h e r b s

    • bindweed / Binds broken limbs.
    • blackberry / Root is chewed into a poultice and applied to wounds. Leaves are chewed into a poultice to treat bee stings.
    • borage / Leaves are eaten by nursing queens to produce more and better milk.
    • burdock / Root is chewed into a poultice. Heals and prevents infection in rat bites.
    • catchweed / Burrs are put on the pelt where poultices are. Stops poultices from being rubbed off.
    • catmint / Eaten to treat greencough and whitecough.
    • cobweb / Pressed over wounds to soak and stop bleeding. Can bind broken limbs.
    • coltsfoot / Leaves are chewed on to ease breathing and kittencough. Can also be applied to sore pads.
    • comfrey / Root is chewed into a pulp and lined in one’s nest to soothe stiff joints.
    • dandelion / Liquid from the plant is applied to bee stings. Leaves are chewed on as a painkiller.
    • fennel / Juice from the stalks are consumed. Helps hip pain, especially for expecting or kitting queens.
    • field mustard / Seeds are chewed into a poultice and applied to burns. Chewed-up roots act as a natural insecticide.
    • hawthorne / Flowers are chewed on to improve blood flow and irregular heartbeat.
    • holly grape / Root is chewed into a poultice and applied to wounds. Eases swelling and inflammation. The berries are tart and hold no medicinal value, though they are edible.
    • honey / Consumed to soothe sore throats and coughing. Sweetens otherwise hard to swallow concoctions, and gives energy.
    • horsetail / Chewed into a poultice and applied to wounds. Treats infection and bleeding.
    • lavender / Scent is inhaled. Helps treat most coughs, fevers. Also hides the scent of death.
    • mint / Chewed on to help digestion. Hides the scent of death.
    • mouse bile / Stored in moss and applied to ticks.
    • oceanspray / Leaves are chewed on to ease toothache.
    • pine needles / Chewed into a poultice and applied to wounds. Prevents and eases infection. When chewed on, treats yellowcough.
    • poison oak / Sap is applied to wounds to stop bleeing. Touching the leaves or branches causes a painful allergic reaction, however, so medicine cats will typically consume small portions of the plant to eventually become immune to its itching effects.
    • poppy / Seeds are chewed on to induce sleep, soothe shock, and ease pain.
    • salmonberry / Bark and leaves are chewed on. Cures stomachache. Not recommended for nursing queens, as it stops milk production.
    • seaweed / Placed on burns, stings, and other wounds to soothe pain. Has a cooling effect when damp.
    • skunk cabbage / Root is chewed on. Reduces pain from muscle and stomachaches. The leaves also produce a pungent odor, and will ward off most predators.
    • stinging nettle / Seeds are eaten to induce vomiting. Leaves are chewed into a poultice to bring down swelling.
    • wild ginger / Root and leaves are eaten. Cools fevers, encourages an appetite, and gives energy.
    • wintergreen / Leaves are chewed into a poultice to treat wounds and some poisons.
    • witch hazel / Leaves and bark are chewed into a poultice. Soothes stings, sore eyes, and other wounds.
    • yarrow / Leaves are chewed into a poultice and applied on affected areas. Extracts poison from wounds and heals cracked pads.

p o i s o n s

    • arrowgrass / Causes problems with breathing, coma, and occasionally death.
    • foxglove / Easily mistaken for poppy seeds. Can cause paralysis and heart failure.
    • nightshade / Consuming berries will cause a swift death.
    • water hemlock / Causes writhing, pain, and foaming at the mouth.
