Dᴇᴀʀ GᴏᴅSlinking through the tall, dew kissed grass was a small bean. Their fur was short and white, decorated proudly with intricate black and blue designs. Each step they took was cautious and thought out. Every so often they would pause, take a deep breath and try to catch any threatening scents. They stopped in their tracks, nose in the air. Something didn't smell right to them, but they couldn't identify it. Oh well. They squinted their eyes, let out a little snort, and continued on their way.

The smell he detected earlier was gradually getting stronger, but... He didn't quite understand what scent he was smelling. He continued marching on, but he kept his belly low to the ground, just barely brushing across the dusty earth. Silently he marched onward through the brush along his invisible path. He squinted as he tried to see what was in front of him. Alas, he could not see well but continued on his journey. The strange odor was getting stronger, but he pressed onward without any fear. The bean inhaled a whiff of confidence and paraded forward. Just then he ran into something. It wasn't a tree or a bush, and whatever it was reeked of a horrid smell. He peered up and tried to see what was in his way...whatever it was towered over him and had a wicked grin.
"Hello," answered a coarse but tranquil voice.

Are you lost?" The voice inquired, there was some worry dripping from the words. The babe sat down and huffed, glaring at the direction of the voice. His poor sight couldn't make anything out besides a light colored figure with darker--but not quite that dark--stripes and dashes painted all over them. It looked strange and it smelled just as bad...He heard it step closer to him and just as it did he calmly took a step back. "What is a little bean like you doing here?" The voice chuckled and nudged the child once more. Filled with curiosity, he approached the figure....was that blob the same species as he was?

Can you see me?" He asked, fretting over the fact that someone would leave a small child who couldn't see all by themselves. The tiny baby sighed through his nose and stared down Toliver. "Hmm, maybe you aren't completely blind. But where did you come from?" Toliver inquired, hoping the baby could understand exactly what he was saying. Just in the little thing looked up towards the blue sky. "You came from the sky? Or rather the heavens..." he mumbled to himself. He looked upwards to the sky for a bit before looking down at the child he was holding. "I wouldn't expect you to have a name, or even tell me it. One of my old shipmates knew some Spanish, he was our navigator and kept referring to the sky as 'Cielo'." The babe's ears twitched as they studied Toliver's face as if they were acknowledging what he was saying. "Well, I think you'll be sticking with me, little Cielo." Toliver declared as he set the child down and nudged him along back to his home.

When asked about Cielo, Toliver will crack a smile.
"He has a laid back kind of character, but there is a hint of seriousness to him. Cielo is curious but cautious, he wants to learn and discover new things, but he doesn't want to run into trouble."
Cielo gently waded into the smooth flowing river and let out a happy sigh. Nothing felt better after a long hike than cooling down in the frosty water. Just then, a smooth silvery figure darted out in front of him. Excited, Cielo lurched forward to see it better. Just as he did so, the little blob disappeared. Cielo turned around, looking at Toliver as if he wanted an answer to what that thing was. However, Toliver had just begun to take a light snooze. Cielo huffed and stood up in the water, searching for the creature. He spotted one not far and he crouched then jumped to grab it. Darn...whatever it was, was very fast. He was determined to discover whatever was so shiny and so fast. Every so often he would pause and leap, splashing in the river and scaring away his catch.
"He rarely speaks, always just listening and inhaling all the scents around him. Listening to the trees sway and smelling the musty leaves must seem so relaxing and tranquil to him."
All the splashing woke Toliver up and he watched Cielo curiously. Cielo chased the brilliantly fast color further across the water. Soon, however, he followed it all the way until he couldn't touch the bottom. With a squeak, he slipped into the slow moving water. Bursting his head above the water he tried to do what his instincts were telling him to do and swim. He wasn't very successful, but Toliver waded over to him and lifted him above the water. Although it wasn't too deep for Toliver, Cielo was far too small and couldn't figure out how to swim. Toliver cracked a smile as his tiny companion was soaking wet and grumbling. "What were you doing?" Toliver asked, unable to hold in his laughter. "There...there was this silver-colored creature in the water, I wanted to get a better look." Cielo mumbled quietly as he shivered from the cold. "You mean the fishes? Well sure swimming with them is a good idea if you know how." Toliver chuckled some more as he went to get Cielo warmed up.
"He doesn't really recall much before I found him, just that he was walking down some imaginary path. That's pretty understandable, he doesn't have a very good sense of sight and he is still so young."
"The key to figuring out how to swim, is to trust me and your own ability to swim." Toliver instructed in a soft tone. Cielo nodded as he listened, squinting up at Toliver before letting out a soft sneeze. Toliver cracked a smile as he nudged Cielo towards the slow moving river and waded in after him. They walked further and further into the cold water until Cielo could barely touch. A bit panicked, he started to cling to Toliver's leg. Toliver gently shook him off, "don't be afraid, I'm watching over you. I promise I won't let anything happen to you." Cielo nodded and bravely decided to give it a go. He took a few steps further and soon he couldn't touch at all. "Just try to float until you get the hang of it, your instincts should kick in." Toliver advised as he trekked deeper into the water. Cielo relaxed and did as he was told, and in a way, it was very tranquil to be able to just drift in the sparkling river.
"When I first found him I backtracked his little trail and found a small makeshift bed. Beside it, I saw another set of tracks, ones that were a bit smaller than Cielo's. I always wondered if there was another little one there too, but it had begun to storm so I decided to investigate later. I was never able to find my way back to those tracks."
"Okay so swimming kind of came naturally to me." Toliver laughed, "I think it should come naturally to you but in a way you kind of just use your legs to paddle you in the direction you want to go." Cielo nodded as he floated and tried to do what Toliver horribly explained. He tried using his arms and legs as what Toliver described as 'paddles', but the whole ordeal was just too awkward to him. Frustrated he ducked under the surface of the water. With his eyes open he couldn't see any better than he could when he was above water. However, something caught his eye: a silvery figure that was swimming not too far ahead of him. It was the fish! Cielo wriggled through the water and used his legs to maneuver and propel him through the water. He darted after the fish and managed to barely touch it's scaly, slimy skin before it swam away. Cielo popped up above the water, grinning as he caught his breath. Toliver was also grinning like a madman, as he laughed "Or you know, you can swim like that!"

Toliver walked up the small steps to the house. He had something under his coat as he slowly opened the door. "Cielo? You here?" He called out softly, it was still early in the morning and he was unsure if Cielo was awake yet. There was some soft pitter patter that echoed throughout the quiet house. Then a small bean appeared at the end of the hallway. His blue eyes glittered in the soft light of the waking sun. "Hi Toliver." Cielo replied as he looked curiously down at whatever Toliver was hiding underneath his coat. Toliver caught his gaze and cracked a smile. "I bet you want to know what this is," He sang as he walked closer to Cielo. The child nodded his head eagerly, reaching up to grab for it. "Ah, ah, ah." Toliver tutted as he waggled a finger, "Remember your manners." Cielo huffed but complied, "Can I see what you got? Pleeaaaase?" Toliver's smile grew wider and he revealed what was under his coat: it was a cute little dog stuffed animal. It resembled a terrier of some sort and it was white with brown markings of a variety of colors. Cielo squeaked happily as he grabbed it, "it's so neat!" Toliver laughed over Cielo's reaction, "it's yours, if you want it." Cielo nodded and grinned.
Toliver sat Cielo on a tall stool beside a bar. It overlooked the kitchen and it was the perfect place to watch a child while cooking. "So," Toliver said as he walked into the kitchen and pulled out some pans, "Who wants breakfast? I want some blueberry pancakes." Cielo nodded as he gazed adoringly at the small toy he just recieved. Toliver danced over to the fridge and pantry to get all the ingredients he needed. He returned to the bar to begin to make the batter. "Hey Toliver?" Cielo softly asked, "How did you get Timmy?" Toliver looked over to Cielo, realizing he had just named the toy 'Timmy'. "Well," Toliver started, pondering on whether he should tell the tot that he got it from the store or not, "I went on the most amazing adventure this morning, all before you woke up."
Cielo's eyes widened in awe as Toliver began his story.
"I sauntered quietly out of the house, I had to make sure that I didn't awaken any of the enemy pirates that sometimes patrol the forests. I made a quick escape down the old deer trail by our cabin that leads to the road. When I got there I hopped into the back of someone's truck, careful not to let them see me. Eventually they drove into town. I hopped off the truck before they could see me and I headed towards the beach. That's where my pirate ship is, ya know? I rounded up my crew again and hopped onto it." Toliver began as he poured some of the batter onto the sizzling pan. Cielo watched as he was held in suspense. "Then what?" He impatiently and eagerly asked Toliver. Toliver flipped a pancake before folding his arms and pondered for a bit, "Well..."
"We pirates have a knack for finding great treasures. And well, we were on our merry way to find some. That's when we ran into another ship! Captain Joshua and his mighty crew were on the other ship, and soon the barged aboard mine. They were determined to take whatever treasures we had aboard. Luckily we didn't have any treasures on the ship, we stored the last of it in the bank. That's when I found it."Toliver continued before placing a stack of pancakes on a plate and two baby pancakes on another. He placed the latter plate in front of Cielo and sat on the stool beside him. Cielo took a big bite before looking over at a hungry Toliver stuffing his face, "And then?" Toliver looked over at Cielo and cracked a smile at how eager he was to hear the tale.
"On Captain Joshua's hat rested little Timmy, but the stinky pirate called him 'Cook'. I knew you would love it, so I wanted it. We didn't have any treasure to bargain for, so I decided that we would do it the pirate way. I challenged him to a duel." Toliver said before eating a forkful of pancake. Cielo continued to look at Toliver, wide eyed and gaping mouth full of pancake. Toliver finished chewing and swallowed some orange juice, "As I was saying, I challenged him to a duel. All the pirates far and wide know me as a great duelist and that old sea captain was soon ashakin' in his waterlogged boots. He however did agree to the challenge and drew his cutlass. My trusty second mate handed me my saber. The duel was on. Captain Joshua was trying to be sneaky and was constantly lunging and diving for me. Lucky for me I was much smarter, the sea water must've rotted his brain, and I ducked and weaved away from every move. I jumped up on a barrel, did a sick flip, and I managed to cut the beard right off him!"
"That old sea dog was so astonished and frustrated that he ripped the hat of his right off and threw it onto the deck of my ship. He grumbled and groaned as he called his men to leave. I picked up his hat and gave it back to him, but I held Timmy behind my ba--" "Wait!" Cielo cutted in, "You didn't steal him did you?" Toliver cracked a smile, knowing he was raising little Cielo right if he realized that stealing from others--no matter how bad they were--was definitely wrong. "No, I didn't steal him, I won him fair and square in the duel." Toliver comforted Cielo, "And I after our ship docked I ran home as fast as possible to get here before you woke up to surprise you." Cielo giggled and grinned, he had finished his pancakes and hopped off the stool. He ran off to play with Timmy outside in the calm forest.

Toliver never really imagined himself ever becoming a dad. He was a born and raised pirate who was so awkward that he never figured out how to make friends. He is, however, brilliant in surviving with the bare minimum (he wasn't exactly the richest until he started plundering). When he first met Cielo he was determined to protect and teach the child all he knew. Toliver doesn't think he was meant to be a father, but he is willing to try his hardest to be an okay one.
Toliver has noticed that Cielo has very poor eyesight, but his sense of smell and his hearing are very excellent. He keeps to himself a lot, only really ever talking to Toliver and even then it isn't much. He likes to just be in the moment, with the wind howling and the river running. Cielo puts a lot of thought into everything he does, and he never has done anything without a reason (unless of course, it's just his curiosity kicking in). He loves the world in its natural state, without any houses or cars, just the dancing flowers, and the welcoming sunshine. Toliver has decided to raise him in a small delicate cabin, away from all of the troubles that the 'real' world might bring to little Cielo's doorstep.
Cielo loves the tales that Toliver tells. Toliver manages to captivate him with old exaggerated pirate tales and fairytales with a little bit added to them. Cielo even believes that in another life, Toliver was a king, and maybe he was an angel.

Extra Notes:
just in case if you didn't pull them out from the stories
- Where Cielo is from is unknown, as he was too young to remember (and to speak) when he was first found by Toliver. Toliver just gave him the name Cielo because he looked up at the sky when Toliver asked where he came from.
- He is partially blind, but his other senses are fully functioning (he just doesn't talk much).
- I don't have a partner, and I hope that's okay because I figured it'd be really neat if they had different parents and then kinda grow up as friends or whatever and figure out that they're twins. I think it would be fun to rp that and it would be great for character development between the two. n v n <3
