introducing rescue tolt #5, the donkey!
this tolt somehow showed up on of front stoop not too long ago, snuffling around in our carrot beds! we were shocked that it could walk, let alone just appear. odds are that this poor thing was dumped on us, in hopes that we would take it in or just so that its prior owner could be rid of them. luckily for it that they chose us and not the side of the road somewhere! upon further inspection we discovered that this tolt/donkey is mostly blind, with extreme cataracts, as well as partially deaf. their hooves will need some special care, but once that's taken care of they shouldn't require too much extra care, as they've shown themselves to be very hardy as it is!

I'm pouring my heart and soul into this baby! I'm having too much fun!

how will you help accommodate them? Due to the fact that Onyx's hooves must be taken care of, this will be a priority. Once the hooves are properly cut to their original state and she is comfortable moving around without the extra weight, the next step would be to move her into a stall. Preferably in between two others so she will feel more comfortable, knowing others are around. This will also enable each horse to get to know Onyx. Eventually when I know who is comfortable around her, I will let one or two others out in a pasture with her to let them know her better and let Onyx get a feel for the place. Seeing as she is nearly blind and partially deaf, she could still see a bit of the fence, but other horses would help establish where is what since they know the place. As time passes and I slowly introduce everyone to Onyx, I can observe who can be out with her and who can't, depending on how they react to her presence. Once she gets more comfortable at the stable and becomes good friends with the others, I will be able to improve her life further as everything stabilizes.

will they have a companion? tell me about their first meeting; It has been three since Onyx has moved into Three Moons Stable. I positioned her stall in between Carolina and Serenity. I figured either one of them would be very good friends, since Carolina is very sweet and Serenity has a knack for helping others that she senses needing help. I decided today I would let Onyx into the pasture with just Serenity, since Onyx already had a sense of who she is and I would rather not overwhelm her with another horse. That, and they have a common trait; Serenity was deaf and Onyx was nearly deaf. So I let her out and led her into the middle of the pasture, and then brought out Serenity. Then, I watched the scene unfold with curiosity.

This was a new feeling from the straw bedding of her stall. Onyx was confused. It was grass beneath her hooves, but it was strange to her. She had little left of her sight and hearing and the weight had been lifted from her hooves. Yet she was hesitant to move. She couldn't sense where the fence closed off. A few moments later, however, a familiar scent filled her nostrils. It was the mare that was situated to the left of her stall! Serenity was it? That's what she thought she heard from the human. Onyx jumped slightly in surprised when she felt a small nudge on her neck. She snorted stubbornly and still did not move. She couldn't see it, but Serenity had a calm and pleasant expression on her.

Serenity had known very quickly about Onyx's problem, since she did not get excited when everyone else saw the food buckets down the hall until they were very close and hardly jumped liked the others in surprise when the loud fans clicked on. So she decided the best way to befriend the donkey was to physically show her around. She felt the jenny's jump at her slightly nudge. Clearly she didn't understand the meaning of it. Move was what it meant. So she pushed harder and earned pinned ears until she started walking against/next to her, urging Onyx to move. It took a couple of tries to get her to understand, but soon the jenny was walking slowly and cautiously against her. Letting Serenity guide her. Serenity was intrigued as to why her footsteps seemed exaggerated, almost as if she was a newborn foal learning to walk. Nevertheless, Serenity continued walking in pace with Onyx. Eventually, she gently made her brush up against the fence, to establish where it was.

Onyx certainly did not approve of this idea. The moment she felt herself brush up against the smooth fence, she backed away with her ears pinned. What was this mare thinking?? She felt her nudge her against gently, but she replied with a snappy nip and backing away from the fence. Onyx stood there and waited for something to happen. Another nudge. But nothing came. Well, she had come this far, why not go herself? And so she started to cautiously walk.

Serenity was a bit annoyed that she had been nipped away. She was only trying to help! But perhaps the hardy jenny needed some time to herself. So she watched. She let out an amused snort when she walked right into a fence, surprise written clearly on her face. Eventually she decided the poor, confused Onyx would need her help again. And thus began the process again, trust being given and gained.

After watching this unfold, I would think they are perfect companions to one another, I smiled and let them be, walking back to the barn, proud of my choices.

do they have an interesting quirk? tell me a quick story about it; Every single time Onyx wants attention or treats, she will look to the end of the hall where she knew I usually enter. Not just look, straight up staring a hole into me! Whenever she knows I'm around, she will just stare. Like she is trying to look into my soul for treats and attention. It does get a little creepy at times, because it sometimes makes it look like she can see, with the addition of her clouded eyes. However, it was quite cute and funny! I wouldn't change it for the world.

Quote: "At a moment of darkness, remember, the sun will always rise no matter what." (Quote by me) For Onyx, it was both literal and figurative that she was in a dark place. Nearly blind, she could barely see what was in front of her. She didn't know what would happen to her, after a long while of neglect that also left her hooves to grow without restraint. But she was found, and eventually rehomed, showing her that darkness may not fade for along time, but there will always be something to out-shine it eventually.

Charlie is a very out and about, fun loving, and good hearted spirit, and never lets
the worse get to him. Charlie doesn't EVER let is past get to him, and proceeds with
to imagine how amazing his feature will be. As it had been told, Charlie this fun loving
boy, wasn't always smiles, and hugs. Charlie had been mistreated in the past, and as bad
as that is, Charlie will always be aware of his current health problems. As this is so, Charlie
will need to be kept up to date with his health, and will be treated as often as he needs.
We herre at Neverland's Ranch, were fortunate enough to have a vet come down, and join
our lives here, who has grown a very large attachment to out stunning, gorgeous boy,
Charlie. Our vet, had grown so attached to charlie, that she had rebuilt an old stable,
and decorated it out, too suit all Charlie's dreams, and wonders. It contains everything
Charlie needs, and also includes a little section for a pony, which we will get more into, in the
next few questions. Our vet has done so well with Charlie, and it is told no other human
Charlie has loved as much as our vet. Charlie's stall had been splashed with touches of
baby blue every where, as to us, baby blue suits him beautifully.

It was not till the week after Charlie was introduced to us, and was welcomed to our stables,
until Charlie met Bradly. Bradly is one of our rescue ponies, who was given to us, by a lady,
who could care for all Bradly needs, as she already had her hands full on multiple other animals.
Bradly fitted right in, despite his size, he believed he could do anything, as long as he'd try.
Bradly was born as a dwarf pony, which needed a lot of attention, and affection, as he also suffered
with separation anxiety. We all thought of ways we could help our little boy, but nothing really
caught our eye. Then one day, Charlie came along. Once charlie had eventually settled in, we
thought he would be the perfect match for our gentle boy, Bradly. Days went by, then the day
when the 2 would meet for the first time came along. We decided, we would introduce them
somewhere special, where they would remember this forever. Both the horses had never been
introduced to a herd, so we thought we would take them out to the outback, let them introduce
themselves, then we would take them to a place where we had saved brumbies from almost
death experiences, who we had put in a large pasture, surrounded by fences, as they were
unable to survive in the wild. All out brumbies, have gotten pretty used to us, and are surprisingly
very friendly to all our horses. When the day came, we drove out to the spot, and introduced the two
to each other. As we unloaded the two from different floats, it was finally the time we had been
waiting for. The first time they would meet. Bradly speeded up too Charlie, with no nudge of
anything bad in his head. Charlie was scared at first, but then started to groom little bradly,
thinking he was going to be a dad or something. The pair got on so well! Now it was time to introduce
them to the herd. We opened up the gate, and the two bolted in after each other. It was amzing to see them
each having the time of their lives, chassing after one another. Weeks went by and the pair are still
closer then ever.

Charlie and Bradly have alot of very unique and interesting quirks, but the most oddest, one would definatley
have to be their obsession with goats. Yup, you heard it right, goats. At our ranch, we own a huge trip of goats,
who the two are crazy about, and love to hang out with. The pair have hung out so much with the goats, that
they now believe they are goats! They love to jump around with them, and even take little races. everyone of
the goats know Charlie's their leader, and he loves that! That's how he got his name, King Charles! And Charlie
sure likes the attention he receives as the king of the trip!

Charlie is a very sweet, calm and collected boy, and never really had a bad side to him. As most donkies
would be like, you know the usual bucking and, being a bit of a pain in the butt... Charlie's the complete
opposite! Charlie doesn't act anything like the usual donkey, but does share some quirky characteristics.
For the fun of it, when Charlie is in a happy playful mood, he will gallop around, air-bucking, but would
never, ever, EVER, attempt, or try to buck another. Charlie shares way more horse characteristics then
he would with a donkey, which is quite strange. Anyways, altogether, he is a chill little guy, who LOVES
everyone, and will try his best to meet new people/ and animals whenever he's given the chance!

♥ GOATS, he loves goats more then anything, (other then Bradly).

I'm trying my very hardest to look after this baby will my heart,
I love him so so so much, and I promise he will be gifted with the most amazing

tell me about their first meeting; We turned Dolly out in the pasture and she sensed a new animal. She was clueless until a little misfit brown goat ( who's tiny compared to Dolly) started grooming her legs since the where dirty. Dolly was taken aback by this. So she reached down and groomed the little goat. Now they sleep together, eat together, and drink together! b]
