight to defend their home and never came home. Forget how his clan had pushed him to resurrect the dead so that they could fight on. Forget how his family had finally cast him out for bringing nothing but bad luck, despite being showered with praise everywhere he went. Because a necromancer was to be feared and appeased. Not befriended and loved.

It was only when the Phoenix-led army (for there was only one that they knew of who fought so viciously) had started devouring his clan's territory that Amalric had gathered the courage--or was it the cowardice?--to flee. Flee a doomed home. Flee a world that hated him. And so he had ended up here. Alone, but for the birds chirping in the trees and the footsteps that disturbed the dirt beneath him. He sighed, a human thing to do. But it expressed his feelings better than moving his tail or ears normally would. He was tired. And when they were tired, humans sighed. So he sighed.

When he reached the trees, he put a hand on them and was surprised to find them cool and glistening. Almost like crystal. A crystalline archipelago, he thought with some bemusement and wonder. The ancients truly were powerful if they could make crystal live. A rumble in his stomach interrupted his thoughts. Reflection was all well and good, he considered, but a hunt was in order. A hunt in celebration of his survival. A predatory grin slid up his face and he shifted back, falling to his fours in a heartbeat. Human form was too weak and too slow for this. No, better he do it in his natural form. The black-and-white great cat, small red and blue crystals jutting out from his spine, made his way into the gem-like forest. Slowly. Silently. Cautiously. Triumphantly.

Spinnet had always been interested in the unknown. When he was born with wings instead of front legs, his mother had said it was sign that the spirits held an interest in him. According to legend, asykarites born with black wyvern wings were special and had an important future involving the spirits. Spinnet had been raised praying to the spirits when anything bothered him, and he had been astounded to discover his fire-breathing ability when he was nearly six moons old. Once, he'd accidentally burned down a tree while practicing creating a spark. His specialty was breathing out fire, which he could then manipulate into doing whatever he liked. Spinnet adored soaring above the clouds, which was easier for him than walking. With wings for front legs, his steps were awkward and bulky. Therefore, he constantly hovered and flew from place to place. The horns that protruded from his forehead lowered the skin over his eyes, giving him a constantly angry look. He had struggled to make friends at a young age, but now he flew solo and preferred it that way.
On a day much like today, Spinnet was soaring over the land as he strengthened his wings. "Nothing like a good mid-morning flight to loosen up the muscles," he sighed, rolling his shoulders around as he hovered vertically. His tail hung low, but he honestly liked the way it fluttered behind him when he picked up speed. He drew himself into a lazy loop-the-loop and halted while upside down with a cheeky grin. As he was being silly, a low moaning shriek reached his large ears. He quickly righted himself and peered through the clouds to see a black creature without a snout. "Ubaritoks. Always ruining my flights," he groaned, swooping lower to see which asykarites were being targted today. Spinnet narrowed his grey eyes and bolted upright when he noticed the three young asykarites cornered by the ugly beast. All three sported scales and couldn't be older than eight moons. "Run! Use your powers!" Spinnet cried, lowering his jaw until he heard the familiar click of a spark being generated in the back of his throat. The searing hot flame roared from his mouth and it morphed into a large gaping mouth full of teeth as it rushed at the ubaritok.
The beast yelped as the flames singed the hair on its hide, but the three young asykarites trembled and stayed still. One with ivory scales closed their eyes and a wind whipped up around them in a circular motion. Still, the wind was weak and disappeared after mere seconds. The ubaritok advanced, and Spinnet shuddered at the thought of what was likely to happen to the three young ones. Yet, he couldn't stay or he was likely to be a meal after the ubaritok finished its snack. "Just run!" he called as he began to fly upwards. His own tail was more important than theirs when it came right down to it. If they couldn't even summon their power, then they didn't deserve to be saved. All asykarites should be masters of their spirit-given abilities, but it suddenly hit Spinnet just how few truly could weaponize the element. As Spinnet soared, he saw a beautiful castle surrounded by black roses that seemed to call to him. Whispers filled his ears and he slowly flew lower and lower until he landed on the front steps of the building.
Spinnet slowly walked forwrad until he was standing just inside the entrance hall. Thre spinning orbs of light circled around Spinnet, and three glowing asykarites stepped out. "We have heard your plea," they began, all speaking in unison rather creepily. "This castle is for you, Spinnet. You are to become the first Wahrheitssprecher of Die Akademie für Gefährten. Do not disappoint us," they finished, and one orb of light exploded on Spinnet's chest. He was knocked back onto his tail and the breath was forced out of him. The world spun before him until it all began turning black. As he slumped over, he saw the three glowing asykarites disappear into thin air.

❀ Spring ❀ | Ahh, the fresh breeze only carries hints of warmth, and the Fellowships no longer have to suffer the ill effects of Winter. Spring has brought renewal upon the lands, and bountiful prey. With sickness finally fizzling out, spirits are high as the days only get warmer and warmer. While the warmth means more prey, it also means easier births, new cats... and more predators; one should not blow caution to the wind just yet.
