Welcome to The Battledome (A Pokémon Roleplay)

This is no time for holding back... you're in the Battledome, where legends are forged and pretenders are swiftly exposed. The chance to prove what you're made of is here - will you make the most of it?

South of the Galar region is a large island, about half the size of a typical region, known as Asura Island. This island is famous for two things - its vast shopping plaza of wares and treasures from regions all around the world, and... The Battledome. A large, dome-like building that has several smaller battle arenas within it, one for each type, and each section named for each type. For example, the Fire Dome and the Fairy Dome. In the centre is a larger battlefield, known as the Central Dome.

So... what is the Battledome?
Trainers from all over gather to compete in 1 v 1 tournaments in each of the 'type' domes, entering a single Pokémon of that dome's type (or the 'main' type for those Pokémon that are dual-typed). The winners of each tournament earn a ribbon for their Pokémon and are one step closer to entering the Central Dome tournament - for which trainers must enter with six Pokémon that have all earned a Battledome ribbon for their type. Numerous tournaments for each type take place simultaneously over the course of a month - each one taking approximately three days, Day One being the 1st round of 16 trainers, Day 2 being the quarter- and semi-finals, and Day 3 is the final and ribbon ceremonies. This is sometimes squeezed in two days, when days are needed to be freed up for the Central Dome tournament, or the Battledome Champion tournament. And the process begins again the next day. At the end of the month, the trainers that have a ribbon for each Pokémon in their team are able to enter the Central Dome tournament - a series of 6 v 6 battles until one is crowned the Battledome Champion. Additionally, once a year, all the Battledome Champions of the past year return to compete for the title of Battledome Champion of the Year.

And this is where you are. Ready to enter the tournaments, make new friends and rivals, explore the island and hopefully work towards becoming the next Battledome Champion. The question remains - will you make the most of it?

Asura Island

Postby Consulting_Angel » Tue Aug 20, 2024 10:04 am

After leaving the dock where the ferries dock when transporting trainers to and from the island, trainers are presented with the vast shopping plaza almost immediately, with many shops that sell wares and treasures from all regions around the world. Up ahead is a paved path, plus a few steps, leading up to the Battledome towards the centre of the island. There's also a few paths that lead off this main path, to lead to a large hotel that trainers stay in, as well as a Pokémon Centre for injured Pokémon to be healed up, and then also a few small training fields for trainers to have friendly battles and test out new skills before the tournaments. The rest of the island is almost untouched. There's a few small towns, and routes spread out towards Wild Areas, where several wild Pokémon can be found. Forests, a few caves, a glittering beach and much more can be explored on the island.

Pokémon & Trainer Notes
- No legendaries, mythicals, Ultra Beasts, etc.
- Only 1 shiny Pokémon per trainer.
- No fakemon (but your trainer can be from a made up region).
- Battling will be based more on the anime-style, so specific levels for Pokémon will be irrelevant.
- Trainers will be required to have a full six-Pokémon team for the Central Dome tournament (and to have their own ribbon from their type tournament, of course).
- It is encouraged that all the Pokémon in the team have different types, so that your character is not entering the same type tournament over and over again, but won't be forced.
- You can have a character that isn't competing in any of the tournaments (whether a tourist, perhaps a previous Battledome Champion, etc), but given the roleplay is meant to be based around the Battledome, you must also have at least one other character that is a competitor.

Rules
- As per usual, all of Tess' rules apply.
- No one- or two-liners, write about 5 or 6 sentences as a minimum for each character.
- Please use reasonable grammar, spelling and punctuation, so others can understand your posts.
- No romantic relations between your own characters.
- Try not to end up in 1x1 (more than six posts altogether of just you and the other person/character), let others get a chance to catch up and reply as well.
- Characters must be 18+, no upper age limit.
- Please disable signatures in the roleplay thread.
- If you have a question, then let me know!
- Keep OOC chat and character forms to the discussion thread.

Re: Welcome to The Battledome (A Pokémon Roleplay)

Postby Consulting_Angel » Mon Aug 26, 2024 7:34 am

It is currently the middle of the month, so about five of the individual type tournaments have taken place, and it is currently the end of the first few rounds of the next set of type tournaments, with the quarter- and semi-finals to happen tomorrow. It is mid-afternoon, a clear, mild day.

**To clarify**
Individual type tournaments are the smaller, 1v1 tournaments where trainers enter a single Pokémon to earn a ribbon for the main tournament. All type tournaments occur simultaneously, since trainers can only enter one at a time anyway. Dual-type Pokémon enter the 'primary'/first type that it has. For example, Bisharp is Dark/Steel - Dark is it's primary type, so it would be entered into the Dark-type tournaments.
This means only 5 of each type will have earned a ribbon so far, so keep that in mind if you wish to mention that some of your character's Pokémon have already earned a ribbon at this point. I will try to keep track, though (so please make sure to mention whether in-roleplay or ooc to make it count)!
Ribbons from a previous month's tournament cycle do not carry over.

Varius Pemton
52 | Male | Battledome Owner
Location: Training Grounds

"What a battle!" Varius exclaimed. He'd just finished a friendly battle against one of the previous year's Battledome Champions. He loved it when Battledome Champions of the past returned to Asura to see him or the Battledome, and especially loved to encourage them to rechallenge the Battledome tournament and re-earn their title of Battledome Champion. Many of them wouldn't return, finding that earning the title once was enough for them, which was fine. A few others would return, whether to watch the next round of tournaments, or to try and earn Champion of the Year this time, or even just prove to themselves that they still had what it took to make it as a Battledome Champion again.

Varius loved battling the Champions, being the owner and founder of the Battledome, as well as his own time, work and health, he couldn't always stop for one, so he stuck to accepting challenges only from Champions. He grinned as he returned his Hariyama, another battle won. "I can tell you've much improved. I look forward to what you do next." Varius praised the other trainer, and then once the two parted ways for the time being, he started to leave the training grounds, watching as crowds of trainers left the Battledome - another round of tournaments done for the day. How time flew... it felt like it was only yesterday that the Battledome opened for the first time. It had only been him and a handful of other competitors, but it had been so much fun. And although it took a while to get to where it was today, Varius had loved every moment. He was a little lost in thought as he watched the trainers walking by, not really paying much attention to those around him.

Ashton left the Battledome, alongside many other trainers. With it being the end of the first set of rounds, tomorrow, he would be competing in the Water-type quarter-finals with Milotic. And then hopefully be on his way to another ribbon. So far, only his Seviper and Flygon had earned a ribbon this month - it had taken him twice to get Flygon a ribbon - and this was his second try with getting Milotic to win. Last time, he'd managed to get all the way to the finals, so this time... well, hopefully this he'd win. He'd missed the first set of tournaments for the month, so he had started out behind. At least there would be four more opportunities to get the rest of the ribbons he needed... but if he lost again this round, then it was going to be tight. And if he didn't get through to the Central Dome tournament this time, he wasn't sure what he was going to do. Take a couple of months to train, perhaps? He couldn't imagine having to start from square one again, which was something the majority of trainers had to do after each tournament cycle. He pushed it from this mind, refusing to dwell on it much longer - he had to focus on the now, not the future. He would figure it out if he got to it.

Ashton stepped to one side, to stop walking, the other trainers walking by him to get to wherever they wanted to go. He had the rest of the day free, and he wasn't sure what to do. There wasn't a huge amount of time left in the day, but enough for a quick something. Or perhaps he could get food first..,

Juliet Rydell

Juliet was one of the first out of the Battledome for the day. The Electric-type tournament that she'd entered with her Ampharos didn't have many entrants this time around. Still enough to require a quarter-final, but that had been whittled down fairly quickly. So, the Electric Dome had let out a bit earlier than the others would. This was not Juliet's first time at the Battledome. She'd been here about six months ago, and had got to the end of the tournament cycle at the end of the month with only three ribbons. Only half required to enter the Central Dome tournament. It had been an extremely disappointing time, and she'd almost considered giving up and not bothering to return to Asura and re-enter. But, she'd trained, worked closely with her Pokémon, and taken the time to figure out some sort of strategy. And now she was back. She'd arrived just before the end of the previous month's tournament cycle, so she could watch the Central Dome tournament, and also to ensure she was here for the very first round of tournaments at the start of the month.
It had been much better for her this time around. Already, she'd earned four ribbons. Her Shelgon, Primarina, Leafeon and Alolan Persian had all gotten ribbons. It'd taken twice to get one for Leafeon, but they'd managed it together. If all went well, then soon she'd only have one ribbon to get, and once she'd got that, she may well have about a week to spare before the Central Dome tournament, which was an exciting prospect. She'd not had a lot of downtime since she'd arrived in Asura, so it would be nice to be able to get some time to explore - but her first focus would be on the Battledome, that's what she was here for, after all.

So, Juliet was just outside one of the hotels that many of the visiting trainers and sometimes even tourists would stay in. It had to be big, given how many visitors there were, and the fact that many of them stayed for around a month. She sat on the low wall near the entrance, next to her, Ampharos, watching as a crowd of trainers began leaving the Battledome.

Cliff Blackwell | 22 | Male | Trainer | Outside Hotel | Tags: Ashton, Open
Cliff was one of the many trainers who had left the Battledome. He had unfortunately just lost a Grass Type Tournament with his Lilligant to a surprise Tropius. He wasn't too mad about it though, he never really did get upset at losing. Besides he figured he had plenty of time to finish getting his ribbons anyway. He had already gotten a ribbon for Kingambit, Archaludon, Gliscor and Volcarona so he just needed two more. Besides, as much as a shame it was that he lost, at the very least he could spend the rest of this set of tournaments relaxing and getting to meet other people. He walks out from the Battledome with his Lilligant, and looks around the crowds to decide who to talk to. "It's alright Lily, we'll get 'em next time!". As he looks around, he notices Ashton standing to the side, and decides to approach him with a friendly smile. "Hello there, I don't think I've met you before! My name's Cliff, what's yours?"

Chadwick Aroyo | 25 | Male | Trainer | Outside Hotel | Tags: Juliet, Open
Chadwick steps out of the Battledome having been victorious in yet another battle in the Fighting Dome. Only two more of his Pokemon needed ribbons, his Annihilape and his Kommo-o, and he was well on his way to getting the ribbon he needed for Annihilape. Since his entire team was comprised of Fighting types, most of them were entered into the Fighting competition to get medals, with the exception of his Blaziken and Kommo-o, who would have to fight in the Fire and Dragon competitions respectively. Talking of the Dragon one, he had heard about a trainer who had won the Dragon competition with a Shelgon, an impressive feat, even in his eyes. He strolls right past most of the other trainers, darting his eyes around for the trainer of this Shelgon. Eventually he fixes his eyes on Juliet, who was sitting on a wall, recognising her from what people had been saying about her. "Hey you there! Miss Shelgon lady!" He says directly towards Juliet, approaching her. "I hear that that little Shelgon of yours is quite the prodigy? How about a friendly little battle huh? I've just GOT to see this legendary little Shelgon in action!" He places his hand on his belt of Pokeballs, as if he was choosing who to send out first already.

Azazel Lutea : 28 : Male : Training Grounds : ~open
Seker was rapidly jabbing at nothing but air as Azazel and him exited the battledome. It was a little unfortunate that he was at a bit of a disadvantage in a pool of pokemon that were predominantly special attackers -- this was Azazel's third time in the psychic tournament this month with him -- but for the first time they'd made it to the quarter-finals and despite the fact that the tournament had wrapped up for the day his gallade was clearly still raring to go. Apparently he felt a bit threatened by Freyja and Lethes getting their ribbons first try.

At the pace they were going he wasn't super confident about their ability to make it to the final tournament this month but that was fine. They were all having fun at least.

As Azazel began steering them towards the nearest training grounds to work out some of that extra energy he pulled out his phone, checking any messages that had come in while he was battling and making a mental note of any that were actually... important. A couple from his parents that he made a mental note to get to eventually, some from a few former classmates that were about nothing much at all and... ah, that one was about his research grant. Traveling around wasn't cheap and there wasn't a huge demand for documentation and research of ghost pokemon folklore so that one was pretty important.

He probably should pay more attention to where he, and more importantly his antsy pokemon, were going but almost immediately he was tapping a -- painfully lengthy -- response as quickly as he could.

Grunt||33||Female||Trainer||Outside Battledome||Tagged: Open
It was Grunt's second run through the Poison Dome, which wasn't something she came in expecting to do. She'd apparently misread the listings when she entered, so instead of getting to run Crobat through the Flying Dome she got to double-up on this one. Not that she was complaining, she had plenty of experience with Poison-types, and her initial run through with Seviper had given her a pretty good idea of what to expect from her competitors. Between it, Yanmega, and Raticate, her team had three ribbons to its name, and hopefully she could pull out another win here and get over the halfway mark. There were only four tournaments left after this one, and while she didn't anticipate any problems getting Krookodile a ribbon Meowstic would be an uphill battle. She didn't have a secondary typing to shore up her weaknesses, and most Psychic types generally had a way of dealing with other Psychic types. She'd already had to run the Normal and Ground Domes twice, she wanted to make sure she had as many tries at the Psychic Dome as possible.

The ex-gangster strolled down the path leading from the Battledome, Seviper coiled lazily around her neck. The poison snake preferred to be out of its ball whenever possible, and on a day like this she wasn't about to say no. As she walked, Grunt let her eyes roam freely, taking in the crowd of trainers flowing around her. There was still some time left in the day, if she wanted to get something else done, but she was content just to people-watch for now.

Giselle Minnos- f- 20- Unova- Serpentine (Serperior), Lila (Liepard), Ziggy (Zebstrika), Ereena (Excadrill), Yami (Zoroark), Bearry (Beartic)- bi; Juliet- Amos x May: Cora and Ellis, (Giselle), Irre, Kori and Katie- Tags: Juliet, Chadwick

The pretty strawberry blonde, brown eyed girl felt so happy, as three of her Pokémon had actually managed to get their ribbons. She was wearing her pink and white cap, as she stepped out of the Battledome with her Liepard, who she was sure would win soon. That meant her Zebstrika, Excadrill, Beartic, and now Lila were the four that had won ribbons so far, bringing her one step closer. Shaking her head, she smoothed down her t shirt, and stared at the freckles on her arms…freckles she had because of her reddish blonde hair. It was even more red now than when she’d been ten or even twelve years old. She shook her head over this fact, adjusting her fingerless gloves then looked at her fashion boots and smiling a bit. Shaking her head, she noticed two people near a wall, and heard one of them asking for a practice or mock battle from the other. She tilted her head, then made her presence known, saying “Hello there, don’t mind me…but I’d like to watch your friendly battle, that is…if she agrees.”

She paused a moment, saying “Um…sorry…I should probably ask your names. My name is Giselle Minnos.”

Azriel Remonn- m- 26- Paldea- Kuroko (shiny Umbreon), Nina (Dachsbun), Anni (Mabostiff), Peypey (Persian), Hydra (Hydrapple), Pyrros (Pyroar)- homosexual; Ashton, Azazel- father x mother- Tags: Ashton, Cliff

The beautiful and cute but somewhat handsome slender and shorter male was looking for the hotel, as he’d only just arrived here. He was taking a vacation, able to afford to do so, and had wanted to come to this island because of the shopping center and Battledome. The golden-tan skinned and longer lashed brown and dark gray heterochromatic eyed one sighed a bit. He shook his purple-black haired head, then brushed at said hair a bit, which was wavy ended and reached beyond his shoulders. He smoothed down his purple and blue tye dye shirt, then finally saw the hotel and sighed with relief. He headed for it, finding two guys out there, one of which was quite attractive but he wasn’t going to say that…and he stared down at his fashion boots a moment.

He quickly lifted his gaze, and focused on the two males there, saying “Erm…hello…sorry to interrupt…is this the hotel?” He immediately felt stupid, of course it was the hotel…he was pretty sure the island only had one hotel like this on it.

Avery hastily left the Battledome, her usually bright eyes clouded with a hint of frustration. It was already the middle of the month. She'd arrived here full of excitement and ambition, being such a young competitor, but reality has hit hard on her. With only two ribbons earned, one by Nebula the Altaria in the Dragon Dome and another by Jupiter the Golurk in the Ground Dome, she can't shake the disappointment that's been gnawing at her. She had entered Starlight the Clefable and Laika the Lucario in their own domes but... Both had been defeated.

"Two ribbons..." She muttered under her breath, holding Laika's pokeball in her hand, "we've worked too hard to stop here, huh buddy?"

It was time to get really serious, and that meant training. She headed towards the training grounds, passing other trainers and keeping her keen ears open to hear of their victories or strategies for the dome. The atmosphere, which was so originally so motivating, now felt a little stifling. She hates to admit it, but part of her is envious of those who've made faster progress. She had to remind herself that they weren't out of the game yet.

As Avery quickly made her way towards the training ground, she almost ran straight into some guy on his phone. A tough-looking Gallade at his side. Still running in place, she turned, said a quick, "S-sorry about that! Training to get to, y'know?" before continuing towards the grounds. She felt like that would come back to bite her later, but this was important to her! She had to do this right now, immediately, or her time here would be wasted. Or at least, that's what it felt like.

Once she finally reached the training grounds, she stopped in place for a moment, panting. Okay, running here, bad idea. She'll remember that for next time. But now, Avery pulled out Starlight and Laika's pokeballs and released both of them before also retrieving Void the Mightyena and Comet the Reuniclus' pokeballs and released them as well. She watched with a smile as they materialized. Void let out a loud howl and raced over, bouncing like a puppy, his tail wagging excitedly. "Ready to train boy?" She asked, giving him a good big scratch.

Varius Pemton
52 | Male | Battledome Owner
Location: Outside Battledome
Tagged: Grunt
Varius watched as trainers milled about or moved to get to various places - mostly either the hotel, or the training grounds. Some had disappointed expressions, and others were joyful, a glimmer of hope as they were one step further in getting their next ribbon. He knew well enough by now how to read Battledome challenger's expressions. He hoped to be able to encourage all types of trainers, whether to try again in a future cycle of tournaments, or to keep pushing in the current one, he had a genuine interest for them to succeed. Of course, having everyone be successful in the Battledome was simply not possible, but it was still nice to encourage trainers to show and live up to their full potential. He also just enjoyed casual conversation with the competitors in general, as it gave him a good idea of the vibe and thoughts that competitors had about the Battledome.

As he looked over the slowly-dissipating crowd, Varius noted a trainer, a woman with a Seviper around her neck, who seemed to also be people-watching. Varius approached her, stopping a short distance away, where he turned his attention to the other trainers that were milling about or just leaving the Battledome. "So many different trainers. Who knows who you'll be battling against next?" he commented, before glancing sideways towards the woman, a warm smile on his face, "Hoping to make it far?"

Ashton Delaire
22 | Male | Trainer
Location: Outside Hotel

Ashton was looking forward to some rest now. It'd been a trying few rounds, and if he wanted himself and his Pokémon well rested for tomorrow, then he was going to have to make sure he got plenty of it. He made his way towards the hotel he was staying at, pausing at the side for a few moments to find his keycard - which he quickly found in his bag. Before he could start walking again, though, he heard a voice and saw someone else approaching him. Ashton internally groaned. Not only was he now being spoken to by a stranger, the stranger was also... talkative. Great. Hopefully he could make this quick - maybe it was just a quick introduction and seeing where he was at with the current cycle of the Battledome. "I'd be surprised, given there's so many people. Ashton." he said, his tone a little cold and uninterested.
He'd been hoping to get away with just that, but the two of them were soon approached by another male, asking whether the building they were stood near was the hotel. Ashton raised an eyebrow, unable to stop himself from scoffing a little. He glanced at the building, and then back to the new guy. "It's one of them. Typically the one Battledome challengers stay in." Ashton replied. From the looks of this other guy, he didn't look like a Battledome challenger, and he was far too late to enter the current cycle anyway.

Juliet Rydell
21 | Female | Trainer
Location: Outside Hotel
Tagged: Chadwick, Giselle
Juliet had been about to get up and go into the hotel, but was soon approached by another trainer that, even before he'd spoken, she could tell was quite full of himself. That wasn't going to stop her from being friendly, though. What was more surprising to her, though, was the fact that word had clearly gotten around about her winning a ribbon with her Shelgon. Not the most typical choice, and she knew it was probably a surprising choice given most of the rest of her team and the fact she had quite a feminine appearance and dressed as such. But she liked to be surprising.
Anyway - this guy was challenging her to a battle, determined to see her Shelgon in action, so Juliet stood up, with a warm smile. "Well, thank you. And - well, Shelgon won against other dragon-types, so... sure - let's see how he stacks up with you." she replied, accepting the challenge. She then narrowed her eyes slightly at the guy, as though thinking about whether she recognised him or not. "Oh, hey, you're that guy dominating the Fighting Dome at the moment, aren't you?" she asked.

Before she could start going over towards the training grounds for the battle, though, the two were approached by another young woman, who'd evidently overheard the challenge and was asking to watch. Juliet shrugged, smiling warmly, "Sure, I don't mind. We were about to go over to the training grounds." she replied. She didn't mind having an audience, not as if she could stop anyone from watching anyway. As the other woman introduced herself, she replied, "Juliet Rydell."
