Overated Animals?

I would have to say Pitbull dogs and Bulldogs, and Pitbull or Bulldog type crosses. It has been in such a high demand in my area so much so that the majority of dogs sent to the pound are being killed off once a week or two. I have not been able to find some of my pups a good home.

Add to that, wolves may be spoken of often but they are being hunted off and their homes are being destroyed.

Though sharks are also being overly spoken of. Because of the shark movies, their population has declined a lot too... Gah!

I agree. I've owned both and prefer cats. Don't get me wrong, I love my dog. But I have problems with mess and bacteria and she is constantly covered in both.

I'm a canine artist, but grey wolves, domestic dogs, and red foxes are certainly some of the most overrated animals, as are domestic cats and big cats.

That being said, there's nothing wrong with an animal being overrated. Species like wolves and lions are charismatic- they're beautiful, powerful predators that have been prevalent in human culture throughout history, so I think it's only normal that people enjoy these types of animals.

This only becomes a real issue when the topic of conservation gets brought up- i.e. grey wolves aren't an endangered species, but your average person will probably put more effort into wolf "conservation" than into the conservation for say, a critically endangered bird or amphibian, because only the cute, fuzzy animals gain the attention.

I don't know if anyone has said this yet... But I feel like it's important.

'Bunnies', as an idea, not an animal. 'Bunnies' are the low maintenance, often unique looking or white, miniature creatures that hop around gracefully and cuddle with you. OVERRATED to Mars and back.

In reality, these creatures are house rabbits and are almost harder to care for and keep up with than a dog. I have five and I hate the hype that they are calm all the time and can't do any wrong. I've had so many shoes chewed through and paid so much damage repair on my house xD

They are long eared devils who don't need a whole holiday (easter).
And if it looks like I'm hating on the word bunny, it's because I am. No breed of rabbit is called a bunny(Dutch Bunny, Rex bunny, etc). I get that some people love the word, and thats fine, but it puts a stigma on these animals that often puts hundreds in shelters during Christmas and Easter.

I wanna say dogs.
I draw only canines constantly, but dogs. It's not that I don't like them, I just get annoyed with how some people talk about them. I have a cat and I think the only reason I'd get a dog is for protection or to teach tricks (because I love teaching them tricks, that's mainly it though)

And...llamas, narwhals.

Definitely wolves and foxes. I mean they are pretty much the official fursona animal right now. 3 out of 4 furries have fox or wolf fursona. I get the obsession with them, though. Wolves are powerful and foxes are cute. Another overrated animal is the lion. Most countries in Europe have lion in their COA, there are a lot of fables that contain lions, it's a mascot for some sport teams, etc.
