Rider's Generation(CLOSED)

Postby ☾ ℜε∨αη ☽ » Mon Nov 24, 2014 2:17 pm

"A century has passed since Eragon and Saphira left Alagaësia for good. The Riders have risen to power once again. In fact, it's a common sight to see a dragon soaring across the sky. But are you a Rider? Come, we have plenty of eggs. Why don't we see if one hatches for you? My name is Sardonyx, by the way. Sardonyx Crimson. I'm in charge of the Rider's Academy here in Gil'ead."

The Dragon Riders were a coalition of elves and dragons formed at the end of Du Fyrn Skulblaka to forge peace and order between the elves and dragons. The Riders were created because treaties between the two races would prove useless to stop fighting: a signed piece of paper meant nothing to a dragon. So, an irrevocable bond was wrought by the elves and the dragons; the elves provided the structure of the spell and the dragons provided the strength, thus creating the Dragon Riders. When a fleet of humans sailed across the sea thousands of years later, they too were added to the elite order of the Dragon Riders. The role of the Riders became more than uniting the Elves and Dragons: they became keepers of the peace throughout the land of Alagaësia, and were respected and honored by the people they served. There were both male and female Riders, all of whom were able to use magic. The Riders not only were peacekeepers, they were healers, scholars and the strongest magicians throughout the land besides Shades.

Dragons were an ancient race of sentient creatures native to the land of Alagaësia. While most roamed free and did not commonly associate with the civilizations of other races, a significant number were the mounts and life-long companions of the Dragon Riders. There were only five known dragons left in Alagaësia during the Rider War: Shruikan, Saphira, Thorn, Firnen, (though Saphira, Firnen, and Thorn were still eggs) and Glaedr. Glaedr was the only dragon (other than Shruikan) alive at the start of the Rider War, however, he was killed by Galbatorix (through Murtagh and Thorn), and henceforth resided in his Eldunarí, which was in Eragon's possession. However, unbeknownst to everyone, there were still eggs in existence, hidden on Vroengard, the ancient home of the Riders.

Races Eligible to be Riders

The Human Race was not native to Alagaësia; along with the elves and the Urgals, humans came from some unknown continent across the Western Sea in ages past. The first twenty humans landed in what later became Surda; however, according to Orik Thrifksson, these humans merely came to visit. It is held among the dwarves that "the humans had completely forgotten us by the time they returned in 7203 A.C., except for vague stories about hairy-men-of-the-mountains that preyed upon children in the night." In the preface of Heslant the Monk's Domia Abr Wyrda, it is said that these humans who visited in 5596 A.C. exchanged gifts with the dwarves, then left.

The Elves were a race of beings who migrated to Alagaësia from Alalëa in the distant past; around 5217 AC. Humanoid in appearance, they had noticeably angular features, slanting eyebrows, and pointed ears, and a feline face; they were generally tall and always slim, and were, according to legend, the fairest people of the land, partly because of the physical transformation caused by the dragons' influence on them (and were thus called the Fair Folk). Most elves were more gifted with magic than the other races, and had an innate knowledge of their true names, thus making them more powerful than other races.

Dwarves were one of the only races native to Alagaësia. Known as lovers of rock and stone, dwarves had a long lifespan and often lived in large, underground cities in the Beor Mountains. One of the most famous dwarf cities was located in Farthen Dûr. The city itself, Tronjheim, was the secret hiding place of the Varden up until the Battle under Farthen Dûr. The dwarves had many clans such as the Dûrgrimst Az Sweldn rak Anhûin and the Dûrgrimst Ingeitum. With the fall of the Empire the Dwarves were accepted into the Dragon Riders along with the Urgals.

The Urgals were a race of sentient creatures that inhabit Alagaësia. In the first book they had been forced by Durza into the service of Galbatorix. They are considered evil by most humans, but are not inherently so. Though most are uneducated in the normal definition of the word, they make up for this with brute strength, as well as exceptional combat and commanding skills. They were used as expendable "shock troops" by Galbatorix's army. The Urgal language is simple and guttural. Only a few phrases are known to outsiders and most of those are related to war and combat. Angela, the herbalist, is one of few who can speak their language. As with other races, they are capable of using magic, to the ignorance of both humans and dwarves. With the fall of the Empire the Urgals were made Dragon Riders along with the Dwarves.

Major Places in Alagaësia

Carvahall

Carvahall was a tiny village, home to around 300 people, located at the top of the Anora River in the northern part of The Spine in Palancar Valley. The village was the only settlement in the valley aside from Therinsford, and was rarely visited by anyone save for merchants and trappers. Most of the village was made up of stout log houses with low roofs and wide porches on their fronts for talking and conducting business. Every year, the Traders would come to town and sell their wares to the villagers.

The Spine

The Spine was a mountain range that ran down the west coast of Alagaësia. It had only one major pass, along the Toark River, which isolated the coast. Most people in the Empire feared the Spine and the danger it represented, especially since Galbatorix lost nearly half his army in it against the Urgals, during his campaign against the Dragon Riders. After this incident, hardly anyone dared to venture near to this dangerous mountain range.

Teirm

Teirm is a beautiful city set on the edge of the ocean. A major port for sea trade, the citizens have been forced to deal with repeated attacks by pirates and Urgals. As a result, after Teirm was entirely burned down by one such assault, it was rebuilt out of stone, with a giant white wall encircling it.

Gil'ead

Gil'ead serves two purposes for Alagaësia. The first is a fishing and trapping center where hunters can replenish supplies and sell their pelts and meat before returning to the wild. The second is as a garrison and training grounds for soldiers and Dragon Riders.

Dras-Leona

Aside from the capitol, Dras-Leona is the largest city in Alagaësia. A broad, rambling city, it was originally founded as a place of worship for Helgrind but has evolved into the land's most important trade nexus, handling both of the good travelling both north and south. The heart of the city is surrounded by packed yellow mud.

The Hadarac Desert

The kingdom effectively ends at the Hadarac Desert, which fills the heart of Alagaesia. Without the Dragon Riders, it was simply too difficult for any ruler to maintain a government over the vast expanse of land. Even though the Riders have returned, no King or Queen wants to mess with the desert.

Du Weldenvarden

Du Weldenvarden was a massive forest that covered Northern Alagaësia. The elven capital of Ellesméra was hidden deep within the forest, as were the ancient elves that inhabited it.

Ellesméra

Ellesméra is the capital of the elven kingdom and the residence of the Elven Queen, Arya. It has been protected by Gilderien the Wise since the time of Du Fyrn Skulblaka. It was also home to Oromis, last of the old Rider Order, and Rhunön, the maker of the original Rider's swords. Ellesméra is located deep in the forest of Du Weldenvarden, magically sung entirely from a pine forest. The trees would grow into the shape the singer desired, and would naturally blend into the environment.

Farthen Dûr

Farthen Dûr was discovered by the dwarves' first king, Korgan, while tunneling for gold. Farthen Dûr is as tall and wide as any of the Beor Mountains and is completely hollow. In the center of Farthen Dûr, the dwarves built their greatest city, Tronjheim, Helm of Giants. Tronjheim is over a mile high, shaped like a cone, and carved out of the purest marble.

The Beor Mountains

The Beor Mountains are the tallest mountains in Alagaesia. They are over ten miles high; so high, that as you approach them, all you see is a giant wall of ice and snow before you, with a tiny band of trees near the ground. It's in these mountains that the dwarves live, where they believe they were created out of living granite by their god Helzvog.

Ilirea

Urû'baen (Translation: the downfall of the wise) was the capital city of the Empire and the center of Galbatorix's kingdom. The king rarely left Urû'baen, except during times of great need. Until it was taken by Galbatorix and the Forsworn during the Dragon War, Urû'baen had been an elven city named Ilirea and then the capital of the Broddring Kingdom. Oromis was said to have lived here before the Dragon War, and had made a Fairth of it the day he fled the city before Galbatorix took control. After Galbatorix was defeated, the name of the city was changed back to Ilirea.

Rules

...All site rules apply.
...If you join, please post at least four times a week. I want this role play to be as active as possible. Just let me know if you can't RP.
...Be at least semi-literate. Three good sentences, good spelling, good grammar, and proper punctuation. Also please post in the third person.
...Drama is encouraged. Just don't do anything too big without permission.
...Don't be gory or nasty about things.
...Be courteous to others. Don't fight OOC. If you have a problem let me know.
...Keep genders and sides even. Don't play five girls in the Academy.
...Fade or time-skip when situations get inappropriate.
...Every dragon must have a Rider. I will not accept wild dragons, for it is stated in the books that they are unable to communicate like the civilized dragons.
...Eggs are accepted, as long as they get a Rider eventually.
...Each dragon and Rider have a special bond. Therefore, I'd prefer it if each pairing were played by the same user.
...To prove that you've read the rules AND that you know the Inheritance Cycle, put the answer to this question in the 'Other' section of your form: Who becomes ruler after Galbatorix is defeated?

Username: G R I M O I R E
Name: Sardonyx Crimson
Age: 27
Gender: Female
Rank: Academy Director
Race: Human
Personality: On many occasions when she met others, she was known to be eccentric, witty, and filled with knowledge. In other circumstances, however, she is known to have a sharp tongue with enough of a filter to keep her out of trouble. She can be very protective of her students, absolutely refusing to have them encounter danger unless she believes they are ready. Even through all of this, she is also very forgetful to the point where she would probably leave her head behind if it wasn't attached.
Dragon: Nazaroth
Nazaroth is an extremely large dragon, and he is still growing. He currently about the size Shruikan was on the day of his death. The dragon seems to have the best of both worlds when it comes to a personality. He's extremely wise, therefore cunning, therefore persuasive. He does have a mischievous side to him, but only through his humor and very small actions. Sardonyx and Nazaroth always seem to act in sync, making them a perfect match. Nazaroth is extremely protective of Sardonyx, and would hunt her down to the ends of the earth if the need to ever came. Stealth is not one of his strong-suits due to his size, but his brute strength and scorching fire breath can be enough to demolish one of the former towers of Helgrind without their wards.
Other: I won't be giving away the answer....
