Okay so recently I've been trying to convince my mom on me having rats. It's an absolute no. Then I talked about a rabbit. That's also a no, since they are super expensive. It's been hard to find a pet that I can have myself, without my mom telling me no, especially since we have a Standard Poodle, and he is super expensive to take care of. Then I asked my mom if I would ever be able to own my own "unique" pet before going to college. She said, "What about a bird? I might consider that"
So I have some questions

How often do you have to clean the cage?

Do parakeets need a companion?

How long to parakeets live?

How big should the cage be?

Thanks to all of you who answer these questions. :D

So I have some questions

How often do you have to clean the cage? the best would be each day, or every 3 day...

Do parakeets need a companion? yes, atleast an companion of the same breed it does not Need to be different gender...males or only females together work too, but the best would be 4 birds or more^^ they are swarm animals...but they Need atleast one companion.

How long to parakeets live? 4-7, 8-40 years

How big should the cage be? thats a great question.....as big as possible...i would say 2x2x1m(or 2m^^)(LHW)...but it depends on how big the bird....1.50x1.50x0.80m or 2x1.80x1m could go too.... but im sorry i dont own a small bird so other here may be much bether for this question :)
....the best would be a large spacious aviary where a small flock can be kept in company. it is possible to keep a pair of birds in a big Cage all day, but Need something to do. and to Keep them alone...sure...not good... but they will be sluggish and unhealthy when they are alone/ single birds, if they are not let out to fly and socialize with other birds or atleast with there humans frequently.they Need other irds to be happy.

Thanks to all of you who answer these questions. :D

--> those are Minimum bether is to always go for the biggest, or when they are out of the Cage over the day then ist no Trouble when smaller, or a bird room!!!

Username: Bubbles.

How many birds do you own? ( if applicable ): I have four: a budgie called Lolly (My sister named him but everyone calls him Lozzy, Lollo or Bluey) , a cockatiel called Cleo and two Rosa Bourke's called Melony and Lotti.

How long have you had them?: I've had Cleo for about eight years, Lolly for 6 or 7 and Melony and Lotti for three years.

What brings you to the bird chat?: So I can talk to people who have similar interests in birds like me :) But also for some advise and new ideas. Like the foraging toys that were mentioned... Do people mind sharing ideas for making toys? It would be super handy to have some fun and interesting toys for them to play with for when I go back to school.
Thanks and nice to meet you all

What toys would my budgie like? I have a swinging hoop and a small disco ball with a bell, but he doesn't seem to play with them.
Any ideas? Preferably something that I can make myself.

so I have a question. I've been trying to get my birds to have a better diet, because all they eat is the seed mix stuff that we buy, but they won't eat anything else we give them. I've tried multiple types of fruits, and some vegetables, and even dried fruit, but they won't take any of it. any tips on how I can get them to like it?
