pigeonpunk and ghostlad (myself)

What is a lunar shark?

Lunar sharks (lunarctos) are nocturnal creatures
somewhere between sharks, bears, and moths, and are the
sole inhabitants of Aeon, the small island they are native to.

Different types of lunar sharks:

While it is rumoured that they once lived in a
harmonious community, these creatures long ago
split into factions, keeping to their own and slowly
growing apart. Each faction has unique characteristics,
distinctive appearances and markings that show at night,
clearly identifying them.

General rules:

- Do not claim lunar sharks you do not own
- Do not claim the base/lines as your own work
- Do not edit the base of any lunar sharks - this includes standard/still available lines, archived lines and even your own/pre-existing sharkies
- According to CS rules, do not use more than one account to gain lunar sharks (all owned sharks will be confiscated)
- You may not host giveaways for lunar sharks you no longer wish to own - you may give it away to a user of your choice (with their agreement) and post it in trading, or you may donate it to the adoption centre [Loners tab] where we will give it away for you

- Have an archive post
- You can put the lunar sharks you own wherever you please (character storages, TH, CS signatures, offsite, etc...) as long as it links back to this main thread (credit!)

there will be specific rules for expeditions / customs / breedings / trading / shops / discord - make sure the read the appropriate rules before posting

FAQ:

- Can I get a lunar shark for free? Yes, most lunar sharks are free (giveaways, litter-drops, expeditions) but you can also pay for customs/breedings
- How do I get a lunar shark? As listed above, your very own sharkies can be obtained through giveaways on discord, found exceptionally on expeditions, from litterdrops (FCFS and raffles) as well as ordering customs or trading for another user's lunar shark.
- Can I participate in forum games (ex. expeditions) without owning a lunar shark? Unfortunately, you must have a lunar shark to send on an expedition. However, if you do not own one, you can make an arrangement with another owner to temporarily borrow one of theirs until you get your own.

Note: do not worry if you do not own your own lunar shark, a lot of raffles/FCFS litters or at least parts of them will be geared towards non-owners to make sure everyone has the chance of having their own!

- If my lunar shark has been assigned a faction can I change it? If you own the required items, you can. You'll have to post an image application form.
- Can I make my own faction/markings for my lunar shark? Yes, making your own factions/markings is allowed, there will be items to be able to apply your own markings onto official designs in the future. However, these factions will not be considered a part of a canon faction and will not be able to participate in faction specific forum games!
- Can I make my own lunar shark? Yes.. and no.

YOU MAY:
- design your own lunar shark for your own personal use/oc
- design your own lunar shark to show an artist exactly what you're looking for in a custom
- design unofficial lunar sharks for others for their personal use however you may not sell them/request payment
- make art of your official lunar shark/other people's luna sharks (for free or requesting payment)

> However, lunar sharks as a UMA are closed!

YOU MAY NOT:
- use an unofficial lunar shark (one without an id) to participate in forum games like expeditions
- trade unofficial designs for official designs (or any other form of payment as mentioned above)
- post unofficial designs in any forms (expeditions, adding items, archives, etc...)

Lunar sharks have not always been creatures of the ground.
Moving like bears on land and sharks in the water, these swift creatures once also dominated the skies.
Equipped with moth-like wings, they worshipped the moon and the divine being Epoch that they
associate to it, nestling their capital in the centre of the mountain range where they could feel
closest to the sky.

"They flew too close to the moon"

Just over a century ago, Epoch declared that the lunar
sharks were no longer worthy of the moon. On a day that
would become know as "the night the wings shattered",
the entire population lost their ability to fly - and while
the feeling of the wind in their fur has long since faded
from memory, the bitterness has never been forgotten.

Once a bright and united community, the lunar sharks
split into factions, some feeling bitter, hopeless, abandoned,
while some simply made the best of what they had - still
worshipping a god who had taken everything from them.

- Lunar sharks have not been able to completely
erase their connection to the moon, and are still
instinctively attracted to bright lights
- Lunar sharks have webbed feet
- Lunar sharks can fish with their bare (bear) paws
- As the species lost their wings, they evolved to
become more and more bear-like
- Lunar sharks have thumbs
- Instead of hibernating, they spend the cold
months in an edible cocoon that sustains them
for the season

Looking to adopt a lunar shark? Some will be available on this forum when litters drop!

Litters will often be a mix of First Come First Serve (FCFS) and raffles, so that even if you miss out on the FCFS you still have a chance to get a shark (some litters may be raffle only however). It is important, however that you cannot adopt more than one shark per litter - if you get a FCFS, you may not enter the raffle! So choose wisely...

- please do not edit any first come first serve posts if the one you wanted was taken. Please quote your original form with the new ID you would like to get, so that we can make sure to get to the first people who posted for each shark. Please make sure to also put the right ID - you will win the shark you put in your form, not the one you meant to put!
- You may enter for as many raffled sharks as you would like (you may also just put all in the raffle form) - however you can only win one and will not get to pick.
- Entering for one shark vs all sharks in the raffle does not give you extra entries! You are encouraged to only apply for the ones you'd really like to own!
- You must have an archive to participate in litter drops!

Code drops will happen when FCFS close and shortly after raffle results drop. You may then add your new sharks to your own archive
