At the top of an old rugged barn, a lone songbird sings, a melody low and haunting amidst the ruins. The rustle of tumbleweeds and the squeak of a teetering wooden fence hints this place has fallen to the wilds. Yet from behind those great oak doors, the fragrance of bread, fresh from a stone oven, drifts; and a spell of laughter sings, a rich hearty sound not just from one voice but a few.

The rusty hinges of the door open with a creak.

“Hello stranger!" A stray wind ruffles the sprawl of messy curls across the greeter's forehead. “The name’s Birchmist, and I see you’ve stumbled upon—”

The red silk of his bandanna slithers into shadows, swiped in the clever paws of a bright-eyed thief. The apprentice waves her prize like a flag and scampers off, disappearing in the depths of the barn.

“Ah cheeky, isn’t she?” A chuckle blooms on his tongue, gentle and sweet, as he waves back to her. “There’s a lot more where that comes from! See this barn is a temporary sanctuary, a place for all wanderers and travellers to gather, even the oddballs with all their quirks and the occasional thief. Or two, maybe three,” he winks, “They come from all walks of life, but they're all looking for a place to call home.”

Those mauve eyes settle upon you. “Please, join us for supper! Maybe you'll meet someone new...”

Q: How can I donate a cat for the readopts?
A: You can donate to our readopts thread by contacting an available admin with the cats you'd like readopted, or by posting on this thread! Either way, please be sure to link the cats for us. Your cat will remain under your name in the archive document, but their box will be red to indicate they are in the readoption pool. Once donated, you may no longer use them in any Stars mechanics as you don't technically "own" them anymore.

Q: Can I win more than one cat in a readopts batch?
A: Yes, absolutely! You may enter for as many as you wish and also win more than one kitty at a time. While staff cannot award RUs for the readopts, they may award HMs for entries they enjoyed / found hard to choose between!

Q: How long does each readopt batch last?
A: It depends on the staff member who is running this month's readopts, but readopt batches are usually quick and last around a week!

Q: I would like an extension for a readopt!
A: Please contact the staff member who posted the readopt batch and request the extension through them! If you can't find who posted the latest readopt batch, feel free to search the following in the thread search bar (with the # included): #currentstarsreadopts2026

Elkheart's spirit animal is the Elk! Elk are the largest species in the deer family, and that bit represents Elkheart's large heart. She is a very kind cat, and tries her best to be empathetic. She is social, just like the elk. She thrives in large groups, knowing that she has a place with the cats she loves.
Elk were given the name wapiti by the Native Americans meaning "light-colored deer" hence her light coat, and elk are also called "red deer" which attributes to the darkening on her nose.
