Swallowsight always looks up, but not up at an endless
sky, nor up toward distant dreams. No, she looks up for
the hawks that could swoop down at any moment. She is
the ever-vigilant protector of her family and clan, always
on the lookout for lurking danger. Swallowsight can come
off as a demanding perfectionist. She spreads herself thin
to keep everything under control, expecting the best of
both herself and others. But in rare moments she pauses.
Her gaze searches skyward for a different reason: she
takes comfort in Silverpelt. Her family is up there, in
glimmers of home and warmth. Their love guides her,
even when she feels the hollowness of their loss.

Swallowsight grew up in a warm and happy family, with
two loving parents and two lively brothers. The three
apprentices often ran off on adventures together, a trio
of inseparable explorers. Swallowpaw was the voice of
reason, keeping the two silly toms out of trouble. But
then Warblerpaw climbed too far without watching
where he was going. A hawk plucked him off the edge
and he was never seen again. The devastated family
could barely pick up the pieces before the next tragedy.
Right after receiving their warrior names together, proud
Grebecrest announced that he'd swim out by the Foggy
Scree. Other warriors had done it before, he said. He
drowned on what should have been their happiest day.
So when their parents had little Gullkit, Swallowsight
promised herself she'd raise him right. He was only 7
moons old when their father was killed by a rogue.
Their mother Greydream became a shell of her old self
after losing her lifelong partner. Swallowsight was all
Gullpaw had. She never let him out of her sight, terrified
of seeing him climb or swim. As his mentor, she barely let
him grow. She could tell he resented her oversight, always
running to play with that awful former rogue Gorgefang.
She could never bring herself to trust outsiders, least of all
one who was present when her father was killed. She can't
forgive anyone, especially herself. Sister, mentor, and some
day mother. All facets of her identity she held close to her
heart. It seemed that the more she loved, the more she
pushed her loved ones away. One by one, they will leave
her behind in the end. Now she lives a life terrified of love,
or more truthfully, terrified of the loss of love. Though she
feels some glimmers in her heart for Rabbitsong, she can’t
bring herself to get closer to him. She desperately holds
together a broken family, and soon, a broken clan.
