"Wʜʏ ᴅᴏɴ'ᴛ ʏᴏᴜ ᴄʜᴇᴄᴋ ᴏᴜᴛ ᴛʜᴇ sʜᴏᴘs ᴀʀᴏᴜɴᴅ ᴛᴏᴡɴ ᴏʀ sᴏᴍᴇᴛʜɪɴɢ?"
I awoke to the sound of birds at my window letting me know it was time to wake to see what the day would bring. The sun was just rising bringing with it a warmth and brightness which illuminated everything that had just been shadowed by the darkness of night. Then I remembered what it was that I had planned for the day, I was going shopping as the start of the Summer season always brought exciting things to see, buy and try on. I quickly got dressed into a strappy dress covered in bright yellow flowers, yes that would do, and a pair of comfortable slides that would get me through my shopping day marathon. I didn't have time for breakfast, I would grab a hot chocolate and cake later. I threw my hair into a knot high on my head and flew out the door. The walk to the store gave a beautiful view of the ocean waves. The first shop I came to was a souvenir shop. Being this close to the beach it was filled with all things beachy. The first thing that took my senses was a shell wind chime, that would be perfect for my mum, she loves shells and this would remind her of the beach. Then I saw a surfboard magnet that happened to have my sister's name on it, perfect! Now that I had brought half of my family gifts I would need to buy two more! Now for my dad... he was always hard to buy for. Found it! A pen, that when you tip down the water dazzled with bright tiny fish. Now just one more gift for my big sister who loved dolphins. At the counter while balancing the souvenirs in my arms I saw a framed picture of a dolphin jumping through the waves, it would match her bedroom perfectly. Wow, that's what I call some super shopping! Oh, and I've only just gotten started, now to go clothes shopping for me!

Fawkes was VERY relieved to hear that he had a few days off to go actually explore on the island. He felt like a large burden had been lifted off of his chest. He didn’t want to admit it to Shark but he has been very stressed out about getting all of these ship parts and running errands all over the island for days. Fawkes cheerfully walked around the island and examined all that the people there had to offer to him. He wanted to buy one of everything to help the island prosper, but he simply didn’t have enough money for that.
Fawkes really wanted to buy something for his friend though. He had recently met him before they departed and he thought that he would appreciate a gift since he was always so grumpy and down. Fawkes had difficultly picking out the perfect gift though that his friend would enjoy. Just as he was about to give up, he found a tiki head under a table. He picked it up confused and examined it. The thing looked like it was around since this island was discovered. It was all wooden and carved with intricate detail. Fawkes grinned and decided to buy it instantly. Maybe it would bring his friend good luck, who knows?
What Fawkes didn’t know was that the civilians were eyeing him nervously and whispering amongst each other about how he was in possession of the cursed tiki that has been on this island for years. They say that bad luck will be cursed upon whoever touches it for the rest of their lives, and the only way to get rid of it is to somehow dump it into an underwater sea volcano.

Prompt 9: What do they buy and who is it for?
Alania wondered what to do for her day off, and decided to follow Shark's suggestion, walking cheerfully to the market to look at what they have for sale. As she browsed, she wasn't sure what to get; she already had collected souvenirs from the beach and jungle, and didn't really care for any special shirts or jewellery, or any sort of artificial, man-made item. For her, those seashells and pressed leaves would be enough to remember this trip by, not that she would ever forget such an experience. Seeing the ocean, new species of just about everything, as well as talking to mermaids: it would take a curse for her to forget those sights. And she, admittedly, did not have any 'friends' to give gifts to, as she rarely talked or interacted with the townsfolk near her home. But this brought an idea to mind - though she may not have friends who were of the same species as her, she had never been lonely, with the forest and its creatures as her companions. Maybe she could find something for them?
With a goal now, the lithe girl darted through the shops, buying mainly fruit. It suited everyone: the fauna could eat them, and leave any cores or remains as compost for the flora. A perfect gift, for her perfect friends.

Prompt #9 "Wʜʏ ᴅᴏɴ'ᴛ ʏᴏᴜ ᴄʜᴇᴄᴋ ᴏᴜᴛ ᴛʜᴇ sʜᴏᴘs ᴀʀᴏᴜɴᴅ ᴛᴏᴡɴ ᴏʀ sᴏᴍᴇᴛʜɪɴɢ?"
Your kalon decides to go shopping for some vacation souvenirs! What do they buy and who is it for?
Shark shooed him towards the direction of the stores on the island. Radford scowled and slowly wandered away from the busy mechanic. He attempted to understand how one would actually enjoy a shopping experience but his mind couldn't comprehend the concept. Maybe he would get it if he actually had someone to buy something for. The reality was vastly different. Radford had burned all his bridges back home and then instead of using the cruise as an opportunity to escape his reputation, he had wandered the decks sulking and hadn't made any attempts at socialising with the others. In fact, the only kalons who had bothered to speak to him were the islanders who needed his assistance and the employees on the ship.
Radford had to admit it would of been a really lonely holiday without the interactions from the Krab Kruise employees, Kalokairi natives and possibly the only other kalon who was more socially awkward than he was, Monty. He laughed quietly and thought about all the strange experiences the last week had brought. A lightness filled his heart. It appeared he had a few kalons to buy things for after all. He was happy his competitive nature had come in handy, as he had a stack of the islanders' preferred currency, mermaid scales, to burn through.
At an eye-catching sweet shop he bought Timothy a huge bag of candies and jewel pops for his favourite con artists, Spider and Rook. At the second hand store he discovered an outrageous Hawaiian shirt that Sea Charmer would definitely pull off as well as a well preserved copy of Captain Blood by Rafael Sabatini for bibliophile Monty. At the general store he found a large box of surf wax for Mako, sand shoes for Captain, a crab rake for Egg to assist with beach clean up and a large diving bag for hoarder Aukai. Finally, at the souvenir shop he collected a number of cute hair clips for Brandy including a sparkly orange starfish and glittering red crab and a plushie baby shark for Caro to remind him that life wasn't always meant to be serious (ironically he didn't stop to think about how he should also take this advice to heart).
Arms loaded with goodies, he trekked back to his cabin to discover hours had passed and he had enjoyed himself immensely. Maybe he should attempt to be less selfish more often, he mused. Now the only question left was how to wrap the gifts and send them anonymously - he wouldn't be caught dead actually handing over the goods himself.

[ ❧ ] you realize, at shark's suggestion, you havent gotten helena anything for when you get back home, or anyone else you know for that matter... you should probably do that, you think, as you wander down the docks and towards the shops. where to first? you skim over them, before deciding to check out the first one you see. the bells rings as you open the door wnd enter, and you cant help but smile when it does.
it's a quaint little shop, nautical/beach-themed and very cozy and, what you're most happy about, cool on the inside. it's a nice break from the blistering heat outside, and while you like summer and the beach as much as the next person, you're greatful for the blast of chilly air that hits you as you walk in and provides much needed relief from the heat. the clerk, a short and stout kalon with lavender fur and a hibiscus flower nestled neatly into their hair, right near their ear. they look up when they hear the bell ring, and you're met with a pair of bright strawberry red eyes that honestly kinda catch you off guard. "oh, hullo there! welcome to trixie's trinkets and treasures, what can i do for ya'?" they reply in a chipper voice, and you feel obligated to smile, if only to match their cheery disposition.
"oh, um, i was just wondering if you have anything for... a special someone?" you ask, "she likes a lot of things, but all of those things seem like kinda stereotypical gifts... i wanna get her something really special, you know?" you explain, and their eyes light up even brighter, somehow, practically sparkling, reminiscent of the ocean when the sun happens to hit the water just right, and dazzles everyone present with a sparkling spectacle.
"she must be quite the lucky girl, ain't she?" they hum, and you can't help but hide your face in your hands at the remark. they laugh at your reaction, and say between chuckles, "im just pulling your leg, dont worry! i know exactly what cha' mean! i've got just the thing, i just gotta go get it from the back, so hold tight! it'll be just a second, dont cha' worry!" they laugh again, and disappear into the back. you fiddle with the hem of your shorts in the mean time, and look up just as they come back.
"here we are..." they say, and set down a wooden box on the counter. there's intricate carving all the way around, and golden accents all over the box. other than that though, it's just a normal box, nothing you havent already seen before.
"this here isnt a normal pendant, y'see?" they say as they carefully open the box, and inside you see... one of the prettiest pendants you've ever seen. it was a brilliant blue spiral shell, attached carefully to a silver cord, and the most beautiful pearls on each side of the shell. "this here's a mermaid pendant... had it for as long as i can remember, a gift from some lovely folks in a valley, far, far from kalokairi. the mayor said one of the residents ending up moving away, and left this behind on accident... said he had no idea where the original owner had gotten it, since most of the valley's residents considered it merely a myth, but here it is! ya' give this to that girl of your's, and she'll love it, i guarantee it!"
you carefully take it in your hands, but the fear of dropping and breaking it has you afraid to move your hands away from the counter. "how much-" they interrupt, and wave a hand dismissively. "oh dont cha' worry, it's free of charge! i insist." they wont take no for an answer it seems... you nod, and thank them for their generosity.
"here, take this too! the box ought to keep it safe until you can take it home when that ship of your's gets fixed!" they hum, and you take it and nod again, before they hurry you out of the store. you end up shrugging, and too grateful for your stroke of luck to really complain, you start to head back to tuck this away somewhere safe, until the kruise is fixed.
they/he, adult, pms are okay!
just here for pets, oekaki, and

What do they buy and who is it for?
One for her mother, one for her sister, one for her cousin...
Another for her neighbor, for the friend she hadn't seen in months, for her grandmother...
Iris walked down each aisle, seeking unique gifts for the people she cared about in her life. Only she wasn't one to get generic little dinky souvenirs that sit in the bottom of a drawer for the span of their lives. She wanted to get ones that they would enjoy, would bring a smile to their faces and remind them of her.
Only, shopping for these many kalons was... Tiring. Iris sighed as she scratched off another name, looking down the list at the remainder. She had been up and down the strip attempting to find the perfect gifts, in and out of each store.
Eventually, she entered a local jewelry shop, seeing if she could find something for her mother. Her eyes traced the glass display in the front only to land on a necklace of brilliant, shining pearls - each one glistening in the sun from the window.
"Real pearls found right here in this here cove!" The kalon behind the counter beamed, noticing her interest. "Here, you can try them on if you wish."
Iris waved her hands, stating that it wasn't necessary, but the other kalon was swift and wasted no time in placing the pearls around her neck. "Ah, beautiful!"
Iris turned around to look a mirror, smiling at the reflection she saw. "Tell you what. I'll give you ten off of them because they look so stunning on you."
Iris contemplated it, rubbing the pearls between her fingers. All this shopping for others... Wasn't she allowed to get herself a little something, too?
"Sure, I'll take them!"
