A bright, peppy cat who has far from lost her youthful spirit, Juniperthorn is a ball of energy. It is unclear how such a loud, exuberant personality could be related to the stoic figure that is her father, but perhaps Juniperthorn simply takes after her mother in this regard (as her appearance gives little question to her parentage). Juniperthorn seems to draw on a seemingly boundless store of energy, which can either be contagious or exhausting depending on the type of cat she’s interacting with. She doesn’t always fully think before she acts or speaks, however, with an impulsive streak that often does her more harm than good. She’s quick to either engage in daredevilish behavior at others’ behest or goad others into doing so themselves. Confidence and audacity roll off her in waves, sometimes making her come across as arrogant. If she deems something to be unfair or unkind, however, Juniperthorn will be the first to let you know, often overstepping bounds to make her opinions quite clear.

Though her excitable nature can bring her focus and ability into question, Juniperthorn is hard-working and fairly strong; although fickle in some areas, in others she can focus for long stretches of time, and luckily her duties as a den guard tend to fall into this. Her moods, however, do not, shifting quickly and often in extremes. It can be difficult to tell where one stands with Juniperthorn in any given moment—or where she stands with herself. She puts on a show of courage and boldness, but deep down Juniperthorn is fairly insecure and anxious. She refuses to soften her quirks for anyone else’s sake, but at the same time Juniperthorn worries about her strong personality only alienating her further. To avoid these feelings, she often buries herself in her duties to the clan and others’ business.

A warrior with seasons’ worth of experience behind him, Duskheart carries a firm presence that can either be comforting or intimidating. In appearance and outward demeanor, first impressions of him generally lean toward the latter; Duskheart is a cat of few words, but his quiet stoicism can come across as coldness or hostility, especially in combination with his size and might. Beneath the shell, however, he is a gentle giant with his clan’s wellbeing at heart. His physical strength is more than for show, but he dislikes relying on it—although not necessarily a pacifist, he prefers to rely on his words before his claws. He dislikes being reduced to only what he appears to be, though this is a private insecurity few know of. While he tends to keep to himself by nature, Duskheart is friendly and sweet when approached, but he needs periods of alone time even in well-maintained relationships.

Quietly self-assured but deeply humble, Duskheart isn’t one to brag, and he’s likely to become flustered at extensive praise. He tends to put others before himself; making heroic sacrifices is very much in his nature. His loyalty and respect are difficult to lose once they’re won. Hard-working and responsible, he upholds the warrior code by all means necessary, and he’s likely to come down hard on those who betray it—and, by extension, his personal trust. That said, he has a tender spot for kits and apprentices, and he is very much not a proponent of “tough love,” instead letting young cats’ misdemeanors slip under the radar, a creed of willful ignorance that his own kits weren’t exempt from. With an understated charisma and welcoming warmth, Duskheart is dedicated in his duties, although he’s known to prioritize them over his personal life. Between this tendency and his limited communication at times, it is debatable whether Duskheart is a good father or mate.

A jack of all trades and master of none, Kestrelpaw is a bit adrift in life. With no particularly sharp skills in any one area and few specific ambitions, they’re training to become a warrior, though they dislike the notion that they’re simply settling. They can seem at once far older and far younger than they are, with a deep-seated seriousness as well as a general air of arrogance. Although not necessarily unfriendly, Kestrelpaw’s personality can set others off, and they don’t go out of their way to forge friendships; to some degree, they see relationships as a means to an end. As a whole, they tend not to show much emotion, and they’re not bothered by their aloofness ostracizing others. While they don’t make a habit of actively interacting with others, they do have an ear for gossip.

Despite their overall demeanor of being above it all, Kestrelpaw is easily flustered—praise and other forms of positive attention are quick to embarrass them, though they’ll cover it up. They’re not a skilled liar either, with a tendency toward brutal honesty. Underneath their cool, apathetic exterior, Kestrelpaw is something of a nervous wreck. Their apparent confidence is more or less a mask; Kestrelpaw is genuinely prideful and tends to prioritize themself, but they are also prone to panic and a negative self-image, which they think of as weaknesses and aren’t keen to let show, hence their performance of the opposite. Though they’d like to do things their own way, they ultimately lack the actual confidence to do so, and thereby tend to follow any orders of older clanmates, however resistant a front they’ll put up when first commanded. They don’t necessarily have natural leadership tendencies, but power does intrigue them, and they’ll take charge of groups of cats their age whenever they deem it necessary. (Given their habits of judging others and trying to appear older and wiser, this is semi-often.) However, they are too busy figuring out who they are and what they want to be to truly entertain ambitions on this scale.

Always a bit sour, Cinderstorm’s temper has by no means softened with age—if anything, she’s grown harsher. In her heyday, she was a skilled (if crass and introverted) hunter with sharp skills and even sharper claws. Though her endurance and strength allowed her to attain a solid place in the clan, her personality was far from ever the most welcoming, with a deep-seated pride and brusqueness that won her as much ire as her battle prowess did respect. Her temper has always been short, and she’s never been quiet or shy about expressing her opinions. With a stubbornness both in and out of combat, Cinderstorm is quick to double down when faced with resistance. In some areas, she holds herself to a policy of strict honesty, and that ends up being the brutal variant more often than not.

However prickly she may seem, Cinderstorm does have some degree of a soft side, though she’ll grant anyone who outright refers to it as such a tongue-lashing. There is a quiet gentleness to her in certain moments, and her brutal comments are sometimes only to hide her true feelings. She doesn’t appreciate being coddled or humored, so she takes a particular liking to those who snap back at her. Determination and guts earn her respect above all else. With her kin, she is sometimes twice as vicious as she is with others, her anger born out of worry and high expectations in this case.

Cinderstorm lost her eye some moons ago. As the type who’s never taken vulnerability or weakness well, the injury cut her deep, leaving even emotional scars once it had healed over. Her first intention was to give up her rank and become an elder fairly young—as soon as she heard some whispering about her future, however, Cinderstorm made up her mind to continue as she always had instead, not necessarily overcoming but learning to work with the disability. Part of her had hoped to go out in her prime, but instead Cinderstorm has made it to the point of all but needing to step up as an elder, though she’d done so with gritted teeth. She carries herself with the same arrogance and brutality she always has, and she likely will until her dying day.

Much like her name, Phantom is something of an enigma. She’s been a wanderer almost as far back as she can remember, and she doesn’t seem keen to divulge who and what she was before that. Her past is a mystery to all; whether even she recalls it is unclear at this point. Whatever the case, she puts all of her focus into the present, so she might as well have forgotten. She doesn’t stay anywhere for too long, flowing from place to place without leaving behind attachments; the instant she can see herself putting down roots, she’s gone without so much as a trace. For a long time, she’s been alone, and she can’t imagine being any other way.

Despite her nature as a fickle loner, Phantom is very outgoing and friendly. She is the type that others are distantly familiar with but don’t know much personal information about—though she’s plenty happy to strike up a conversation with a stranger, she minds her distance, both physical and emotional, aside from small talk and other brief exchanges. Cheerful and constantly smiling, her demeanor is not one most would expect from someone who leads the life she does, but she seems to live to confuse. Beneath the bright shell, there is a degree of loneliness and melancholy to Phantom, but she covers it up as best she can. Overall, negative emotions don’t seem to come easily to her, or at least she hides them well when they do; it’s rare to see her angry, and if she ever is it’s often expressed only with coldness. Though stubborn in some situations, she is willing to swallow any pride she has and accept others’ judgment.

Though Phantom is physically strong, she doesn’t especially like to involve herself in combat. This is in part due to her personality, but also due to the limp with which she walks, which seems to have been sustained as the result of an injury some moons ago—her hunting skills have likewise ebbed, but she’s able to keep herself alive, which is all that matters to her. While not especially wise, she does have good intuition, and relies on her reflexes above all else. Her strengths lie most significantly in her affability and endurance.
