Whiteleg

( ♀ ) - ( Saluki Whippet Cross ) - ( Elder ) - ( Windpack ) - ( 156 moons old ) - ( No romance ) - ( Tags: Songbreeze )

Whiteleg, grumbled to herself as she limped away from the group of dogs, she hadn't heard Songbreeze. "Those pups better be here by night-fall to give me some bedding." She yawned as she sat down, watching the camp.

Dunlinfur
27 Moons
Aidi
WindPack
Medicine Dog
With Songbreeze

"You got it." Dunlinfur barked resolutely, with optimism.
In their haste to solve the problem at hand, Whiteleg had gotten a bit forgotten, but the elder did not seem to mind in the slightest. In fact, she did not even seem to notice. That suited Dunlinfur just fine. He did not want to be rude, of course, but it was easier to focus on one thing at a time. As such, he quickly picked up on Songbreeze's hesitation at taking charge. It did make sense. Songbreeze had barely moved out of the apprentice den, and here she was, telling the medicine dog what to do. Yet, Songbreeze's logic was sound.
"I agree. Better when we can use our eyes with our ears and noses."
Dunlinfur leaned forward to offer the she-dog a reassuring nuzzle under the chin.
"I trust you to have my back, Songbreeze. Lead the way."

Patchpaw
male dog - dalmatian/Saluki mix - crush: open - mentor: Cloudtuft - tags: open

He didn't really listen to what the elder said to them, not like he really cared anyway, he was just excited to get out by himself or with his sister who was following him. He half runs deeper into the forest, looking up to the darkening sky, then focused to get some scent of the preys nearby.

Spottedpaw
female dog - dalmatian/ Saluki mix - crush: open - mentor: Berrybounce - tags: open

She followed after her brother stopping as he stopped, looking around the forest, wondering if there even is some preys any longer or could they be already on their dens to preparing for night sleeps.

Songbreeze smiled at Dunlinfur, feeling slightly more confident about being the leader in this particular mission. Well, let's find their trail, and head on west. She began to walk westwardly of camp, keeping her ears pricked and nose lowered near the ground. The setting sun was blazing against the horizon, causing the young moor-runner's eyes to water. "As far as I know, they were heading west, so I guess maybe we should walk relatively in that direction until we catch their scent." Oh, I do hope they're all right, that way I can kill them myself for scaring me this badly, she thought, feeling her heart throbbing in her chest, as if in anticipation of what was to come.

Aidi
WindPack
Medicine Dog
With Songbreeze

Dunlinfur followed Songbreeze's lead, padding along at her side and delicately sniffing the air for signs of the missing packmates. He squinted his eyes against the flaming sky as the sun sank lower and lower, filling him a sense of urgency to avoid a search in the dark. Songbreeze at least knew what direction they had gone off in. That knowledge was already huge help in narrowing down places to look.
"That's a great start." he agreed, picking up the pace to an easy trot. "We should hurry. We can always double back if we can't find the trail."
With camp growing distant behind him, Dunlinfur lowered his head and put his nose to the ground. His was not the sharpest of noses in WindPack, but after moons of searching for herbs, he at least knew a thing or two about tracking. The only difference was the specific scent he was after. Today herbs were not his concern.

"Yes, that's what I was thinking. Here!" she yelled suddenly, stopping in her tracks to inspect the scent. She was right, it was Cloudtuft's. She went this way, Songbreeze thought hopefully, thankful that she had been correct in her estimate of her fellow's moor-runner's direction. She sniffed around the spot, and soon deduced what direction they were going in. "This way," she said. It was west, with a tad bit of north, which she was thankful for; it meant the sun was no longer directly in front of them. Song started at a run, but not that fast, as she didn't know what speed Dunlinfur was capable of. She could run almost across Windpack territory without slowing, but it always wore her out in the end.

Dunlinfur
27 Moons
Aidi
WindPack
Medicine Dog
With Songbreeze

Dunlinfur hurried to the spot Songbreeze indicated and sniffed at the ground. She was right, of course, he could smell that Cloudtuft had been through here at some point earlier in the day, but not terribly recently. That was all the Medicine Dog had time for, because his companion was already leading the way along the trail.
"Right behind you!" he barked as he followed the much swifter young warrior.
Being an Aidi had its benefits. They are a clever, athletic breed that can do most things quite well, including covering ground, but Dunlinfur simply could never compare to the lean, slender builds of the sighthounds that made up the bulk of WindPack's members. If Songbreeze wanted to, she could fairly easily outpace him, but Dunlinfur kept up well at her more conservative pace, and he had the endurance to run as long as he needed to in order to reach their destination. His paws pounded across the moor as he traveled a few dog-lengths behind Songbreeze, and he could not help but admire the elegance with which she effortlessly glided across the terrain like a falling star. Moor-runners were really a sight to behold, a marvel of specialization that no other pack could hope to compete with.
As the pair traveled, the scent trail slowly grew stronger, and soon, Dunlinfur could not help but notice a troubling observation. They were rather quickly running out of territory, and judging by the scent trail, Cloudtuft probably was not anywhere within WindPack borders.
"Hold up, Songbreeze!" he barked, mostly to get her attention in case she accidentally ran ahead without him, which would have been easy for her to do. "Smell that? I think we might have to trespass."
He had slowed to a lope, still moving, but more slowly so as to make communication easier. Dunlinfur's mouth hung open as he panted lightly from the exertion, and with the heavier breathing he was doing, it was easy to scent the markers left diligently along the shared border between WindPack and Shadowpack. They would not take kindly to outsiders. Dunlinfur was optimistic that ShadowPack would not harm a search party that included a Medicine Dog, but he was less optimistic that ShadowPack had nothing to do with his packmate's disappearance in the first place.
"This... could get sticky... I don't think ShadowPack will try anything too crazy if I'm with you, but we should be quick. Ready?"
Dunlinfur already doubted Songbreeze would be daunted enough to call off the search. He did not like the circumstances, but he also knew something had to be done. If ShadowPack gave them any trouble, he would simply insist he was here to collect any wounded packmates and leave promptly. That would have to be good enough for them. He tilted his head to the rapidly-darkening sky and sent a silent prayer to StarClan to give them strength for what they were about to do.

Song stared worriedly across the border, her tail twitching. Cloudtuft, you idiot, of all borders to cross... She flicked her head back towards Dunlinfur, and with obvious dread on her face, said, "Yeah, I'm ready." Here we go, I guess, then nearly startled herself into laughing. Of the two of us, I was always more disobedient than Cloudtuft, yet here we are, with her being the naughty pup, and me being the worried-sick adult gone to get her. "Okay, yes, I'm ready, sorry," she said, and stepped into Shadowpack territory.

You're next post would be in the Shadowpack thread, as we're now in their territory ;)

Some of her anxiety instantly dissolved as she and her packmates stepped back into WindPack territory. Full of gratitude, she looked to them with a warm, growing smile. "Thank you both for coming for me." Then, she remembered a small detail her relief had made her forget. Right. They're angry with me. Instinctively, she wanted to make them feel less awful/embarrassed, so she added all too quickly, "You were both very brave!"

Songbreeze sighed, but the scolding she had been preparing for (and, admittedly, reciting in her mind,) never came. Perhaps it was because of their similarity in age, or the relief of coming out of Shadowpack in one piece, but she thought it was most likely that she had a soft spot for trouble (though Song always knew when she was signing up for it. She couldn't remember a time she'd done something naughty, or worse, against the code without full knowledge that it was wrong). Well, some sorts of trouble. Maybe it was just the fact that she had been in Cloudtuft's place, the guilty (or, in Song's place, not-so-guilty) culprit, rather than the scolding warrior. "Yes, well... just please never, ever do that again. And, well, you know Stagstar'll still need to hear about this." Songbreeze looked Cloudtuft, and almost permitted a smile, though she hid it well. Song found herself wondering what punishment would greet Cloudtuft back at camp. It was unusual for a warrior to get into this much trouble, and though Songbreeze had heard of dogs who had been forced to become omegas, it seemed unlikely... but then, that was the optimistic, trouble-making side of her. Was that truly possible? And what would happen to Patchpaw? Song found herself realizing that, worse case scenario, Cloudtuft was demoted to an Omega, in order for Patchpaw to continue to be a moor-runner, she would have to apprentice him, which did not at all sound appealing. Song had been overjoyed when Cloudtuft had become Patchpaw's mentor, when she learned that she would remain apprentice-less. Bye bye, sweet joy, she thought, then smiled, because it was highly unlikely for any of that to happen.
