~a story for viscet #285~
it was so hard to choose just the one extra but I hope you like the following story.
- i am in the midst of a group of viscets in a meadow of soft grass. the air is full of our fond conversation, scattered with plenty of inside jokes. it's crazy how most of these wonderful companions were strangers to me just three sunrises ago.
it all started at a different gathering. i was with several of my friends, but we had lost track of each other.
"evie," i heard a familiar voice call.
"excuse me," i said apologetically to the viscet i was speaking with. "i'll be right back."
turning to my friend, i asked with a smile, "what is it? you look excited."
breathlessly she related the events to me. she met an acquaintance, who mentioned that he and a group of mutual friends were visiting the ocean.
"well, what do you think? should we go? a visit to the ocean would be just breathtaking. . ."
"of course!" i was grinning. it was august and summer's oppressive heat was catching up to me. vacation would certainly be a surefire remedy to my boredom.
we convened early in the morning several days later. i'll admit, although i was known to be a confident and energetic sort of person, i was not too familiar with many of these viscets- and they all seemed to know each other.
"okay," i whispered to myself. "guess i'll introduce myself now. . ." with a bright smile, i walked confidently over to a cluster of viscets. "hi, i'm evie!"
they smiled, and introduced themselves, and from that moment on i was full of nothing but smiles.
the ocean was as lovely as i'd thought, although colder than expected. still, it was fun, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
today, our last day by the sea, was filled with many of the entertaining activities of previous days. however, tonight was special.
the fireflies were out.
some call them lightning bugs, but they were just like sparks of fire to me. they were plentiful back home too, but i had never seen as many of them in one place as i did tonight. it was truly magical and even more wonderful here with my newfound friends.
the younger viscets were attempting to catch these luminescent creatures but i was content just sitting there, basking in the pinpoints of light.
when winter's snow falls from the heavens, i want to be able to remember this beautiful summer night.
