Happy New Year everyone! Wanted to do a post to show off some art, but thought I'd answer some of the questions. ^.^'

How do you go about designing characters? What do you start with? Colors, a personality?
Pick a base color, go from there! 99% of my designs are just me scribbling randomly for about half an hour.

What's your favorite color palette for a character?
Light browns, creams, and whites. Dunno why, but that's what catches my eye the most, and its what I usually default to when I'm designing.

Compared to last year, have you increased or decreased your character family?
increased whoops

How do you go about designing characters? What do you start with? Colors, a personality?
I usually try finding a palette I like then maybe changing around saturation and the like after creating it to see if maybe it would look better in a different color, lighter or darker. I tend not to create designs often but will sometimes takes pieces of designs from markings that occur naturally on animals.
What's your favorite name for a character you've ever seen? (Yours, or someone else's)
My name's tend to be really plain oml but I've definitely seen some really interesting and unique names (that I can't think of currently)
Show me a character of yours from an unusual species! Something besides feline and canine. Like, does anyone have any mice?

I love pastels ;v; my characters kind of go all over the place. No one's blindingly neon but I definitely have some pastels and then some really gray, dark babes as well.
Do you have any characters whose personalities are based off of someone you know irl?
I don't have anyone openly based off anyone else except a dog haha. He's 100% based of my ex's dog.

the thing is i'm kinda picky so i have trouble findings ones i like..
cause of that i'm interested in custom designs, i can offer pets from my rare trades group or an advent list if i need to! i also have some dA points & can do art trades too if need be, but i'm kinda busy so art trades are tentative!

i always start with a backstory, and then go in to sketches.. and when sketching i start with a body shape (how heavy i want them to be, how athletic, etc.) and then OUTFITS, cause clothes are my favorite things ever tbh...

no idea of the top of my head but i love russian names usually, they sound very pretty (though i usually pronounce them wrong..) and names that sound fairly normal but aren't actual names?? fake names?? hmm..

i have NONe of unusual species cause they're too hard to get art of whoops... but i used to have a bat character! they were lovely &

I go with theme more than anything, a concept, it's much more general and having a story of how it fits in with your character world really helps with the design and colors too!
