The chilly night breeze rustled the leaves of the forest. It was the night of the Solar Eclipse and every single animal watched in stunned silence as a female dragon lifted her fluffy tail, black against the dark night revealing an even darker figure beside it, a baby dragoness, her neon green wings and neon belly lighting up the forest. The whole forest shook as cries from every single animal welcomed the newborn. The cries died down as they all gathered around the two dragons, sniffing it's flank and lifting it's shriveled wings. "What's her name gonna be?" "Why are her wings and belly glowing?" "Her scales make me feel as if I'm falling through a black hole!" Every animal seemed to be bursting with questions and comments. The dragon lifted her head, speaking above the crowd,"Her name will be Midnight, and I don't even know why her belly and wings are glowing!" As the forest slept, the mother heard a distant call and unfolded her massive wings to launch her into the air. Midnight opened her eyes for once. "Mom?" She realized at once her mother was gone. "Hush, little one." Shadow stood up, the voice didn't seem at all familiar. She whipped around to see another dragon, slightly taller than her and his emerald green eyes were fixed hungrily on her. "I'm sorry, but I have to do this." Without waiting for Midnight to react, he slammed a massive paw on her head, knocking her out cold. The dragon bent down to grab her by the tail and drag her to his lair. A few hours went by and Midnight awoke in an odd looking tank filled with green bubbly liquid. The first thing she saw was a deep black wolf pup staring straight back at her, his icy purple eyes filled with curiosity and something else that she couldn't quite read. "Tarlio! Get back here!" The wolf pup blinked at her, then padded over to the very same dragon who kidnapped her. The dragon was a royal red and his wings and belly were a lush gold along with his horns, which went a little way up then curved towards his back and up again.Tarlio looked the dragon in the eyes and snarled," Why must we do this? I can tell that she's suffering-" The red dragon swiped at Tarlio's head, leaving a long scar across his right eye. Tarlio yowled in agony as he reared back. " Get up fool! This is one of the three, born with darkness in her blood, power beyond our knowledge, even granted the gift of immortality! And you dare question why we hold her?!" The red dragon's eyes were glittering with hatred and hunger. "I-if you're so smart Blaze, then who are the others?" Tarlio looked up triumphantly, only to be cuffed on the head again. Before Blaze could answer, loud pawsteps came towards them. At once they bowed with their tails brushing the stony floor. "Get up!" A massive, deep blue muscular dragon stood towering over them. "Yes,father." They answered at once." I can see that you have brought the first of the three Blaze, well done." He swung his massive head towards Tarlio, "And what happened to you?! You turned into a wolf!" Tarlio remembered playing with his brother, Blaze and Blaze cast some spell on him to turn him into a wolf from a dragon. As the massive dragon swung his gaze back to Blaze, they broke into deep conversation. Tarlio Backed away to the tank that held Midnight. Midnight looked down upon him and cocked her head to one side in curiosity. Tarlio knew that he should help her, but how? Tarlio gave it some thought, and an idea burst into his head. " There must be some eject button around here somewhere!" Tarlio looked around him and sure enough, there was a red button with the word "Eject" on it."That was suprisingly convenient." Tarlio muttered under his breath. Tarlio pressed a deep black paw on the Eject button, and as soon as he lifted it up again, there was a loud crash. Tarlio winced as he braced himself for the loud screaming of both his father and his brother, but the cave stayed silent. Midnight stepped out of the now broken tank and stared at Tarlio with grateful chocolate brown eyes. As soon as Tarlio looked over his shoulder to see if the two dragons found out about the dragoness's escape, he felt his fur being ruffled by a breeze. This is a cave, there can't be wind in here!" Tarlio looked back to see Midnight had run away.As if beckoned to the broken tank, Blaze and their father raced towards the now broken tank gaping in horror. "What happened here?!?! Where's the dragoness?!?!?!" Blaze gave Tarlio an icy cold stare as if he knew the answer. "well Tarlio? You were here while this happened." Both dragons stared him down with a menacing glare. At last the father growled in a challenging snarl,"Go find her, if you think you can be as brave as your brother! That is an order!" Tarlio hesitated, then turned tail and fled out of the cave. " Blaze go and follow him, I wouldn't trust him to go alone." With that Blaze flew off after Tarlio, keeping to the bushes of the forest and peering to see Tarlio staring straight at Midnight. Apparently Midnight was absorbed in the mirror-like river."What should I do? Where should I go?" Midnight asked her answerless reflection. " I don't know where I am!" Her voice shook with fear of never seeing her mother again. Just then a rustle of leaves made Midnight whip around to see a pair of familiar emerald green eyes glowing back at her. Before she could react, Blaze leaped from his bush and pinned Midnight to the ground. "Let me go!" "No, you're coming with me!" Both dragons glared at each other for a moment. Before Blaze could pick her up again, Tarlio sprung at Blaze, send him flying off of his victim. Midnight watched for a short minute as the two strangled each other, screeching and cursing. Once again, she turned towards the river."Is this my only chance of escaping these weirdos?" A loud ear-splitting crack made Midnight glance over her shoulder.Sure enough, Blaze had burned a huge tree trunk and now it was going to squish the paralyzed Tarlio if she didn't act fast. Midnight whirled around and raced towards Tarlio, grabbing him by the scruff towards the river. Tarlio was pretty heavy, especially since he was a bit bigger than Midnight herself. As they reached the river Midnight slipped on a slick rock, sending the both of them down the river. Midnight was knocked out by the impact, leaving Tarlio splashing helplessly. Tarlio found Midnight bobbing up in the foamy current, motionless besides the rapid water.Taking a deep breath, Tarlio dove in after her. His eyes turned to slits as he fought the current, lungs longing for air. Grabbing her tail, Tarlio held on until they reached a sandy bank. Grabbing a low branch from a fallen tree, he hauled himself and Midnight onto the land. Tarlio's damp fur was clinging to his skin while Midnight just lay there. Tarlio could hear pawsteps coming closer and closer towards them, and soon enough a ginger kitten was gazing at them with jade green eyes. "Who are you? Can you speak?! What are you? My name is Lily!" Lily spoke so much that Tarlio had to tell her to be quiet and give him the chance to speak.But Lily was already nudging Midnight with her muzzle."Is she dead?She's not moving!" Tarlio didn't even bother answering. Lily kept poking Midnight's face to see if she was alive. After twenty pokes, Midnight bared all of her shiny white teeth in an enormous yawn. Lily shrieked and fell on her back, eyes wide with terror. "I-I thought you were dead!You're not gonna eat me are you?!" She couldn't help stammering. Midnight tried to open her eyes, but they seemed too heavy."I had better take you guys home! Maybe Mom and Dad can see whats wrong!" She hesitated and then spoke softly. "Maybe you can carry her, I don't like being eaten." With that, she led the way to her home. Sighing, Tarlio heaved the half consious Midnight onto his back and followed Lily.
