Driftpelt stepped forward and touched his nose with Kestrelclaw's. "With this life I give you love. Us it well to love your clan as if they're your own kin." He stepped back.

Kestrelclaw half-expected this life to be as ferocious and overwhelming as the last two, but much to his relief, it felt warm and soothing. Or, at least, it did at first. It flowed through his body and spirit like a river, calm and gentle at first, but as he thought of the cats that he held dear to him, the feeling began to grow stronger and stronger, until it was nearly unbearable. He thought of Ivycloud, his beloved mate; Sootfall, his first apprentice; Moonstar, his great leader; Addertooth and Redflower, his caring parents; and Petalfur, his harsh, yet somehow sweet mentor who had also been his first love. More and more cats tumbled into his mind, one after another, until he finally realized that he was not thinking of countless individual cats but thinking of his entire Clan, who was, in a sense, one cat. One life. Yes, because he loved his entire Clan more than anything else in the world.
