Lillybear
A Brief Introduction
You've probably already read my adoption
form for Shattered, but if not, then hello!
I'm Lillybear, but you can call me Lil, Lilly,
or Lil' Bear. [I'm open to a lot of nicknames!]
I love animals and animal characters, so you
could imagine my excitement when I saw this
design. But enough about me, let's talk about
this sweet little thing!
What do I think of the PoL?
I love that there's agencies likes these
where you can adopt unused, unloved,
and unwanted characters. I wish I could
make one, but it would take up a lot of
my time. I've never adopted from here
before, but I'm already having fun just
making my form. I hope you enjoy it
and I hope you see me fit to be the
owner of this sweet little thing!

Why do you want this character?
Honestly, when I first came across this guy,
I didn't think I was going to try out for him.
But every time I came across him, I got more
and more drawn in, until I just couldn't help
myself anymore, and even still, it seems like
I fall more in love with him every day. I really
like his design, [more about this below], and I
love the look on his face. It tells you that this
character has been through something - maybe
something scary, maybe something astonishing,
you never know. You get to decide.
Where will you use it, and what will you use it for?
I've already had so much fun making art of him and his
parents, and I know that I'd be making more. He'll also
earn a spot on my character website. I don't have a ton
of special characters, but ever since I found out about
you guys, I've been finding lots chances to fill my empty
website. This guy has inspired me to start creating more
lion characters. I don't really have any big lion characters.

When I first saw this character,
my mind immediately went to lions and
the Lion King. He reminded me of Simba
right away, too. He had the same, small
body, and the same curious look on his
face. Yes, I do know his tail isn't a lion
tail. But to be honest, I didn't realize
that his tail wasn't a lion tail when I
first saw him. His tail might stay the
same, but in all my drawings of him
he has a lion tail, so his tail might
end up as a lion tail as a small
design change.
One thing that really stood out to me
about this character is how much he looks
like a real lion. He has all natural colors,
and markings that could possibly be found
in a real lion. Sadly, nowadays there aren't
very many characters like these, because
everyone is interested in bright neon colors
and funky designs. So kudos to booklover789!
Name
Rangi
Name Meaning
"Rangi" is Swahili for Color / Colors / Paint.
[This is the same language used in the Lion King's
character's names. Simba means lion in Swahili.]
Why Rangi?
When I read the rules to adopt and learned
that the marks under his eyes were paint, I
knew I could come up with a creative name
meaning something along the lines of paint.

Personality
Being young, there are many things that Rangi
doesn't understand. But unlike most cubs, Rangi
isn't playful, adventurous, or mischievous. He is
more interested in the world around him, and can
often be found on his own, playing gently with a
butterfly, or starting up at the sky at the birds. He
has a gentle, kind personality. Most would assume
this to be good, right? A careful, respectful, and a
soft personality couldn't get any better, right? Well,
this would be, if Rangi wasn't the heir to the pride.
Rangi is also extremely shy, and gets picked on by
other cubs because of this a lot. He can get very
insecure and unsure of himself because of this.
Rangi is not brave. He's quite a bit of a scaredy cat,
and he doesn't like anything that's scary, or being left
alone, or the dark. But one thing that conquers his fears
is fireflies. He loves to chase and play with fireflies, and
they bright up his scary, gloomy night.
Likes
Rangi has always been fascinated by winged
creatures, like birds and butterflies. He would
love to be able to fly, and he'd love to be able
to feel what it's like to be up in the air and to
be able to glide peacefully around, feeling the
breeze in his whiskers.
Rangi loves to make drawings in the sand
with his claw or a twig. He loves to make
different squiggles and shapes. He loves to
express his creativity with every little little
line. Even though all he makes is squiggles,
he feels proud of each one - until Jua sees
them and erases them by kicking the sand
up into the air with his large paw.
Fireflies and flowers.
Dislikes
As explained below, Rangi doesn't
like having to wear paint under his
eyes. I won't really talk much about
this right here, because I've already
explained about the paint below.
Of course, as I'm sure this has already
been made clear, Rangi hates it when
Jua gets mad at him and what he does.
History
Rangi's father, Jua, [Jua means "Sun" in Swahili],
is the king of his own pride. He is very dedicated
to his job, but he can sometimes end up enjoying
it too much. Sometimes, more often than not, he'll
will enjoy telling others what to do. More about Jua
is below. Because I'd like to provide enough history
to convince you to let me take this cutie home, I've
written some stories of Rangi's life.
"Stalking," Jua said, his voice low, "is a key element of hunting.
You must get as close as you can to your pray before you reveal
yourself." He shifted his body and tilted his head just high enough
to see above the tall, golden savanna grass. Antelope were grazing
nearby, clueless of the king and his son's presence. "You mustn't go
about making noise," He said. "They might not be as superior as us
lions, but they have keen ears. They can hear even the slightest of
sounds." Rangi hadn't been paying as much attention as he'd like to
have been, but the last few sentences caught his ear. He hated when
Jua bragged about lions being the most superior species. It made him
feel odd, as if he should be guilty. But all he could do was nod. He did
not dare express his opinion, or even talk. Jua nodded back. Quickly,
he turned back to the antelope. "You have to keep your eyes on your
prey at all times. At any point they could notice you or catch a whiff
of your scent." Rangi nodded again, chancing a look at the antelope.
"You must keep yourself low to the ground, and must only raise your
head enough to see them." Jua positioned himself so he was no longer
lying, but so that he was crouching. "With every step you must take
caution. Watch me, and watch how I get close." Rangi only nodded
in response. He watched his father for a moment, until a glint of
color caught his eye. A light pink butterfly was hovering near his
side. He gasped in delight. But as soon as he did he knew it was a
mistake. But it was too late. The antelope didn't have to look up
to know he was there. They had taken off, and right as Jua was
about to, as he'd say, "reveal himself". This happened often, as
Rangi was easily distracted. But that didn't stop him from feeling
horrible each time it happened. Jua whipped his head around, his
dark eyes glaring deep into Rangi's. Rangi cowered back, shaking.
Jua drew near. He hovered above him. He lifted his paw, and he
swooped it under his eye. Rangi didn't have to ask to know what
it meant. He turned and ran, fighting back tears, to get the paint.
Rangi awoke with a tiny, quiet yawn. He blinked, taking in morning's
sunlight. It also took him a moment to realize where he was, and once
he did, he let out a tiny sigh. It was like this every morning - he'd have
a wonderful dream, only to wake up to find he had just awaken in the
same cave he'd slept in all of his life next to all of the other lions he'd
lived with all of his life. And then he'd sigh. He wished his dream were
real. But they weren't, and he was sure they'd never be. But there was
one thing that he looked forward to every morning - some time alone
with his thoughts. So he crept out of the cave, which was something
he'd perfected doing, as he had done it so many times already. He
even enjoyed it a little, making it a dance. But his smile - and the
rest of his body - froze every time a lion stirred. Usually, if the lion
were to wake up, he'd break into a run so he wouldn't get caught.
But if the lion was Jua, he'd stay frozen and hang his head. He'd
even try to escape his mother - but not Jua. He'd never dare mess
with the king. Luckily, this morning, no one even stirred at all, so
Rangi got out without a hitch. Once the cave was out of sight, he
relaxed and found one of his favorite spots - a little and strangely
comfortable rock that lied the shade of his favorite tree - a tree
that was older than he could ever image. But his favorite part
about the tree was how it still provided even though it had lived
so many years of providing. It provided shelter and food for birds,
squirrels, and insects, it provided shade to Rangi. He figured all of
the birds, squirrels, and insects that visited the tree could learn a lot
from it. "And Jua could learn a lot, too," he mumbled under his breath.
Then he gasped. Had he really said that - and out loud? He had never said
such a thing. He stood to his paws. He felt guilty for saying what he had,
but he also felt something else. Bravery. Which was something he defiantly
wasn't. He looked up at his favorite tree. Had the tree done it? Had the tree
once again provided him with something? He smiled, and lied back down on
the rock. "I guess I could learn a lot from trees, too." He chucked a little.
Why the paint? *
Jua has forced Rangi to wear the
paint whenever he thinks that he's
"forgotten who he is", which, in a
simpler explanation, means that Jua
has made Rangi wear the paint under
his eyes whenever he is displeased with
his performances, or his un-kinglike antics,
to remind him that he is a powerful being
with hard responsibilities. Rangi hates having
to wear the paint. It seems that every day he
has to live with the punishment. He feels like
Jua is telling him he needs to grow up and rule
over the world as quickly as possible, which is
something that he doesn't want to do.
- * I'd like to mention that I got permission from booklover789
to have this be the story of why he wears his paint instead
of having them "splotches of paint he likes to wear on occasion."
- Family
Lines by Nynecho, colored in by Lillybear.
These are Rangi's parents, Jua and Taji.
[Taji, Rangi's mother, means Crown in Swahili.]
Lines by Neara, colored in by Lillybear.
Jua, Rangi's father,
has a proud, strong personality. He takes
his responsibility as king very seriously, maybe
a little too seriously. He tries his best to teach
Rangi into following in his pawprints, and easily
gets displeased with his performances. He tries
his hardest to be kind with him, but sometimes
his anger takes a hold of himself. Rangi, being
his sensitive self, can actually get scared of his
father in times likes this. He'll retreat to a hiding
spot, or to his mother, for comfort and reassurance.
Lines by Teke., colored in by Lillybear.
Taji, Rangi's mother,
is the opposite of Jua. She's caring and motherly,
and hates how her little cub comes running to her
in tears after lessons with his father. She often gets
annoyed with Jua's constant antics, She believes that
Rangi would make a wonderful king just they way he is.
Unfortunately, this often leads into fights between the two.
Rangi can't stand to watch his mom and dad fight. He'll cower
away whenever this happens, fearing of what might happen in
the end. Unfortunately, the fights never end well, and each one
ends tearing the two farther apart. Rangi envies other families,
and will watch them from afar, as they laugh and play together,
which is something Rangi's sure his family will never do anymore.
