Annoyance prickled beneath Hawkeye's pelt as Ivythorn's words reached her ears. She knew the warrior was probably only trying to help, but it hurt her pride a bit, not to mention Birdpaw's and Rabbitfur's. From what she'd been told, there was only one loner in their territory, already being held up by Crowthorn and Tumblestone. Combine them with herself, Rabbitfur, and Birdpaw, and you had one loner versus four warriors and one almost-warrior. She was sure they could handle this cat on their own. "We've got this," she murmured to Rabbitfur as if reading his thoughts, bumping his flank with her own.

Sunpaw scuffed the ground with her paws. She thought he was only saying that. "Thanks," she mumbled, digging a hole for the squirrel and burying it. When Starlingpaw returned with his own catch, she looked impressed that he had caught two birds so quickly. "Good one!" she complimented before Sparrowcall did the same. When her mentor mentioned wanting to speak to her, she felt her ears grow hot all over again and she ducked her head. Had she done something wrong? It's probably about me stealing Bravepaw's catch, she guessed. She stared at her paws, already looking ashamed before Sparrowcall had even said anything else.

Southwind looked sympathetically toward Icepaw. "Come on, Jaywing," he said to the gray tom lightly. "Don't you remember what it was like to be an apprentice? Besides, she's nearly a warrior." Icepaw's words wouldn't have been his own, but he knew she was just trying to say what she thought was best. Still, he didn't want to be too hostile towards the loner, as he hadn't even crossed their border and seemed pretty harmless.

"She's not wrong," Darkflower defended the apprentice, her narrowed eyes shooting from Beau to Jaywing. "Why don't you stop being such a rude little snake-tongue all the time?"

"Don't worry about before," Timberfoot said to his apprentice at last when they were alone. "Everyone's just a bit too sensitive today. I think the whole Clan woke up on the wrong side of the nest," he joked, trying to ignore his own hurt feelings from Foxcloud's words earlier. "Focus--do you scent any prey?"

The apprentice came across the squirrel who appeared to be distracted by a nut in its small paws and he crouched down before making his way towards it. Once he was close enough, he pounced and caught the squirrel underneath his paws which caused it to drop its nut. He quickly nipped its neck before straightening up, he turned and saw his mentor walking in his direction so he decided to walk towards her.

SwiftStep felt slightly confused when the loner stared at her but went on "Yes, this land belongs to PineClan which is marked by this border" She started, wondering if the tom hadn't even noticed the smell of the border before she added "We are very protective of our territory which is why my clanmates were acting hostile despite the fact you haven't crossed" She seemed to chose to ignore her clanmates talking.

She looked as the tom left the patrol and Stormeyes was still talking with Leafwillow ' I hope they understand to hunt too' she thought looking at them, then get way toward the scent she was found. She walked forward carefully, making sure not to bring any voices as she followed the scent, her ears perked when a fluffy tail showed to her sight, getting down she started to stalk a squirrel eating something under a tree, but there were birds around too so she needed to be extra careful as the birds could even warm the squirrel. She did have luck on her side too as some of the bird's little bit chased the squirrel to go to her way and when that happened she attacked, using her body to take the long-haired animal down and quickly bite it to death.

She made a wide smile when noticed the annoyance withing the older warriors face, it made her little bit happy but curious too, in other had she didn't really care what's going to happen to the group of furball who is going to check this rogue which brought some trouble to the clan. She made a glare toward her brother when he stooks at the Rabbitfur's side instead of his own sister, but she didn't think that for a long, making her way to follow the Fogsprint.

He buried the birds he was caught, looking toward the warrior and her apprentice Sunpaw, wondering what she needed to speak with her as far he knew Sunpaw didn't do anything wrong, just being too energetic nothing more. Flicking his tail he looked at Bravepaw, who asked the warrior a question "I think she said we to hunt more..." he told the younger tom "just wondering what that's about" he meowed silently.

She didn't say anything when the Lionstar praising her, which felt a little awkward to her after the glares she was had during the days when the leader was resting at his den. Her eyes turned to Mudspalsh once more "Hm, I hope most of the others could be that self-imposed to get out for a hunt that you or your brothers are" she meowed to them with a sigh "sometimes I feel like a mother who needs to ask for someones to do thinks which could be common in sense to anyone to do" she meowed silently.

She licked her paw and started drawing it over her head to continue her grooming. “So despite having your tail treated like prey and losing a race, how has your morning been so far? Did anything interesting happen while you were out?” The warrior asked, pausing her grooming to look over at the darker tom. It wasn’t much but small talk was better than nothing sometimes.

He buried it there, wondering when his Clanmates would be back. He debated for a moment whether to sit and wait for them to return, since he already had almost too much to carry, but decided against it. The tom turned tail, following Lightningwing's scent in her direction. He watched her make her catch, eyes shining with approval. He decided not to bother her, moving back into the pines to find more prey.

S t o r m e y e moved up beside Leafwillow. "You don't look like you were too keen on the idea of patrolling," the thin tabby said, glancing curiously at him. "Something wrong?" He didn't know the tom well - or any other cat in the Clan, but he wanted to. He wanted to become close to all of the warriors of his new home, he wanted to build a life here.
When the patrol split up, Stormeye couldn't help but linger near the Twolegplace. He padded along, closer to where the scorched earth marked the ground. He couldn't scent any nearby cats. Deciding not to wait to see if Creekpaw would, by chance, be on a border patrol, the tom headed back into the pines. He padded along the forest floor. He preferred hunting nearer to the peak, enjoying the open wind on his pelt and the clear view of the sky and soaring birds of prey, but he wanted to please his new Clan more than anything. Even here, he was already much higher up on the mountain that he would have been on PineClan's territory. More birds roamed here - and to his delight, he spotted one. A large, fat crow was flapping to and fro on the ground, and he dropped into a crouch. Creeping forward as stealthily as possible, he saw his chance. The wind was in his favor and the bird was distracted, pecking at some bug or seed on the ground. Stormeye leaped, his claws connecting to feathers and pinning the crow to the ground. He killed it and gazed at his prey with pride - the crow was big and fat, it was a worthy catch. He purred in delight as he scraped earth over it.

The young time had died early on in his training, and she'd soon met Whiskerclaw and began trying for kits. Those days were behind her now, and Sunpaw brought the warmth and joy to her life that she thought she'd now never have, since she'd never managed to conceive with her former mate.

R a b b i t f u r stifled a purr at Hawkeye's reassurance - it felt good to know the queen believed in him, especially after what seemed to be doubt from Ivythorn. He glanced back at Birdpaw, he was looking anxious. As the patrol departed, he decided they should, too. The tom didn't lead the way - no, he kept beside Hawkeye, feeling equal to her, despite being a bit younger. They had never trained together, having shared a den for only a night before Hawkeye had become a warrior. Now, though, he felt as if they were on the same level, and he was proud.

A s Lostface bounded off, Blossomcloud sighed to Yewbriar. "Poor thing," she said, shaking her head. "I wish she could see that it doesn't matter if she's got half a face, a whole face, or no face! She's pretty on the inside, and that's what matters...besides, what she does have is beautiful. A few scars show a cat that you've got fight in you." She began purring once more as Lostface arrived with the mouse bile. "Thank you, dear," she purred, lowering her head so that Lostface would be able to get the tick behind her ear. Apprentices' work, but she was grateful that the warrior had stopped to check on them and had no problems with doing it herself.

Clearly, you haven't learned that lesson, either."

" G o o d luck," Featherpaw meowed, tapping her sister's flank with her tail as she padded past. She headed further into the pines, giving Rainpaw some space, and then sighed. She could feel her sister's irritation and unhappiness, and hoped that soon her bad day would turn around. Shaking her head, as if to clear the bad thoughts, the apprentice opened her jaws, scenting the forest. Not a squirrel, but a vole - scrabbling around the base of one of the pines. She could see a hole near the base, near the tree's exposed roots, and knew she'd have to be quick. As still and quiet as she could manage, the queen crept towa- SNAP! A twig she hadn't seen in her focus on the prey snapped underneath her paw. The vole was in its burrow in moments, and she hissed, "Mouse-dung!" The queen made a note to tell Rainpaw that'd she'd also lost prey, hoping it would make her feel better; but at the same time, there were mouths to feed back at camp. With another sigh, the queen continued on. Soon, she'd snagged a squirrel - just as she'd hoped - and buried it under pine nettles and underbrush to find later.

Fogspring nodded to Rayfeather as he walked. "You're probably right. But we should still patrol up to where they would get, just in case." That way no part of the border was left unchecked. The grey tom padded on, scenting the border. Nothing seemed amiss here. All the excitement seemed to be over with the loner at the moment. That was probably for the best. He looked to his apprentice then, figuring he should test her. "Marigoldpaw, do you scent anything?" He asked.

Squirrel in her jaws, Puddlespring padded towards Littlepaw. She purred when she saw he had caught more prey. She set down the Squirrel and smiled at him. "Wow! Another great catch! You're becoming quite the hunter, Littlepaw." Between the two squirrels and the mouse, the two of them probably couldn't carry much more back. "Let's head back to camp then, see if the elders and queens have gotten any food. Then hopefully we can get some food in our bellies too!" She said, picking up her catch again to start head back to camp.

Rainpaw sighed. Her day should have been good, she had been able to hunt with Featherpaw after all. That was what she had wanted, but then she had been grumpy and now she was alone again. She crept forward and scented a mouse, and at least she was able to catch that. It wasn't anything huge, but it would fill someone's belly. She lifted it and carried it back towards the place they had split off from so that she could bury it.

A hiss of pain escaped Crowthorn's mouth as the older tom landed on his back and sank his claws in, but he quickly used the same move Flynn had earlier and rolled onto his back, crushing the loner beneath him.

Hawkeye nodded at Birdpaw's words, although she remained alert throughout the entire trek, just in case the loner had gotten farther or there was more than one. "If you need to stop and take a breather, you can," she told the apprentice gently. "I'm sure Rabbitfur and I can handle one loner." She didn't want Birdpaw exhausting himself. As they neared the border, an unfamiliar cat-scent hit her nose along with Crowthorn's, and sure enough she spotted her brother in a tussle with a dark brown tom. "Crowthorn!" she yowled, running over to the two. Crowthorn had just crushed the loner beneath him, but she pushed her brother off of him. The stark black tom was about to jump right back on, but his sister shoved him back even harder before he could. "Crowthorn, stop!"

Sunpaw's eyes shone at Bravepaw's catch. The squirrel she'd caught before didn't seem so impressive now when compared to Bravepaw's rabbit and Starlingpaw's two birds in one swipe, but she wasn't jealous. If anything she was just glad she didn't steal the better of the two catches from Bravepaw. As the two apprentices left her alone with her mentor, she glanced up at her and was about to apologize for stealing the spotlight earlier, but was cut off by Sparrowcall's thanks. Surprised, she listened quietly to the warrior's words, and realized that this wasn't at all about anything bad she'd done. She felt happiness bubble up inside of her and spill over in the form of a wide smile, and she nodded to her mentor. "Of course! You're the best mentor I could have and I want others to know that too. I didn't mean it in a mean way before, but I think Bravepaw took it that way..." She lowered her voice so that if the others were around, they couldn't hear. "I didn't mean to steal his catch earlier either, I just got excited. I hope he's not mad at me now."

Gingerleaf returned to camp with a mouthful of herbs, and blinked in surprise when she saw Petalstar talking with an unfamiliar kit. I wonder what that's about. She went to her den to drop off the herbs before padding back outside, close enough to hear what was going on but not too close. She was curious, but she didn't want to interrupt anything.

Darkflower bristled at Jaywing's words. She was older than him; how dare he talk to her like that? "I'll learn it when you do," she shot back. "You're still the same fox-dung-spouting cat that you were when you were six moons old."

"Break it up, you two," Kestrelclaw said as he shoved his way in between Darkflower and Jaywing, exasperation evident in his voice. "We're not here to fight, outsiders or each other. You both are warriors and you should start acting like it."

Southwind rolled his eyes at his sister's argument with Jaywing. "Those two never left the apprentices' den," he sighed quietly.

"Well, they're the only kin each other has, so I understand why," Timberfoot murmured. He supposed he was lucky to have all three of his littermates alive and kicking, although he never thought of them as being that close. Southwind was only ever interested in hanging around she-cats and Darkflower wasn't interested in anybody, which left Kestrelclaw as the only really familial one. Snapping back to reality, he nodded at his apprentice. "Good. Do you want to try finding the rabbit? I can go after the shrew." He thought it would be best for his apprentice to practice tracking prey when its scent wasn't that strong. If he found the rabbit, it would be that much more rewarding, and helpful during leaf-bare when prey-scents were faint more often than not.
