Jethro || Disloyalty

Postby armads » Sat May 13, 2017 9:41 am

"Dealing in money laundering with a known criminal—you're no better than the scum you promise to wipe from the streets." Jethro was seething.

"You are young, and you know nothing." The chief shifted the cigarette in his mouth, which formed a tight line as he took a drag, expelling thin, curling smoke through his nostrils.

"I know the difference between right and wrong." The words ripped from his throat as his fists met the desk, shaking its contents with the impact. His boss raised an eyebrow, but remained otherwise devoid of emotion.

"Subdue him."

The two officers that flanked the office door closed in swiftly and silently, seizing his arms and hauling him backward, heavy black boots dragging on the threadbare carpet as he went. They were each easily twice his size, with three times his combat expertise, and Jet snarled, feeling very much like a caged animal. He was outmatched, outnumbered, outsmarted, and it burned him to his core.

"You should learn to keep your nose out of other peoples' business."

"It's my job to investigate crimes."

"Your job," the chief hissed, rage seeping into his voice like venom into a wound, "Is to follow orders and keep your head down." He regarded the rookie cop before him through the tar-scented haze. "Don't make this harder than it needs to be."

omnipresent influence

if he is something I can feel inside my chest, safe and heavy within my ribcage, then you are something more: something I don't see, don't think about, but still you're there, entangled with the very fibers of my being, in my sinew and my bone. I couldn't remove you if I tried.
(we both know I wouldn't dare)

hunched below the windowsill, panting and bleeding, his darting eyes tracked the shadows' movement through the slats of the dingy vertical blinds. they moved slowly, purposefully, shoulders hunched in a manner that suggested concealed weapons. not that he'd expected any different.
