i vaguely remember the "almost war". i don't recall my
parents shouting at the television over protests like
ferguson or the riots in new york city. i don't remember
learning about it in school either, but mom said there
was a reason for that. however ask me anything about
the sun and i could describe it to you like it was still there.
i remember i was in first grade when it erupted and tore
the rest of the sky up along with it. i remember it shooting
its flames down into our small little town of concord,
massachusetts. i do not remember that half my town died
along with half the rest of the world but dad practically
reminds me about it every time it gets brought up, along
with to how painting those in protest as savages had in fact
made our government the real savages. i do not remember
our president saying that to rebuild our country after the
sun's aftermath, those who did not agree with us had to die.
it appears, all i remember about the beginning of the death
of our country is the death of the sun itself and the birth of
the endless stars. the sun died in 2015 on a monday in may
and i know this is true because i witnessed it myself. but no
matter how many times i play it in my head i still cannot
help but think the sun was all a myth. it feels as though the
sky was meant to always be covered in stars and be able to
show you other plants and galaxies at all times of day. it
also feels as though i've always been living in a country at
war with its own government, though i've been told other
wise. and they say that i'll want to remember this one day,
the coming together of this town to fight for our freedom,
but i think that i won't. because stars are not gentle. they
are writhering, dying, and burning. and because of this
horrible civil war we're in, so are we.

in little concord, massachusetts everyone knew every
one. this included their name, their family, their
history, their relationship, their past relationships,
and what they believed would be their future as well.
your neighbors were nosy and very opinionated but
you tolerated them because they were your friends.
everyone in this town was friends with each other.
there are hardly any secrets and usually a lot of
drama, especially now more than ever with this
civil war going on. many houses have been abandoned
considering most of the residents in this town are too
tough to give up a fight that easily, and they have as
a result, taken up refugee in the high school along
with the rest of the resistance group. though the
dangers in this town are high, it's beauty and humble
elegance is still highly relevant. it's a peninsula town,
right along the atlantic ocean with cozy beaches and
quite a few boats making their rounds around the
town, probably headed just a ways around the
peninsula to boston which on foot is a thirty minute's
walk down a quiet road surrounded by forest on both
sides. walden pond, made famous by henry thoreau
the author, is a ten minute walk into the forest from
the high school, making it a very useful tool for the
group's survival. the main street is covered in small
stores and shops, and those that have not been
abandoned, their owners are assisting the rebellion
group by providing them with supplies and as much
info as they can get when soldiers come through.

into a somewhat organized structure. they have
two leaders, who supervise and direct the group.
the second in command is like an adviser of sorts.
the medics heal and care for the wounded. the
front lines, whom make up most of the group
besides the hunters, are the fighters. intel is full
of spies, scouts, and war experts. hunters are in
charge of finding food, supplies, weapons, and
other things the gang will need to survive.

little concord. rowan holds the record of 'most effected by war'
by far. she went from the polite, well mannered baby girl of
a politician to a renowned, stone cold medic within months.
rowan, or known as raz among the group, is known for her
criticizing comments and unforgiving glare. despite her frig-
htening demeanor, raz only put up her walls to protect her
gang and herself. she cares so much, in fact, that she became
a medic to assist the wounded. don't be fooled, however, raz
will scold anyone who puts themselves in harms way and then
ends up in their makeshift hospital. raz's motherly nature has
been cleverly disguised by her sharp tongue, for weakness won't
be tolerated in her book. she's so busy tending to others, she's
struggling with coping with the war on her own. the girl made
of stone is crumbling- it's really only a matter of time.
