Snow piled up heavily on the ground pretty quickly overnight, it was still snowing heavily when a dark haired guy(named Todd) set up his truck and trailer in the darkness before the sun even started peeking over the hills. It was Christmas and he had been planning a surprise for his girlfriend, Tasha, for a couple weeks now, he had his two huskies sitting in the passenger seat beside him as he turned on his lights and made his way to pick up the last Christmas present he needed for this morning's plans.
They lost their oldest husky, this past august when the weather seemed to be easing up a particularly nasty heatwave hit while they were gone to visit family. Their pet sitter didn't notice the heat affecting the dogs and left them outside anyways. By the time they managed to get back, Ninja, their first husky and the reason they had gotten their other two, Mally and Avalanche, had already suffered from the extreme heat, the only thing they could do was let him go peacefully.
It left them both feeling like they had lost some of the best parts of themselves with him.
One day recently while driving, Todd happened to glance out the window and see a giant husky cantering through the snow. He had to take a double take to notice the large husky was actually a horse with striking markings of a husky, the face mirrored 'Ninja's markings almost perfectly. He tracked down the owners of the horse to find that they weren't looking to sell him, after a couple visits and some persuading, they had set a price. It was a steep price, after a while they managed to set up a trade instead, he offered one his own horses that was a gentle soul, perfect for their young kids to ride and handle without worry. They warned him their horse was happier going fast than walking but they adored his markings and was the main reason they kept him.

Tasha wasn't surprised to find her boyfriend gone before she got up, he usually was. He would take their huskies out on a run and check on the horses and cows before breakfast. She got up and stumbled downstairs to find their christmas tree looking as beautiful as the night before, she wasn't rich but she was pleased to see that what few presents they had peeking underneath the branches glinted merrily in the lights. She had set up two stockings for their dogs, filled to the brim with dog treats and toys, while an empty stocking sat on the coffee table. She felt her eyes well up with tears, her boy Ninja always loved watching her pull out the stuff she had put in the stocking for him just the night before. She sat down on the couch and picked up the slightly dirty stocking, it was his favorite and he wouldn't even sniff at one that wasn't his own so she kept the same one for him for the past six years.
He had a personality that would sorely be missed, it was hard to tell people about him because half the time people couldn't believe the antics that Ninja would get up to.
She didn't know how long she was sitting there, tears slowly running down her face when she heard the familiar sound of Todd's truck grumbling loudly down the drive.
Odd, she thought to herself as she got up and walked into the kitchen, he didn't say that he needed to run to the store for something today. Most of the shops would be closed anyways. Probably dropping something off for someone, she supposed as she pulled out a pack of bacon and some pans to start on breakfast.
She had just pulled out the eggs from the fridge when she was greeted by two excited and snow covered huskies, she quickly set the eggs down and happily gave both dogs scratches along their backs. "What have you two gotten up to today?" "Not much, just chased a rabbit and took a ride with me." Todd leaned against the kitchen's doorway and watched her. "Look.. I know you said you're not ready for another dog.. Not since Ninja.."
Tasha's smiled faded as she looked at Todd's slightly guilty face. "Todd.. If you're implying what I think you are then I am going to be very mad at you!"

"Just take a look outside and you can be mad at me afterwards." He refused to look her into the eyes, she was furious and he wouldn't be able to keep a straight face if he looked at her right now. She stormed past him, still in her pajamas she threw the front door open to find herself face to face with an adorably fluffy face looking at her with husky blue eyes.
Haltered and with a bow, the horse let out a big huff of air and reach his muzzle out towards her. Tasha went from standing in the door to wrapping both arms around the impossibly fluffy neck while he just stood there sniffing at her shoulder.
"Alright so what do you think? I know you didn't want another dog but-" "You!" Todd had started to speak to her but she cut him off as she turned to look at him, both hands sitting firmly on her hips. "You tricked me!"
He just grinned, Mally and Avalanche sitting on either side of him, mouths open and tongues hanging out. "I did. I saw that face and knew he'd be perfect around here."
Tasha went from scowling to smiling before hugging her new horse again. "He's so fluffy and so soft. I guess.. We could use another horse around here." They both spent some time petting and greeting their newest husky in horse form before putting him in out of the cold in their barn and continuing Christmas inside the house.

"What do you plan on calling him now that he's all yours?" Todd asked as he sat beside Tasha on the couch, one arm wrapped around her shoulder while their dogs played with some new chew toys from their stockings. "I almost named Ninja Cade when we first got him, he reminds me of him but I couldn't handle another Ninja running around." Todd nodded in understanding. "Cade it is then."

Trouble In Paradise//Odin

Well, first, lets start off with the meaning of Odin's name. Her name is from the viking god of war that rides on a horse of eight legs. Now, that doesn't sound too christmas-y, does it? Well, you'll see the connection as I explain more! Santa originally had eight reindeer until the 20th century when Rudolf was added. Odin's hunting cry is the same of that of Santa's "ho ho ho!", you can see that Odin and Santa link together quite a bit and that's why I chose this name. I was wanting her name to have a link to Christmas, but not really sound Christmas-y. Now lets get to Odin's personality, because she sure has a big one.
This mischievous girl loves Christmas and all holidays. Scratch that, she loves any type of celebration that involves having fun and parties. She also has great agility and is one of the best in the barn with cross-country races, of which she loves. All that hard work doesn't come with nothing, Odin still loves having tons of fun and play time. She has very high energy and can flat out do what she wants when it comes to training and just about everything. It can take you a lot of time to teach her something she doesn't want to learn or do. But with so patience, she will cave in a do it. Odin is definitely a outgoing and social tolter and everybody knows Odin. During the holidays, her energy and cheer sky rocket, even though they are already high. And one thing that Odin loves most is snow. At the sight of it she gets so excited and wants to immediately go run, play and roll in it. That is why she can't get any training done in the mornings of snow, because she has to go roll and play in it and she will be distracted the entire time with the snow.
Odin not only love rolling, running and playing in the snow; she has also figured out how to make a igloo type snow den. She will find a big snow drift and start digging into it with her hooves. Though, sometimes it doesn't work out and snow ends up tumbling down on her. But she loves it the same and ends up playing in that snow and rubbing her fuzzy butt all over the other tolters to get snow on them. Odin usually finds the biggest snow drifts right on the edges of the field, right up against the fence. She loves making little snow dens for the other horses, especially for ones that would play with her and do snow ball fights like Gator. She's had the most funnest of times in the snow, and she's even gotten her riders before. Odin would wait for them to come to her in the field, wait right next to a tree with snow packed branches, then once they got under the tree she would bump right into it, causing all the snow to fall. At the end both her rider and her would be laughing and having fun.
Though, one thing that Odin doesn't really like is when it comes to the middle of the summer, right to the hottest days. She does not like the heat and she will often spend those almost miserable days with in the barns air conditioned walls. Though, she sure does make the most of it. Odin tries to have the most fun and mischief in the large indoor arena that she spends most of her summer days in. She loves playing with the big red ball with the green stripe down the middle of it. Although, she has gotten a bit too carried away and has ended up falling right on it and bouncing on to the ground. But she gets right back and chases down the ball. Odin can often get Gator and his gang to play with her during those hot days. Odin is friends with everyone in the stables, what's not to love about this cheerful, energetic, happy tolter? She can even get Axle to smile at times and not be the grump he is.
