fireclaw
sagittarius. warrior. location; forest, river. tags; paleheather

the forest was alive; the breeze floated through the trees, birds chirped overhead, and a chipmunk was looking for food near a small pile of leaves. it was so busy that it was completely unaware of the calico she-cat that had been stalking it for a few moments now. her body was low to the ground, concealed by the surrounding foliage. her eyes focused in on her prey, watching for the perfect time to strike. she placed one silent paw in front of her and crept forward so slow it looked like she didn't move. another paw.
just like thornsong taught me. a quick pang of sadness hit her as she thought about the tom who had mentored her all those moons. she blinked, chasing away the thought. she was in the middle of hunting, the clan needed food to regain their strength, she couldn't be distracted right now. the chipmunk lifted its head, finally realizing the danger it was in, but it was too late. fireclaw was already in the air.
fireclaw was an efficient hunter, the young she-cat was an overall skilled warrior but hunting was her specialty. she picked up the prey and began padding towards the river. as she walked she let her mind wander. it hadn't been that long since they had left their lands, since most of them lost everyone they loved. she was the last of her family, her parents and brother gone. her mentor had passed on early, the older cat had just moved into the elder's den when the eclipses started. his body and mind had been too weak. the young she-cat had been close to her mentor and grieved him like she grieved her mother. she owed all her skills to him and his teachings. she missed the slender tabby.

fireclaw had stopped walking, too lost in her thoughts to notice. her tail swished from side to side and the prey hung from her mouth. she was thinking about her mentor's last moments. the way his fur had thinned and his pelt clung to the bones underneath. food had been so scarce that the tom hadn't been able to have a decent meal in weeks. the young calico had lowered his body to the floor next to the tabby tom, licking the fur on his back. don't give up, young warrior. his voice was raspy and his breathing labored. fireclaw could tell the end was near for the beloved cat. his side heaved with the effort of his next words. starclan will take care of you. they would not let fireclan perish.
she shook her head. he had been wrong in a way. fireclan was no more, they couldn't be a clan with only three survivors. they were a new clan, she hoped they would once again flourish like they had. fireclaw let out a deep sigh and shook her pelt, gathering herself. she needed to look forward, nothing would bring the she-cat's old life back. she needed to build a new one. she looked out over the river and saw a pale longhaired tabby. paleheather, a waterclan she-cat. fireclaw padded towards her. not waterclan, my clan.
as she got closer she called out. hi! hello! how is the fishing? there wasn't a lot of fishing in fireclan, maybe this she-cat could teach her.

The glaring sunlight that reflected from the waters surface danced along anything it could touch. Silver scales flashed as they warped and contorted under Paleheathers fangs. Her ears twitched to try and rid her body of the sorrow she kept like a tangled briar brush in her stomach, like a permanent scar. Her nose stung as a new scent filled her maw, and it wasn't fish. It smelled like a stone that had been baking under the harsh sun for way too long, like leaves right before leaf-bare. She knew what the scent of sorrow was all too well, but this time it wasn't hers. Paleheather's sorrow ladled heavy with the scent of petrichor.
Who was this?
Her owl-shaped face slowly turned, minnow in maw, to see a koi-resembled cat awaiting her at the shore. A curious flick of her heavy lake sodden tail and a slow creep to the shore in a cautious manner.
Lillith referred to this cat as "Sagittarius", they were originally from Fireclan, a clan that Waterclan saw in rarity as their territories rarely crossed. As Paleheather carefully set the fish alongside the stone that cradled the waters edge, her attention turned fully to this molly.
"It has been quite a long while since I have been able to catch a fish. It feels so different finally having prey again" Paleheather spoke slowly, her wispy fur ruffling in the breeze that was cooled by the waters edge. Her eyes looked to the water, either shining with reminiscent or dissociation. From what she understood, Fireclan cats were very happy and excitable cats. They were very known for being overzealous in anything that they did. It made them incredible warriors with bright and fiery colors, and this molly was no exception. Paleheather was used to her calm and light coated companions back at camp.. The Fireclan cats, whenever a meeting was held, were always so colorful and buzzing with chatter.
"We always were so far from Fireclan" She spoke softly, as if every word she spoke hang heavily in her throat. "Fish were our normal. What did you used to hunt?" She asked, her eyes meeting her new clanmates.

fireclaw

she curled her tail around her paws and tilted her head curiously. she'd seen this she-cat at clan meetings when she was fortunate enough to go. she knew she was from waterclan and became a warrior at a similar time fireclaw did. but she had never spoken to her before, she'd always stayed close to her own clan during the meetings. fireclaw never took the time to really befriend anyone from the other clans before. though that isn't an issue now. the other clans are all you have left.
mice, voles, a brave cat might even bring back a snake. her ears lowered slightly. there weren't many fish in the streams that ran through our territory. my brother, sunheart, caught me one once. it was a lot different than what i normally eat. her voice only hitched a little at the mention of her brother. fireclaw was only one pace in front of her grief at all moments. it was like she was racing them, running along the river the two she-cats sat by. she was just running and running and running. the shadows next to her followed along, if she looked back she could see they were familiar shadows. the ones she lost, she could recognize the gate of her former mentor, the torn ear of her mother. but if she looked back for too long they would gain on her, inch by inch.
the breeze floated over them, ruffling their fur. the smell of fish and algae from the water hit her nose, the trees rustling and frogs splashing hit her ears. she looked up into the sky, there were no stars to be seen but she knew that starclan was looking down on them. i'm fireclaw. she bowed her head to the other she-cat. this was her new clanmate, she might as well get to know her. and the others. she dropped her own prey to the ground and lay down. the she-cat took a dainty bite, not wanting to have a mouth full of food if the pale cat wanted a conversation. she was hopeful, the patchwork molly needed a friend during all of this.

CLOVERSTONE

โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€
Virgo // Male // Warrior // Camp // Tags; Open

Cloverstone sat off by himself, eyes wandering around camp. His tail curled over his paws, twitching slightly. Discomfort had settled over him like a second fur recently, the newness of this hodgepodge clan something he still hadn't adapted to yet. There were so many potentials unaccounted for. Who was to say that bad things wouldn't keep happening? That they would even be able to repair everything? Lillith herself was another element that Cloverstone struggled to place in the picture that was his life now. That wasn't even mentioning the great loss he had gone through. That all of them had gone through. The pain of it still weighed heavy on him and if he thought about it for too long it felt like he couldn't breathe. He knows there was nothing he could've done, realistically, but the thought that he could've done more was ever present. He tried not to think about it for too long or else he'd become overwhelmed. The last time he had let those thoughts get the better of him, he had spent most of the day curled up in his nest attempting to stifle his sobs.
The new clanmates were also an oddity. Cloverstone had never interacted much with the other clans prior to Lillith gathering them all and found the small differences between the ways each different cat acted to be striking. He had never had a particular affinity for water, and much preferred never to get his fur wet if he didn't need to, but Paleheather seemed to love fishing whenever the opportunity arose. Fireclaw seemed so much more passionate than the cats of Earthclan, but maybe she was too overzealous. Cloverstone struggled to get a read on her. At least he felt a sense of familarity with Wolfpath, even if the tom was rather pessimistic. Cloverstone was sure he'd get to know all of these new cats in due time. For now though, he simply sat, surveying this new camp.
