The National Range Trotters Association (NRTrA) holds local and national events for owners who have an interested investment in furthering the competitive development of the breed. While they only host and cater to Cross-Country, Dressage and Endurance Trial competitors, they are always welcoming of enthusiasts of other event types to come and take part!

Each event type they host has specific guidelines that must be met before entry is permitted, listed below.


• All competitors must have their stables registered with the NRTrA to compete.
• Trotters must have a show-braided tail to compete in Cross-Country trials.
• Trotters may or may not have feathering present.
• Trotters may or may not have a loose mane to compete in Cross-Country trials.
• Trotters will be barred entry if they do not have a Braided tail reference.

• Trotters must have a show-braided mane and tail to compete in Dressage trials.
• Trotters cannot have feathered fetlocks to compete in Dressage trials.
• Trotters will be barred entry if they do not have a Braided Mane & Tail, and trimmed fetlock reference.

• Trotters must have a loose mane and tail to compete in Endurance trials.
• Trotters must have feathered fetlocks to compete in Endurance trials.

• All competitors must have their stables registered with the NRTrA to compete.
• Trotters must have a braided mane and loose tail to compete in Harness Racing.
• Trotters cannot have feathers fetlocks to compete in Harness Racing.
• Trotters will be barred entry if they do not have a Braided Mane, Loose Tail and trimmed fetlock reference.

The National Range Trotters Association (NRTrA) formally began in 2015, by a man named Jackson Devin. Prior to his forming the association, his great grandparents owned a rather bustling ranch in western Europe, but immigrated to the United States in the 1930's. Though they sold many of their horses, they brought with them one Hanoverian mare, two Orlov trotter mares, a large Welsh Cob mare and a Finnhorse stallion.

After settling into their new home in the midwestern United States, they eventually imported two other horses; a large Hanoverian stallion and a Welsh Cob mare. These seven horses began their line of all-around work horses, eventually becoming the first Range Trotters, and they were well known in the area for their eagerness to please and do all sorts of work, as well as their athleticism when being used as jumpers in the show ring. Jackson's grandparents continued the line, but their children moved into other areas of interest in their lives and Range Trotters had a stagnant period for some time. Jackson began breeding them once more in 1999 at the age of eighteen, various interviews with the man stating that he fondly remembered these horses from time spent with his grandparents. The introduction of Quarter Horses, Paint and Appaloosa horses is quite recent, but has only added to the breeds hardiness and versatility.









• An up-to-date stable must be linked with each entry.
• Horses must have the correct corresponding reference image or item usage posted by staff on their adopt page.
• All horse entries must be linked to their adopt page, not their stable page.
• Horses may only be entered into one show per run.
• There is currently no limit to how many entries per individual, but this may change in the future.
• From show level 4 onward, Trotters should have a mane- or tail-dye free reference. (Modified, Elementary, 25-mile, Class I)


Trotters will be promoted in rank depending on how many entrants are within the same tier.
First place will always move forward a tier, but both second and third placings have a pass or fail roll to progress.
There must be at least three entrants in order for a promotion to be given to any placing.

In addition to promotions, first-, second, and third-place winners will be rolled for bonus winnings.
First placements will roll for a Twin Booster, Fly Mask or Body Brush.
Second placements will roll for a Dandy Brush, Dye Kit or Toothed Comb.
Third placements will roll for a Curry Comb, Trimming Scissors or Silk Ribbon.

All placings will be rolled as follows:
1-8 no winnings
9-10 bonus winnings


Trotters will become champions if they place first in the final show level of the entered discipline. They may champion in each discipline, all giving boosts per championship. A single horse can achive four total championships at this time.
The same stipulations of promotion apply, meaning there must be at least three entrants in order to become a champion.

When a horse becomes a champion, HowlingHooves will post on their adoption page stating the following;

This trotter is a Champion "competion here" horse!
They will receive the following benefits:
• +1 Breeding Slot
• +3% to Twin Rate


Each horse can receive +4 breeding slots and +12% twin boost.
Championed horses are more valuable, and once a champion is made a special shop will open up!

The NRTrA has a special shop just for members!
They offer a few items that will give their horse the chance to participate in their hosted shows, as well as some boosters in regards to breeding.

They accept a form of currency called Honorable Mentions, or HMs.
Artists will give out HMs to users in any adopt they host, with the exception of FCFS or Raffle types, to users they feel are deserving. These are usually based on a personal liking for any form(s) that did not win the adopt, and so tastes will vary among the artist team when they do give out HMs.
There is no limit to how many HMs any user can win, but artists should only award a max of three users per regular adopt.
Special adopts may have two HMs awarded per user, but only a max of three users may be given HMs. Special adopts are only posted at 100 numbers.

HM Masterlist


• Twin Booster - twin rate boosted to 15% in a single breeding. (20 HMs)
• Fly Mask - heterochromia rate boosted to 15% in a single breeding; will always be from parents. (15 HMs)
• Silk Ribbon - can choose the gender of a single foal. Only applies to one foal regardless of twins. (2 HMs)

• Curry Comb - can auto-pass one Common marking in a single breeding. (5 HMs)
• Dandy Brush - can auto-pass one Uncommon marking in a single breeding. (10 HMs)
• Body Brush - can auto-pass one Rare marking in a single breeding. (20 HMs)

• Dye Kit - can dye the ends of an individual horse’s mane and/or tail one or two colors. (3 HMs)
• Toothed Comb - allows the mane and/or tail to be changed. A must for competitions! (2 HMs)
• Trimming Scissors - can add or remove the line standard feathering. A must for competitions! (2 HMs)
• Dye Removal - can remove dye from a horse’s mane/tail. A must for high level competitions! (1 HMs)

Special Items
• Serengeti Feed - can add one random Safari Event marking to a breeding. (10 HMs)
• Striped Binoculars - can add one Common-Uncommon Safari Event marking to a breeding. (20 HMs)

All items, with the exception of special items, can be awarded to users in competitions or events.
Special items are only made available after the conclusion of the event they correspond with.


Each user who enters into the competitions will have the bonus is being added to a RNG list.
The top name after each show run will be awarded an Uncommon Import.
When using this prize, you must PM HowlingHooves to have your import created.
Check here for the rarity chart. All blue and green colored genes are allowed for this awarded import.
A halter must also be listed when requesting your import, so you can enter into competitions as soon as your stables are updated.
This Import cannot change hands, meaning the user who is awarded the import cannot sell, trade or gift the item itself. You are free to do so with the created Trotter after it has been posted.

RULES:
• All Trotters must be named, have a halter and listed in a stable.
• You may only enter three horses per show type at this time!
• Each horse can only enter one show type per round.
• All horses must have the proper reference or items applied to their page when posting the form.
• Entries that do not meet the proper reference requirements will be skipped.
• Show numbers should be updated with the matching form each new show. Quoting is fine, but please update the Show #.

All shows will remain open for three to fourteen days; there is no set roll schedule.
A warning will be given the day of closing for last minute entries, rolls will be posted the following morning at 10am CST.
