"This hound is breedable on 21 Jan"

This kid is based off a cute male pup i picked up from harassing someone weed-eating the side of the road.
He went to rescue three days later and became a foster failure in July.

The contest for this hound is, tell me how they would react being left to fend for themselves?
How would they cope? What would they learn? Would they be less likely to take things for granted?

The above questions must be somewhere in your answer.

end date Jan 14th. Edits/forms past 11:59pm est Jan 13th will be voided.
Please no marking, prettying up form etc. Fill out the form.

hound name: Ramises
coloration: Smooth Black Piebald with minimal Ticking.
sex: male
age: 4
collar color: candy red
Prompt:
Ramises had just been exhiled from his past home. He would continuously getting in trouble, causing fights, and biting humans. He kept attempting to leave his duty of watching the Zebras. As he leaves his once home, he treads through the dust. T
He had been walking for maybe 40 minutes before he finds shade under a tree, and he sits. He looks back in the direction of the old ranch.. sighing he lays down, and closes his eyes, drifting off to sleep.
When he finally awakens, it's dark. His eyelids lift. He sighs and looks around. The owls make their calls..he sits up and stretches. He looks around the dark deserted area, he stands up and starts to walk. After a while he hears the distant howl of coyotes.....he looks around and snarls softly, before warily continuing. After a few hours...he Huff's and sits, tired, hungry, cold...thirsty. he looks around for a pond. Nothing but trees, termite mounds, and cacti....He sighs remembering what his old owners used to say about cacti. He breaks it down and licks the inside, getting pricked while doing so, drawing blood. He shakes his head.....crack..............he slowly turns.......three coyotes stand in front of him. He backs up and snarls softly...they lunge forward and attack the hound. He battles viciously, tearing at their necks, ripping back. They fight him back, biting at his legs and tearing at his back. They retreat running off into the night. He pants and collapses, his eyes slowly shutting.
He wakes up to the hot sun and a whimper...he quickly opens his eyes and jumps up, growling.
There's a hound
A large cream male with several red dots. He looks at him worried and concerned..."Are you alright?" He asks. Ramises growls and Huff's, seeing he means no harm. "I'm fine...." He mutters. Ramises sighs, "come with me, I'll bring you to my home." He starts to walk. Slowly Ramises hesitates.....but joins him...

Sorry it's badly written, I'm bad at this oof

storage thread: ARK Senegals
hound name: ARK Equinox | "Nox"
coloration: Smooth Black Piebald with minimal Ticking.
sex: Male
age: 2 years
collar color: Yin/yang with gold buckle
Prompt: Nox has been alone for most of his life, so it isn't something out of the ordinary anymore. Growing up feral on the streets of Johannesburg, he got separated from his mother and siblings just barely old enough to be weaned, and had to learn to fend for himself. If nothing else, Nox is resourceful; for a long time he panicked, cried, searched for them, but to no avail. He tried to find another pack, join other dogs, but none had any space for the poor Senegal, and would aggressively chase him off of their neighborhood and territories. But Nox used that pain and fear to make himself stronger; he picked out his own territory and learned to beg and scavenge, and he made it to his first year. Then he learned how to defend the territory he'd established; though small, there were plenty of restaurants and dumpsters, and he guarded them viciously. His third year came around, and he was not only surviving, but thriving. Being a street dog was hard, but he pressed on.

Five years old and a new pack came into town, one that finally drove him out of his area. They attacked and tore into him, leaving him bloody and wounded, hobbling away into the darkness. It was right back to square one, alone, afraid and starving, and this time Nox wasn't sure he could pick himself back up. A week passed and suddenly he found himself scooped up by a rescue, having heard of a "diseased mutt" hanging around one of the nicer neighborhoods. At first he fought the humans, only having known anger and aggression from them, but within minutes their gentle tough and soothing voices had him relaxed, and his trust in them grew over the following days. He had food, plenty of treats, and slowly but surely they were fighting the infection that had settled in to those open injuries. By the time they were done, he wanted nothing to do with being a street dog anymore. He couldn't live without him humans.

Year six, and Nox has finally found his forever home. A house pet in the upper class neighborhoods of Johannesburg, he keeps the house safe during the day when his girl in gone to school and her father is at work. He keeps the stay-at-home mom company, content to just lay on the couch quietly while she does the house chores and watches television. He lives a posh life now, and he doesn't take one bit of it for granted. He still remembers all of those long nights alone in the cold, and still panics every so often thinking about if he would ever have to go through that again. He now suffers from extreme separation anxiety, and can't stand to be alone for more than a few hours at a time. But he presses on, and always waits by the window for his people to come home. After all, he has to trust that they will.

hound name: Baxter
coloration: Smooth Black Piebald with minimal Ticking.
sex: Male
age: 1
collar color: Eye color please
Prompt: When he's left alone, he would try his best to figure out the gist of things, and overcome fears he's had that might happen without help. It would usually take him 2 days to learn something he's never done alone, or even done before. If Bax doesn't understand or know, he will panic and find a place to hide from dangers.

hound name: Apollo
coloration: Smooth Black Piebald with minimal Ticking.
sex: Male
age: 6 years
collar color: Navy blue with gold stripe
Prompt:

As a pup Apollo was always cared for by his family, owner, and kennel mates. He was then sold when he was a little older and his new human also took care of his every need. That is, until they got sick. When his human got sick Apollo was sent away to live with one of his owner's relatives on a farm.
On the farm he was expected to do the job he was trained for and pull his weight to earn a meal. He was less a pet and more a working animal now.
Though he'd never had to work much for things before, he was determined not to let himself be totally inept so tried as best he could to learn how to do things himself.
If he were left to fend for himself now he would probably do pretty well.

In those first few days in order to cope Apollo tried to focus on the fact that he did want to please his new owner and he didn't want the other dogs on the farm to think he was useless or spoiled. Even though he'd had an easier life as a pet before he was at least willing to try to make this work and reminded himself that he was lucky to have a home and not have been sent to a shelter or left on the streets.

While on the farm he learned a lot about how to protect himself and the other farm animals, and how to be careful around certain animals and plants that he had never encountered before.

Because of this experience he has learned better how to deal with change, and that it isn't always a bad thing. He has also learned how he can make it easier on himself and develop better coping methods than laying around feeling sorry for himself. After all, he sometimes took for granted how easy his life was with his first owner. the farm is harder, but still nowhere near as hard as it could be. So were he to be left to fend for himself more again Apollo would be better prepared to deal with it and he has certainly learned not to take for granted all the little things he has that others are not lucky enough to have for themselves.

storage thread: The Protection
hound name: "Spark of Hope" [Sparky]
coloration: Smooth Black Piebald with minimal Ticking.
sex: Male
age: 3 years
collar color: black leather with a brass colored buckle, please!
Prompt:

How would he react to being left to fend for themselves?
It just sort of happened. Wandered too far (from someone who had a few too many things to keep track of to have gotten a puppy in good faith), through a hole in the fence (the second fence-- he jumped over the first one), out into the world. It was cool!

-- the first few hours. Until it was dinner time and his bowl wasn't in sight. If he tried really hard, maybe he could have made it back... but he didn't feel the need. No real desire to go back to how things were, with all the expected boring things he already explored. This was going to be fun!

Scrounging through trash and food courts was rewarding until it wasn't and there were other animals wanting the few scraps he did manage to find. High spirits would have fizzled out by the 24 hr mark, but by then Sparky was too lost (and his prior owner... to overwhelmed to really miss him) to head back.

How would he cope?
Even though living and a stray was hard, there was something to be said for doing whatever he wanted and going where he pleased. There were always friendly people who would entertain his need for a good scratch and some pets and some nice words. Sometimes even some food! Anytime Sparky felt lonely, he had plenty of his usual spots with people and other strays to turn to. Other dogs he'd made friends with would let him sleep with them sometimes if they went out scavenging the next day. Sometimes the people who didn't have homes like him just wanted some time together. Whoever thinks strays are lonely has never followed Sparky around on his daily rounds to see all his friends.

What he learned?
He would learn pretty quick that while life as a pet is nice for most... all owners are not created equal. Sparky would see the good owners and their happy dogs and wonder if he would have wandered off if he lived like that. No use in thinking too hard about it, it wasn't his lot in life. The basic skills he would need to survive as a stray is a more obvious answer to this question, but Sparky has lots of time to rest and reflect on the world around him. Maybe if the right owner came around, he'd consider letting someone catch him and bring him back into a home where he's cherished as another living soul and not... as some pretty breathing thing to have around.

Is he less likely to take things for granted?
Sparky, when he makes his way to the reserve (it's a long, convoluted story of pounds and Senegal hound rescues to finding his way as a working hound), adjusts quite well to life on the reserve. He loves his meals but he isn't food aggressive, trusting his handlers to get him his fair share every time. He won't ever forget his time as a stray, even as he easily transitions to being a working dog. His time as a stray gave him glimpses into the lives of many others. His unbelievable luck of ending up with a good home and fair handlers and a pack of hounds who accept him is something Sparky won't ever scorn. He does not look badly or shamefully as his life as a stray-- he thinks it gives him some unique edges over some hounds. Having confidence in himself is one of his most valued lessons.
