sparklepony: but that still leaves other parts of Asia--especially Japan and Korea--where they still eat dogs and cats and serve LIVE frogs and octopi to people! But like I said before, people are meant to eat meat, but not the way it is today with huge livestock farms, feedlots, and cruel, bloody, and ruthless slaughterhouses--that's over-the-top! Nature did not intend us to kill THIS MUCH!!!

Xeta's right, we can't stop people eating meat - some of my real-life friends are omnivoruose - but the amount of slaughter is riduculose, not to mention the ways of killing he animals them-selves. Skidds - and Cardinal for that matter :x - have a look at all the previouse dicussion, the websites, the pictures and just think about it - espically you Cardinal, animals DON'T equal food, you wouldn't just go eat your pet dog, would you????!!!!!

I would totally eat rabbit. Not MY rabbit, but a rabbit. It's very, very healthy. Also, I like how you worded it that "some of my real-life friends are omnivores", like they're wrong somehow. That's their decision to make, not yours.

I've been involved in animal welfare for probably a decade - so I'm sorry, but no, I've heard every single argument any 14 year old "PeTA 2" member can come up with. Rabbit breeding is an astoundingly awesome practice in third world countries - the rabbits are cheap, eat very little, can be housed very cost-effectively, and provide a great source of protien for people who desperately need it (besides the pelts that can ALSO be harvested).

But excuse me for not playing into your emotional argument. I am an animal lover, and I'm going into animal science as a profession (veterinary, probably) - and to say I'm not an animal lover is DEAD WRONG. However, I am an animal WELFARE supporter - not an animal rights one. I eat meat that has been properly and painlessly processed. I get eggs from my neighbors free-range chickens. I would not eat "crated" veal - I probably wouldn't eat veal at all, but if I did, it would be from an animal that was produced properly. I am sorry if my meat-eating stance offends you. I assure you that my dog very much agrees with me that beef and pork and chicken are delicious. :3

"Animal rights" isn't the only stance you can take. If you want me to read the past conversation and links, I urge you to read mine: Animal Welfare Institute, Temple Grandin's Animal Welfare procedures.

I'm a very logic-oriented person - I dislike the use of grotesque, radical images that have little resemblance to actual animal processing plants. I can't stand the lack of information on animal rights websites, and how they disregard actual information. Any of you who are opposed to eating animals: what do you know about captive bolt stunning? What do you know about the physiological processes of pain? Because honestly, the animal rights movement is based ENTIRELY on the pathos mode of persuasion. Nobody has ever presented me any fact in regards to animal rights - only "How would you feel" and linking to disturbing videos meant to make me find it in my heart to stop eating meat.

I'm sorry, but you're going to have to get away from the "how would you feel" argument to persuade me anything.

How can I be "half-right" when this isn't a matter of right or wrong, but personal morality and MY worldview?

I'm sorry, but I kinda take offense to the insinuation that my view on responsible animal husbandry I've developed after years of seeking information and recollecting is "half right". :\ There is no "right" or "wrong".

I share views with Skidds. I'm an animal lover, rationalist, and plan to go to school to become a vet tech. I find it annoying when Peta is passed as 100% true in every case. I used to live by a chicken 'factory' and they NEVER were under fire for ANY type of cruelty. I also live near a dairy farm that was easily 200+ acres. The cattle was fat and healthy and were daily milked then set out to graze. Calves even normally stayed with the mothers in separate fields then taken once they were weened. I got my eggs and beef from my uncles farm. I grew up with these animals and would KNOW if there was any malpractice.

Would I eat my dog? Nah, I need her. Was she bred to be eaten? Once again..No. Dogs in these other countries are normally bred to be eaten, like cattle/pigs/rabbits. My dog was bred to be a protector, its her job. Not to be eaten.
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth
That can be my universe

isn't that how the Poi Dog went? I was made to be sort of food but family? then it got hybridized?
and I think there is a culture of people who eat their dog as a right of passage? but it is done in a ceremonious way?

I don't know if it was true but some dog-eating is also done for symbolism or medican. that eating the dog meat can help different thigns

I really have no idea, haven't heard anything about it other then some cultured do eat dog thinking it is a cure for somerthing. o.O Or good spiritually...

Fun fact: The ancestor of the modern day chihauhau was used as a food source for the people of what is now Mexico. May even have been the Aztec. The dogs were small, compact, and could withstand the hot climate. They even used them in some sacrifice. Same with Guinea pigs in New Guinea. Food and sacrifice.

Hmm,just found out about this...

Some animals do mean food.Without meat, people get unhealthy. It's a way of life for mostly every creature. Many people kill spiders, heck I scream and get my dad to kill it.Though, those pesky flies bother you even more don't they?Almost everyone that I know eat fish, people eat shrimp don't they?Well, your eating a sea-roach.My friends hunt deer, yes they do.But,they really do eat it,I've seen a mounted head in their old house before.Call it creul, but deer kill people from car accidents.I love deer.Even so,people kill and eat ostriches, yes ostriches. That,I didn't get and dissagreed with my friends about it as they munched on those ostrich jerky things.xD.

Actually, let me just put you right there, okapi 4ever.
Humans do NOT get unhealthy if they stop eating meat, IF they balance their diet out with other foods.
So you're saying, maybe if you stop eating meat you'd get unhealthy. But that's just because you don't know the right nutrients and vitamins that you need to balance your diet without meat produce.
Take a look at the vegetarians you know, if you know any. They aren't unhealthy, are they? And if they are, then it's because, like I said, they must not know the right foods to balance their diet.

My former teacher in primary school was a vegan. That means she wouldn't eat meat OR anything that came from the animals. She'd have soya milk instead of milk because milk came from a cow. She wouldn't eat eggs because they came from a chicken, etc etc.
And SHE was as fit as a fiddle! She'd join in on sports day with us and she wasn't thin either. She ate enough of the right things to balance her diet.

So. Not trying to be mean or anything, but people do NOT get unhealthy if they stop eating meat. :)
I'm British and yes, I have a cool accent.
