axilyah had awoken before dawn, nightmares of the past plaguing his restless nights. he had only spoken to one other canine about it, and no one else needed to know as far as he was concerned. it was his business; he had simply confided in his closest friend, who also happened to be the alpha of his pack. rising to sit on his haunches, the hulking brute poked his broad apex out through gap between the door of his small unit and the train tracks, studying the skyline as the gradient of hues faded into a gentle sky blue. spotting king, the stud waited as he organized his patrol, nodding his approval as he was called upon to watch the camp by his younger superior. this was his duty after all; to watch over the camp when his alpha was away, and he was proud to do so. why wouldn't he be? this was his home, and the canines all around him? he considered them family.
"you got it, runt!" axil called after him, a devilish grin splitting across his cracked obsidian chops as the younger male began to prowl down the tracks, kalani and camille in tow. shouldering his way through the gap, the male narrowed his pale oculars against the sun's rays, squinting in order to give his pools time to adjust to the gradually brightening light. taking notice of his disheveled coat, axilyah began grooming away the grime and disarray, settling down on his abdomen once he deemed himself finished. satisfied with the state he was in, the brute was then discomforted by the snarl of outrage that sounded from his stomach, demanding it was to be fed. "I know, I know." the cane corso grumbled bitterly in response, attempting to shake off his hunger like one would a minor pest. though he would never admit it if confronted, axil had a habit of leaving his kills for the rest of his pack, refusing to eat until everyone else had been fed before picking at what was left of the meals his pack had eaten.
