♣ Jayce » opening

J A Y C E
┊male┊┊15 years┊survivor┊

Jayce awoke with a start, his chest heaving as he hauled air in and out, attempting to get a grip on his surroundings. He slowly became conscious, the rays of light filtering in through shattered windows reminding him of his location. He'd fallen asleep in a department store last night. He knew it wasn't the smartest of places to rest for a night but then again the city itself wasn't a smart place to be at the time. He'd barricaded himself in a small storage room on one of the upper levels, hoping the zombies below wouldn't have been able to climb the stairs anyway. He'd gotten used to sleeping in shady places, preferring his own methods of locking himself away in unsealable rooms rather than being in a group of people with others standing watch. He just didn't have the trust for that.

Jayce got to his feet slowly, slinging his backpack over one shoulder as he approached the door. He carefully began to remove the chairs he'd piled in front of the door, one by one, ever so delicately, so not to disturb whatever may have stood on the other side. He got to the final chair, several dead bolts and a sliding bar next to remove. He undid the bolts silently, the quietness that surrounded him giving him an eerie feeling as he slid back the bar over the door and reached for the handle, a final click echoing in the stillness.
A furious groan met the door, violent arms reaching through to the other side. Jayce let out a startled cry, stumbling backwards as the zombie pushed it's way into the room. Jayce drew his axe in an instant, freeing it from the straps upon his back and hacking at the limbs of the creature that grew ever closer, it's screeches echoing through the building. Managing to get on his feet, he raced for the window, knowing it'd be impossible to get past the pack of zombies that drew closer through the door. No time to open the window, he smashed it with ease with the dull end of his axe, hopping over the pane.

He let out a sharp cry of pain as the glass shards stuck into his hand though he ignored this, now perched on the ledge of a twelve story building. He didn't dare look down, sliding along the edge of the building as efficiently as possible. He could hear the low pitched shrieks of the zombies behind him, too dumb for their own good as they fell over the edge. He was safe now... hundreds of feet above the ground.

Lucky for him he'd escaped this way may times, moving towards a window on the opposite end of the building. He shattered this one with a single strike of his axe, hopping back into the building and sprinting for the stairs. He didn't care how loud he was, the goal now was to outrun them. Stair after stair, he hurried down the twelve stories in a spiral, finally reaching the ground floor and taking off for the door like a rabbit. His feet pounded on the cement as he shoved open the door he'd come in, breaking into the light of the street. This didn't stop him, continuing at a run down the narrow streets of New York, hoping to find a car or anything he could use to get out of the god forsaken city.

T R O Y
┊female┊┊19 years┊CRUCIAL┊

Troy had been awake before the sun, sitting atop the roof of the Crucial warehouse as she had done most mornings, watching the moon dip below the horizon and the sun take it's place in the sky. She found it peaceful here, often studying what lay beyond the vast mountain range. She felt as if she could see the whole world from here, everything much more tranquil from afar. She knew her group members would be questioning where she was soon if she didn't get back on the ground, her medical skills always needed by someone.

She clambered back along the roof, finding her way through the breaks in the rafters and carefully pulling herself onto the top floor where she had made her home for the past few years. Fairy lights dazzled around her makeshift bed, granted most of the lights were broken as she'd found them hanging off a street lamp in the city. Her room was bland for the most part and hardly a room at all. Just a corner off to the side where she kept her belongings, most of them tucked neatly under her bed made from old linens and rusted bed frame. She never minded these conditions, well aware others had it much worse during these times.

She slid delicately out from behind the sheets she'd hung to section off her room, the warehouse already buzzing with members of Crucial doing their work for the day. She wondered at times what their work really was but surviving was the best thing she could come up with. She honestly didn't believe the group of misfits would be able to develop a vaccine for the strain but she wouldn't voice this, knowing hope was all humanity had to hold onto at this point and even that was running out like sand between their fingers.

Troy gave a hefty tug to the bag trapped beneath her bed. She'd been store rations for weeks now, attempting to make her own care package she'd take out with her. She knew Crucial needed her medical assistance and she would do all she could to give it to them, but the outside world called her. She'd been in Crucial now for several years, practically raised in the warehouse and it just didn't seem like enough for her. All these years and she's never once returned to the city. She shoved her daggers into her belt line, heading at a quick pace down the stairs, hoping no one would catch sight of her making her escape.

April/Female/16 years/Crucial/ Location: Warehouse-> Out at stables/ Tags: Open

April starts to wake up slowly, as the sun hits upon her eyes, shining through the ripped sheets she had put up on the window, closing her eyes tighter she sighs. Not wanting to get up, throws the covers over her face, trying to go back to sleep, wishing she was at home with her siblings. Remembering that sadden day of losing everything... everyone... tears start to fall down her cheeks, as she sniffles. Shaking her head, she throws the cover off of her, sitting up and crying a little. Milo walks up to her, licking April's face, whimpering and putting his paw on her leg for comfort. April smiles, sniffling again, and breathing out, wiping her tears completely, she moves the sheets away from the window, as she peeks through it and back at Milo. "Good boy Milo," She says, scratching the back of his ear. She stands up, walking to the bag of clothes she had in the corner, taking out her shorts, and a halter top. Putting them on, she sighs, as she looks for socks, and finding her shoes, walking out of her room, Milo following. April walks down out of the Warehouse as she passes some people there, heading to the small stables that they kept the horses at, putting her knife into her pocket, in case of emergency. She always checked on her pets first, no matter what happens, they come before her. Walking into the stable, she sees Lexi, smiling and petting her snout, opening the door, so she can go out and graze. Following her she sits on the grass, her knees up to her chest, as she takes her knife out, flipping it into the air, and back down as Milo and Lexi play around. Sighing, she bites her lip, thinking of how different things would be if these zombies didn't come along. Asking herself so many questions, thinking of how she wished her life was, knowing it will always be the same, always having to struggle. April digs the knife into the ground as anger takes over her, but sadness is what people would see instead, as tears form again.

ILLIANxxxBEAUMONT. . .
STATUS / ALIVE & HEALTHY
TAGGED / TROY
LOCATION / CRUCIAL WAREHOUSE

Gillian woke up with a jolt, sitting up quickly and glancing around the place. He had almost forgotten where he was as he had been doing recently. He resided as away from people as he could get, not wanting anyone being invasive. He himself had been in the warehouse and a 'part' of CRUCIAL for a good while - he had almost forgotten how long - and had known where everything and everyone goes since ages ago, though he had also seen his fair share of people coming and going as well. He ran his thin hand through his messy, salt-and-pepper hair, letting out a quiet sigh as he started to relax. Even though he knew CRUCIAL and their 'headquarters' very well, he was still disoriented around the place.

xxxHe carefully dressed himself and helped himself to his feet, still exhausted despite how long he had been asleep. He rubbed his face carefully and hurried to pull out a small metal box, which was plain but very clean looking and particularly shiny. Inside lay tobacco and cigarette papers, along with a lighter. It might have been a little dangerous, but at least the items were sealed off. Gillian delicately toyed with the paper and tobacco, rolling it into a cigarette and lighting it. He carefully took a drag as he looked around, glancing up at the ceiling and around at the cloth and fabrics that lined his room to give him privacy.

xxxHis own 'room', if you could call it that, was nothing more than bare space with a couple of large bags which had multiple things thrown into them hurriedly, but maybe slightly neatly. He was an organised man, but became quickly demotivated. In one bag by his bed, there lay necessities and odd bits of rations that were still very fresh, as well as his gun that he used, and a few different packs of ammunition; in the few others that lay under and around his bed, he had articles of clothing and a couple of different pairs of boots and shoes, which looked the same. He didn't have much of a fashion sense and only chose what was comfortable for him, which would mainly be jeans and plain, long-sleeved shirts or jackets.

xxxAfter some minutes, he carefully crept out, smoking quietly and striding around cautiously, glancing at the sudden crowd of people who adorned the warehouse, gazing over their shoulders as they worked. He caught side of someone moving quickly in the corner of his eye, glancing to the stairs and noticing a girl. A medic, if he recalled right. He watched her carefully, increasing his stride as he started to wonder why she was in such a hurry, unless she had seen something he hadn't.

xxx"Where do you think you're going, girl?" he called, almost shouting; his voice was hoarse, plagued with his difficult accent which made him sound like he had a cold. As he spoke, the cigarette hung limply between his teeth and at the corner of his thin, dry lips. He removed it mid-sentence, exhaling the smoke that had taken rest within his mouth while the cigarette was in there.

Troy's thoughts were disturbed and she stopped dead in her tracks, Gillian standing in her path. She watched the smoke from his cigarette slip past his lips and shifted her weight, adjusting the bag on her shoulder. The man was infamous around CRUCIAL, every member knew his name well and most were intimidated by his sly demeanor. Troy tried not to let this phase her but it was evident by the way he carried himself he knew this information, using his status to his advantage.
"Just going to check up on the members on the lower floor," Troy lied through her teeth, hoping it wasn't that noticeable, "Injuries aren't few and far between around here." She spoke delicately.

Her brother had always been the liar of the family and Troy was never any good at it but had tried her best despite this. She was too genuine for lies, having no time to perfect her pokerface as she'd always been honest with people. She glanced towards the next set of stairs down to the ground floor of the warehouse. She only needed to get down and then slip out the back, the front being too obvious.

River drew back the string of his crossbow, loading in a bolt with a heavy click. He stared intently down the back of the bow, lining the point up to his target, which was a decaying apple on one of the trees behind the warehouse. River took in a delicate breath, squeezing the trigger as he exhaled. The arrow sailed off, striking the apple's side, chunks of juicy fruit scattered through the air. River propped his crossbow against his leg, resting his arm atop it as he gave a content sigh, followed by a smile which was only seen when he was specifically proud of something.

The boy dropped his crossbow carefully into his backpack, slinging it over his shoulder and looking back in the direction of the warehouse. The hidden door was propped open by a rock he'd set there, knowing if it had slid closed there was no way to get back in from this end of the structure. This exit had been covered with debris and fallen rafters, just some of the wear and tear damage that had come with the warehouse. River was one of the only ones in the group who was small enough to slip past all of it, making this his very own private spot for target practice.

River slid delicately through the opening between the door and wall, trying not to disturb the rock he'd set up, rolling it out of the way as he entered back into the dim light of the warehouse. He ducked briefly, crawling through the rotting beams that lay overhead, picking himself up as he arrived on the other side, on the ground level of the warehouse. He dusted off his knees, short plumes of dirt released into the sky as he brushed himself off, his eyes adjusting to the candle lit darkness of the CRUCIAL headquarters.

His glance shifted to Troy who was seen hurrying down the steps of the third story. He could see the second floor from his position, his sister looking anxious as she was stopped by one of the older members, Gillian. Curious to see, River hopped up onto the beams and began to climb his way to the second level. He had found a loft located above his hidden exit but most of the CRUCIAL members found climbing to it much too tedious so he'd claimed it as his own a while back, able to see each floor from here and study the place as members moved around rapidly.

●● Alone. He had been alone for a while now. Nothing new, nothing out of his ordinary. Not like he chose that fate but his parents instead, when they left him for bait. A par of him died that day. Perhaps the naive part. Levi shook his head and growled s he walked on. Memories burned more then anything now a days. A bitterness grew with the memories so maybe the memories were what burned...maybe cause they burned cause they were bad. Oh well. He'd take his chances. Levi found himself smiling. Yes... a smile on his lips in a world like this. Shame on him for daring to smile but he couldn't help it.

A groan made him turn and look toward a horde quickly moving at him. Levi backed up with a smile glued on his lips and began running the zombies in tow behind him. They were stuck on him. He almost got side tracked by the zombie corpse falling Rom the sky. He tensed and looked up a mere second to see a living breathing body about twelve stories up. Levi grunted as a zombie leaned into him snapping its decomposed jaws in his face. He pulled out his pocket knife and stabbed into its face and shoving it back. He growled low and starts running again before jumping up onto a crate away from the dead clawing at him he jumped onto the roof of a semi crate nearly falling at first. He winced before pulling himself up all the way.

Panting, Levi smiled once more and laid back. He still had view of the kid on the building. Perfect view of the dead falling from the window as well. He adjusted and listened to the groaning all around him. His attention was on the kid however.

He studied him for a moment, slowing his pace to a jog and glancing over his shoulder to check his back for zombies. The street was clear now, which seemed almost odd at this point. He slipped his axe back into the straps of his bag, hoping the other boy would see this as a sign that he wasn't hostile. He approached carefully, getting his breathing under control from the mad dash out of the department store.

♏ | Glacev | ♂ ..........

18 years | Survivor .....

Lover: N/A; Crush: N/A

Tags; N/A ................

-----------------------------

..........Glacev immediately woke from the shallow sleep he has been drifting through as a heard a small creak. He instantly bolted upright, grasping for his machete as he became aware of what was happening. He was in the skeleton of a parking garage, in the small closed off room which housed the elevators that were long past unusable. He had blocked the door with random items he had scavenged from the few cars that were still in the multi-level structure. He unfortunately did not have the key to lock the room, and this was only a small rest-stop. There was only one exit, aside from the glass windows that were still far too close to the door to be of any use; this was a particularly dangerous spot to set up a camp, even temporary, but he was desperate to find some place to sleep. It had been a long time since he had a nice long rest, and a full night's sleep. He had been running on empty for about three days, switching places each night and never finding a good one without any zombie residents. His current situation was far from ideal, but luckily the parking garage did not have too many zombies. Of course, it wasn't completely free of the undead intruders.
--

..........Glacev stood up slowly, trying to not make any noise as his carefully lifted his weapon off of the floor. The garage echoed far too much to make any noise. He realized that perhaps he should've thought of that last night, but it's hard to think on very little sleep. He slowly and carefully approached the door, looking out the window. The structure of the building managed to let in a lot of light from the sun, but the room he was in was still fairly dark. There was a zombie hobbling toward the door, making slow progress but had obviously caught his scent or whatever zombies do. He only saw one, which at least would make it easier to deal with. He quickly packed up the sleeping bag; his weapons and the bag were the only things he took with him, but frequently has to get new sleeping bags or other bedding as he usually gets awoken abruptly and is forced to leave them behind. He figured that there was enough time before the zombie would get too close to him and start making loud noises. He tied the cords attached to the sleeping bad around his waist and started unblocking the door. He had to move quickly before the zombie appeared and started making too much noise, but all didn't want to make much noise himself. He moved various boxes, shopping bags, a baby seat, and a few other miscellaneous items.
--

..........He looked out of the window as he finished and was startled to see that the zombie was only a few feet away from the door now. He ripped it open quickly, making sure not to let it bang on the wall. Still gripping his machete in his hand, he stepped out of the room and swiftly swung at it, taking two swipes to the skull before he penetrated it and the body crumpled to the ground. He let out a quick breath, realizing that he hadn't been breathing as he did that. He quickly darted back into the room, grabbed his golf club, and strapped it to his waist with the sleeping bag. The club was cumbersome, but he couldn't bring himself to let it go. It was his first weapon, and trustworthy at dispatching zombies and working as a useful tool on occasion which the machete would not be able to do. He started heading down the ramp, walking lightly so his footsteps wouldn't echo. He was about three floors up and there were no other buildings around for him to cross to. He did not want to be on the streets--he much more preferred an aerial view--but it seemed that it was his only option. He made his way down the ramp to the 2nd floor. He wondered how he had navigated the garage to get up, because it slightly confused him even now, he couldn't imagine how it must've been when he was tired, but he apparently managed it. He only had a vague memory of making his way up last night.
--

..........Another shuffling sound coming from the next floor dragged his attention away from his thoughts of the journey he had last night. He needed to be in the present; daydreaming was dangerous nowadays. He gripped his machete tighter, raising it from the position at his side he had been holding it at prior. He quickly rounded the corner, seeing two zombies, one about 15 feet away, and the other about 25. He quickly walked towards them; the only exit was to go through them, unless he wanted to jump, but since there were only two and a reasonable distance apart he figured it would be easier to just dispatch them quickly. They were taken out with not a whole lot of trouble, but the thumps they made as they fell concerned him. He started walking faster than he had before.
