I havent heard of MA or non, but trade down usually refers to trading a high value pet for a lower value pet!

Non is a value measurement, it came from the 4 "Non"-dogs worth a non each. They are the Nonswirl, Nontag, Noncoon and Nonjewel. 1 non = 10-12 MA or 100 2009 rares.
MA is also a value measurement and stands for "Mid-advent", 1 MA is 6-9 2009 rares.

Trade-down is when you trade a higher value pet for a few lower value pets adding up to equal worth, for example if you traded a pet worth 2 MA for 2 pets worth 1 MA, or a pet worth 2.5 non for 5 pets worth .5 non.

A Non is one of 4 pets; non coon, non swirl, non jewel, and non tag. They're 4 dogs from litters from August 2008, aka the first month of the site. They are worth 10-12 MA, or 100-150 rares from 2009.
