Chapter one
After her mother’s death, probably caused by some Mountain lions, Adene, despite only being three months old, decided to go to where her mother had told her to go, to Weapon Creek. She has now been walking for two days. Hungry, alone and tired, and even though the three scars on her back had healed, they left three marks, which fur didn’t grow on. She decided to take a rest underneath a plum blossom. She then saw a rabbit.
She then licked her lips and got ready to pounce. However, something broke her concentration. A blast from a gun, hearing this she hid behind a bush. And looked out, she saw a massive dog, a brindle Dalmatian standing just in front of her holding the chicken in its massive jaws, it then opened its jaws and dropped the rabbit in front of her, all covered in blood with staring eyes. Then, the brindle Dalmatian said something.
“You two, hurry! The hunter is coming, and if he or his dogs catch us we’re dead!” It said, before picking the rabbit back up. Fearing she might be spotted, Adene backed into the bush further. Luckily, the brindle Dalmatian didn’t spot her. Then, two more dogs, one a Collie cross, about Adene’s age, and a black and tan Great Dane, also Adene’s age.
“Teresa,” The Collie cross said, dropping the small chick she had, “Those hunting dogs are getting closer, and Daiki’s getting tired.” She said, looking over to the brown Great Dane, who was panting heavily.
“No, no I’m just fine. I can keep going.” He said, panting heavily.
“You’re not fine. Look, hide in the bushes and we’ll lead them away.” The Collie cross told him.
Adene froze. If they found her, would she end up like the rabbit? Or would they help her? “Stop thinking like this Adene,” She told herself. “Just go out and ask them if they’ll help you.”
So, with that, Adene burst out of the bushes and bumped into the Dalmatian then blurted out. “Please let me help you, I’ll even be a distraction!” Even though her eyes were closed, Adene knew they were all staring at her. “Y-you all have to hurry. I’ll distract them.” She said, opening her eyes and heading to the sound of the gunshot.
“Kid stop!” The brindle Dalmatian yelled.
“Come back!” The Great Dane shouted.
“You don’t have a chance against them!” The Collie cross yelled after her.
But Adene didn’t stop, and she didn’t go back, but she did know that she didn’t have a chance against them. However, despite that, she kept going, until she saw a tall, fawn Great Dane staring at her, cropped ears and all, teeth bared and running strait at her. She flinched for a second, but soon got over it.
“C’mere!” She yelled, “Let’s play!” Once it was close enough, she jumped and bit it on the forehead. “Aaagh!” The Great Dane yelled, “Bo, Bo! Help!” He yelled.
Then, in the distance, a black Great Dane with a white mark on his chest appeared. “Hibiki, what is it?” He asked his distressed friend.
“I ran into a bus stop, what do you think it is! It’s this pup! She won’t let go!” The other Great Dane said shaking his head, trying to get Adene off.
“Ram your head into a tree! Then she’ll let go!” The white mark said.
With that, ‘Hibiki’ ran to a tree and smashed his head into it. Causing Adene a mass amount of pain, so much that she had to let go. And then, everything went black.
Chapter Two
*Eiji: Two protectors
When she awoke, Adene found herself inside a house on the lap of a human! At first she panicked causing her to fall off of the lap and onto the floor. Looking around, she saw a door and ran towards it if she could go outside she could escape, and find the three dogs she had met. She was but a metre away from the door when something picked her up and closed the door. She struggled and tried to bite the human, only to bite something else, something metal, and it tasted horrible. So she let go.
“Heh thought you wouldn’t like you’re new collar. Hey Illena! The new hunting dog doesn’t like its chain collar!” The human holding her shouted. She looked up.
The human she saw was a boy, probably thirteen with short, brown hair and hazel eyes. She stared at him for a while before she heard the voice of a girl from the next room.
“Impossible! It suits the colour of her eyes. And the Eiji brothers chose it for her! And they’re never wrong.” She yelled from the room from which Adene had just run away from.
The girl then continued, “Anyway, now that her names on it she’ll have to wear it.” The boy brought her back in and said, “I still think that Blaze is a stupid name.”
“I think it’s a great name, Grandpa Jones chose it for her.” The girl replied in a matter-of-factly way.
Then, some barking was then heard from outside, along with a roar and some gunshots. The girl then looked worriedly out the window she was sitting next to.
“Another Puma,” The girl said, “Amazing eh? Even Grandpa Jones gets up to protect our cabin.”
Silence then filled the cabin. The only noise coming from outside was barking yelping, the occasional roar and some gunshots. Until a snapping noise sounded and a loud yelp was heard, another gunshot was fired and then all was silent.
Then, Adene’s legs started to shake; she then uttered a low growl she felt her heart beating faster.
“What’s wrong with me?” She thought, “I can’t stop shaking.” Her chain collar was shaking along with her; the boy must have heard her because he looked down at her and shook his head.
The girl then looked over, “Well, at least we know that she’s going to be a good hunter.” She said, smiling. Then, seeing his chance, the boy decided to change the subject.
“Maybe we should put her with the Eiji Brothers; they are the ones that brought her here after all.” He said looking at two dogs sitting beside the fireplace, one of them had a bandage over his head. It was the two dogs in the woods! She must have bit too hard on his head.
“I’ll have to apologise.” She thought, and jumped out of the boy’s grasp and cautiously walked towards the two dogs.
“U-um Sir? I’m sorry I bit you so hard.” She looked up. The dog with the bandage was staring blankly at the flickering fire.
“I-I’d like to be your friend. W-what’s your name? I’m Adene.” There was no reply. So she looked to her right where the white mark was lying.
He too was staring at the fire so, after looking at both of them, she lay down between them put her head on her paws and stared at the fire, after a few minutes she fell asleep.
*******
Note from Me: Ume is a Japanese name it’s pronounced You-may.
“Adene. Adene.”
Adene heard a voice. It was whispering. “Adene, Adene.” She recognised this voice, the voice of someone she knew. She just couldn’t remember who.
Adene opened her eyes. She saw a house, no, a barn house. Her barn house, the barn house she was born in. She looked up. She saw a black Labrador standing above her. “Aunt Poppy.” She thought. Looking into her ‘aunts’ kind eyes. “Come on Adene, your father is going off on his biggest hunt yet. You don’t want to miss seeing him off, do you?” Adene yawned and stood up, then made her way to the barn doors. “I guess not.” Aunt Poppy said, following her.
Stepping outside, Adene felt the soft, warm breeze blow on her fur. She heard the birds singing in the trees. Adene then heard her mother calling. “Adene, hurry, your father is about to leave!” She shouted to them. Adene ran to her mother, a white Canaan Dog who had her brother and sister standing beside her, play-fighting. “Come on, Adene! This is Dad’s biggest hunt yet!” Her sister yelled lying on top of her brother’s head. “Get off, Anila!” Her brother shouted, pushing her off. Then, their mother looked down and said, “Stop bickering you two.” She said, picking Anila up by her scruff, and putting her down next to Adene. “Why can’t you be mellower, like your sister?” Adene’s mother said looking at her.
For that one moment, Adene saw a small glimmer in her mother’s eye. She knew what it meant. It meant that her mother was worried.
She then heard barking coming from her right she looked around and saw a large group of hunting dogs. “Father!” She shouted, running towards the German shepherd with brown a body, he also has black stripes all around his body and black paws. “Father, father, father!” She jumped up to him. He laughed and said, “Hello Adene.” Then walked over to her mother and Aunty Poppy, she saw him say something to Aunty Poppy and she then took Anila, Adene and Arlen (Adene’s brother) to a tree not too far away.
“Aunt Poppy,” Arlen said, “What’s Dad saying to Mum?” Aunt Poppy took no notice. “Aunt Poppy!” Alina moaned, “What’s he saying to mum she looks upset!” Aunt Poppy ignored her.
Two of the other hunting dogs, one was carrying a pup walked over to the four of them, followed by the farmer. The farmer was carrying his gun. The dog that was carrying the pup got to them first looked at Aunt Poppy then to the three pups. He frowned with eyes full of worry. He then put down the pup next to the others. The pups knew the older dog, it was Zero their Father’s best friend; he was an Akita inu and was tan coloured with a white underbelly. He wore a black bandana with white stars on it. The pup he was carrying was called Ray and he is black and white. The mother of Ray is a black Shiba inu which explains where he gets his colouring from.
The other dog was called Mel, and he was a Golden Retriever. When he was hunting with other dogs (pRobertably the parents of Ume), the Farmer found Mel in the mountains as a pup. He was amazed to watch Mel catch and kill a bird in mid air and then eat it. So he brought him home, when Caden, Ume and Zero were first introduced to him, Mel immediately attacked them, thinking they were enemy dogs. The farmer saw this as a sign that he was going to grow up to be a good hunting dog, and trained him in the harshest of ways. Mel knew that if he endured all this and got stronger, he could beat Caden.
However, Mel didn’t know that Caden was being taught the same way. So when he challenged him to a fight over who should be the mate of Ume (they were 2 years old at that time) he thought that he would win. But Caden focused on his weak points and defeated him with one blow. They have been on a neutral status since. He now has a mate called Glenda and she is a Brown Labrador.
“Come on boys.” The farmer said to Zero and Mel, “Let’s take these four with us to their first hunt.”
Anila’s eyes lit up at the sound of this and started jumping and barking. After all, she was the most reckless one, and wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps. She was also had a violent streak in her and wasn’t afraid to challenge anything which was a good thing at times, but was also a bad thing too. The way humans can tell her apart from her siblings is that she has a white muzzle, paws and a brown body while she has black stripes like a tiger’s. The white colouring she, her brother and her sister inherited from their mother. The stripes they inherited from their father.
Arlen hesitated. He was more cautious than Alina and, unlike her, went by the phrase ‘look before you leap’. However, once his mind’s made up, you have a slim chance of making him change it. He was also naive, and sometimes didn’t get the full picture. The main difference between him and his sisters is because he is a boy; also he has a white spot around his eye and a black underbelly while the rest of him is brown. His tail is more curled than Adene’s.
Adene, however, was horrified. She didn’t enjoy the sight of blood, but she, like her sister, was determined to follow in her father’s footsteps. She was only slightly naive and caught onto things quickly. She is the polar opposite of Anila which meant that she was rarely violent. Most of her fur is white while her paws are brown she also has black tiger markings. Her tail is only slightly curled.
Ray didn’t look very excited. He licked one of his white legs and looked up at his father. Even though his father was tan, he was black and white. He also had one white spot above each of his red eyes. He had a black back, top of head, ears, black tail and the rest of him is white. He also looks up to Mel, because he said if he doesn’t have a son, he will teach Ray to be a hunting dog.
The farmer bent down and picked up Arlen and Adene and walked to his truck, while Zero, Mel, Ray, Anila and Aunt Poppy followed. Ray was walking close to Alina and Mel.
“Aunt Poppy,” Adene asked, “Are we going hunting?” Aunt Poppy looked up at her. “Yes, but you’re not actually going to hunt. You’re just going to watch.” “Oh what a relief.” Came a voice from Adene’s left. She saw her mother and father walking alongside each other. Her mother didn’t look upset now, she was smiling. But then, Adene felt tired, she yawned for no reason. “What’s wrong with me?” She thought, “I just got up, I can’t be tired.” But no matter how much she tried to stop herself, she still fell asleep.
*********
When she awoke, Adene saw the fire. Except it was all around her, then she realised. The house was on fire.
She stood up and spun round, looking for a way out. When she looked to her left, she saw the bandaged dog. Knocked out and mouth open. “Sir!? Sir, wake up, the house is on fire!” She yelled over the noise of the crackling fire surrounding them. The dog didn’t move, but he was breathing. “Fine, if you’re not going to move, then I’ll make you.” Adene said to him. And with that she lifted the dog up by his leather collar. She then looked around before finding a window just about big enough for her and the dog to get through. She then said, “Okay whatever happens. Don’t wake up!” She said jumping to the window when she said ‘up’.
When she smashed through the window, Adene closed her eyes in anticipation that she might get cut. When she opened them, she saw the dog with the white mark and accidently landed on him. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I should’ve looked before I jumped!” Adene said to the dog, which she had knocked over.
He looked at her in surprise, “A pup, surviving something like that!” He thought.
When Adene raised her head and stood up, he didn’t see her, he saw a strong dog he only heard about from legend. Caden. Then, realising he was staring at her, he shook some sense into himself and stood up.
“Come on!” He yelled, “We can’t stay here, the fire is spreading! Look!” He said looking at the house. He was right; the fire was spreading onto the branches of the trees hanging over it. Some of the fire had already spread down onto the trunks. “But what about the humans?” Adene shouted over the sound of the fire. “When they got out; I stayed behind to get Hibiki.” He said walking over to her, and then lifted Hibiki onto his back. He then looked at Adene respectably. And said, “Lead the way, fire of a fighter.”
Even though she didn’t entirely understand what he meant, Adene new he meant he wanted her to lead the way. So, she ran in front of him, into the woods, towards the mountains. While running, Bo, the black Great Dane with the white mark, decided to take Adene to her father.
That's all for now!
