Hollie smiled slightly at his response, extremely pleased to know someone else like her. "I was only going to climb if you were some person who hunts Mer." she said with a small half shrug. Looking him over, she stepped forward, falling in place by his side. "And I'm not normally that clumsy." she muttered. "I just wasn't paying attention at the time."

Looking up at him when he asked how long she knew she'd been a Mer, she shrugged. "Um, just over a month ago. I've lived in London almost my entire life, and my mum refused to let me join swim teams or anything. Her work kept her in America a lot, so we just decided to move here. This cabin," she pointed up to the pretty little cottage, "Is where my mom was when she first heard my Da sing." she sighed, her eyes clouded with sadness and a hint of determination. "He went missing the day after I met him, and my mum forbade me to come to the ocean, but now that I know what I am...I can't." smiling apologetically, she shrugged.

"Sorry for pouring my life's story out on you. I've just never met another Mer before..." wonder filled her voice a bit and she blinked. "Anyways, how long have you known?"

Miles allowed a tight grin when McKay appeared. He'd heard of this particular Mer before. Everyone said she was extremely dangerous, and half I'd he Rebels weren't sure whether or not to trust her. At the moment, it seemed he had no choice.

Flicking his tail back in forth in agitation, the male allowed Sapphire to push him back a few feet, before shoving her hands off of his shoulder. "For a defender who so swift, you would think you would have caught on by now that it's not nice to try and chase two Rebels out by yourself." he said shaking his head, an amused grin on his face. He didn't miss how the Defender held herself. It was almost as if she were greater than everyone else. Miles snorted softly, causing a small blur of bubbles to begin to make their way to the surface.

Swimming forward again, until he was literally an inch from Sapphire's face, he leaned forward quickly and kissed her, before whipping around and swimming away, putting plenty of distance between himself and the other Mer, while hollering over his shoulder: "MCKAY! SWIM!" Bubbles followed in his wake, and a stream of the underwater air rose up every time he laughed. Oh, how he loved pulling pranks! He tossed another glance over his shoulder, to see if McKay had followed; he certainly hoped she did, because the Defender was going to be one angry Mer by the time she realized what had happened ||@Buzz~ that's what he had been planning from the begining, so he could quickly get away while she was stunned. XD hope you don't mind! (:

"Come on, I'll show you." Ryder grinned, holding out his hand for Shiloh. He gingerly took her fingers in his, leading her towards the endless expanse of ocean that stretched out before them. Her face was a bit unsure, but he was confident. He had never trusted anyone in his life like he trusted his sister-in-law, Shiloh. She was the closest thing to a normal family that he would ever have, him being what he was. Grinning from ear to ear, he tugged her along behind him in the direction of the shore. As he neared the tide's mark, where water met land, he turned to face her. "Okay, just wait here, and watch. He told her softly, heading off down the sandy shore, his feet leaving prints in their wake, only to be disinigrated by the waves. Heading over a rocky preface, clambering gracefully up the cliff-face, out of Shiloh's view, Ryder couldn't believe what he was doing. Did he actually plan to go through with it? Showing her? Shaking his doubts from his mind, he headed up to the top of the little cavern's face, standing among the rocks. Taking a deep breath, although it was pointless, he dove from the stones down into the depths of the waves. He spun underneath the cold water once he entered the tides, shifting into his Mer form, a sterling silver tail now where his feet had been.
Image
Smiling underneath the water, he swam eagerly back to the surface, his eyes roving the land in front of him for Shiloh. He saw her, eyes wide, heading toward him, and laughed. "You're afraid? That's new. I don't think I've ever seen you afraid of anything before." He grinned, although he could see his efforts at clearing away her suspicion had failed. He sighed, swimming a bit closer to the shore. As Shiloh slipped off her sandals, tossing her bag to the side, she began to walk into the shallows of the ocean, and Ryder urged her foreward. As she finally got close enough, Ryder told her to stop. He knew how some of the Mer were, so hostile towards humans. He didn't want her to get too deep, as he knew that there were probably a few Defenders sticking close to the shore, in case of humans. If Shiloh ever got hurt, he wouldn't forgive himself. He smiled. "Look." He did a little spin, in the water, splashing his tail up in the air for his sister-in-law to see. Her eyes widened, and his grin only grew. She hadn't believed him when he told her his secret, but now? He had proof. He raised an eyebrow, feeling enerized; hyped. He wanted to swim. "Will you be okay here, on your own? I feel like diving." Shiloh nodded, motioning him to go. He nodded, swimming farther out into the water. "Kay, but be careful. Don't go too deep." He told her, giving her a last concerned glance, before heading into the depths of the ocean.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Image
Her eyes wide, Shiloh watched her step-brother dive down into the water, after exposing his silver tail to her moments before. She was speechless. She had so many questions! Watching him dive deeper into the water, and then disappear altogether, she headed back to shore, walking slowly along the water's edge, her mind on the mermaids. No. Not mermaids. What had Ryder called them? Mer. That was it. The Mer. She smiled to herself, trying to take all of it in. They were real? They were real. She laughed to herself, skipping a stone out across the water's surface. She wondered how many there were. A hundred? A thousand? She would probably never know. Heading out deeper into the water, Shiloh saw a rock jutting out in between the waves, and walked over to it, planning to rest there until Ryder returned from whatever it was he was doing beneath the waves. Smiling, Shiloh sat down on the smooth stone surface, letting her legs float up to the surface of the water above her, as she was sitting about chest-deep in the water. She let her head lay back, soaking her chocolate brown hair, its strands floating out behind her. Letting her eyes flutter closed sleepily, she smiled. Shiloh could understand why the Mer liked it here so much, and were so protective over their land. It was so peaceful and beautiful here; serene. She wouldn't mind being here everyday, as the Mer were.
Image
Raising her eyelids after a few minutes, Ryder still not back yet, Shiloh decided that she might as well swim. Hell, she was at the beach, wasn't she? And besides, her shorts and silk top were already soaked, so why not? Standing from her spot on the stone, Shiloh stood up on the rock, diving in, underneath the waves. She smiled underwater, seeing a few fish scatter as they saw her, a little farther out. After a few minutes, she had to swim up again for air, shaking the water out of her eyes. She grinned, feeling the cold liquid run down her face. She loved the water; always had. She was in pretty deep now; around 12 feet. But, she doubted that Ryder's other Mer friends were as bad as he said they were. And besides, she wouldn't be afraid of them. Mermaids? Oh yea, terrifying. She rolled her eyes to herself, floating on her back on the surface of the water, letting her eyes close again. This was the life. She kicked her feet a couple times, to keep herself afloat as she drifted across the ocean's surface.

Below the Surface - Ava Likewheather

Postby Jalista » Mon Jun 11, 2012 6:51 am

Image
Image

Why Hello There!

name >> Ava Likewheather.
gender >> Female.
age >> Fifteen.
species >> Mer.
loyalty >> Defender. Ava fears humans, and thinks they should stay on land where they belong.
sexual orientation >> Hetrosexual. Ava is definitely attracted to only boys.
crush >> No one. Romance is the last thing on Ava's mind.
relationship status >> Single. Ava hasn't met any boys who are defender Mers.

Mirror, Mirror.

hair color >> Black. Ava's hair is not at all remarkable, simple ebony and straight.
eye color >> Blue. Ava's eyes are a light, crystal blue that contrasts well with her dark hair.
tail color >> Purple. Ava's tail is a mix of Lavender and Blue, but in darker hues.
skin color >> Well Tanned. Who said a Mer couldn't sun herself on the rocks every now and then?
tattoos / piercings / scars >> Seaweed Arm Tattoo. Ava has long forgotten how she got the gold, blue and green tattoo of seaweed wrapping up along her right arm up to her elbow, and she doesn't really care if she forgot.
basic description >> Ava is lithe and slender, with the curved body any respectable female Mer has and long black hair. Her face is soft, giving her a very innocent look. Her wide eyes are a bright crystal blue, ruining the soft image of her face slightly with their sharp gaze. She is very slender, and her arms are long. Her tail is sleek, with blue and dark lavender scales giving it an ocean-purple hue. Her fin is flat like most, with light blue webbing. She is five feet four inches in length, rather short for a mer, but she makes up for it in her speed. Her small size enables her to move quickly through places, which isn't very helpful, considering the open expanses that makes up the Defender's territory. Her black hair isn't actually that long, just reaching to her elbows. When she gets out of the water, it curls up instead of staying straight. She is well tanned, because she sits on rocks and sleeps a lot.

Delving Deeper.

personality >> Ava is energetic and bouncy, and can't really sit still. Her constant energy is tiresome for some, and it comes along with constant chatter. She is almost always moving around and talking, because she just enjoys it. Early in the morning, she wanders around and her head is in the clouds. She is definitely not a morning Mer. She doesn't notice much, either, hence her oblivious manner. She always seems to be happy, unless in the presence of humans. She sees the glass as half-full, and can be expected to keep everyone in high spirits if something is going wrong. She tries to see the best in Mers, even if they don't really like her, and is inclined to help. She likes seeing others happy, it makes her happy too, and can be expected to spout random jokes in tense situations. When she is angry, mostly at humans, she tries to be mean. Unfortunately for her, she's not the kind of person that insults come easily to. All in all, Ava is happy, oblivious, and stubbornly caring.
history >> Ava was raised in the depths of Ingo, where her mother taught her about the monstrosities of humans. Every year, her mother would take her to the surface to prove her point, showing scenes of destruction caused by humans. By the time she was thirteen, and Ingo had dissolved into chaos, she was stubbornly set on defeating the humans. She practiced luring fisherman to their demise, but is still working on it, because she doesn't do it very well. When she was fourteen, her mother disappeared, and Ava thinks the humans did it, fueling her dislike even more.
other >> Hope you don't mind me changing up the lay out a little!

Sapphire Claire Bonadair||19||Mer||Defender||Furious||Chasing||Tagged: Miles/Mckay
She stared at them both defiantly, especially when the boy pushed her. Small bubbles of anger began to boil in her system. "Good thing I'm not nice huh." she said through clenched teeth. The only thing on her mind right now was tearing apart these two Rebels, but they were just like her. 'It's Mers like them that made your family go away.' She reminded herself, all at once every bit of her thinking that they were like her was erased. They weren't like her, they weren't. As he crept forward she held her ground, no one moved her. But when he kissed her she instinctevly snapped backwards and remained floating still for a few seconds, stunned by his actions. How dare he have the odasity to do that! When the inital shock left her all that was left was pure, clean fury. Every muscle in her body tightened. "I'm going to feed you to the fish!" she shouted, rage pouring off her body in waves. With a smooth motion she shot after the Rebel, speed working on her side. With ease and grace she wove in and out of the different fixutres along Ingo. Her hands reached out, wanting nothing more then to tear that pretty little fin of his right off his body. Her eyes had darkened just enough to be noticeable, they showed just how angry she truly was. Her plans were to chase him from Hell and back if needed, how far were they from the borders? She was slowly gaining ground on him, but it wouldn't be fast enough this close to the borders. And sure enough the borders were rising into view, as if a brick wall had sprung up in front of her she abrupty turned to the side. She circled back as she slowed, pacing along the border line. "If I ever see you again! You're dead!" she shouted, her hands clenched and unclenched into fists at her side. Her tail was flicking in annoyance at his pure idiocy! (If you weren't planning on him going back to Rebel territory just let me know! I figured he most likely would since you mention escape!)

Cole Daniels Bonadair||18||Half-Mer||Rebel||Anxious||Talking||Tagged: Hollie
Cole listened to her story quietly, her being much different from his own. He had been introduced to his Mer side for as long as he could swim, but she hadn't. She had only known for a month and felt the same pull to Ingo as he did. He was asking himself questions in his mind. Why did your father leave? Why was your mother so scared to let you know? But he kept them to himself with as much willpower as possible. As she mentioned never meeting another Mer he was surprised but then it hit him. She just didn't know, she might have met one or two and not even know about it. But he shrugged it away, no need to put the idea into her head to go around and ask every person there was if they were one. "Really? Only a month?" He repeated, shock filling him. He couldn't imagine not knowing for his whole life what he was. But that was sorta to blame on her mother, right? When she repeated the same question to him he shrugged. "I've known my whole life. My dad kept around even though he had another family. Taught me all about what I am." he said softly, images of the family playing together filling his mind. "He dissapeared a long time ago though." he said, it sounded as if it were just an echo, so soft and distant. It was then he realized just how uncomfortable it was for him to talk about, he didn't want to talk anymore about it if he could avoid it. "That's a pretty intersting life there though. Living in London must have been pretty cool." he said, clearing his throat after he said it.

"Actually, I lied. I have met another Mer. His name is Miles." Hollie said more as an afterthought. Shrugging, she listened to Cole's tail, a frown twisting across her lips. "Seems like they like to take our Dad's away." she said sourly, then sighed.

She was surprised at his next question, or rather statement. "Well, yes. London wasn't bad. I still miss it, and my friends, but I'm much happier to be in America and know my Mer side." shrugging with one shoulder, she grinned, and looked out over the water, were Ingo seemed to be calling her. "Well, i came down for a swim, and met another half-Mer. But, I still want to swim. Would you care to join me?" she ask, itching to go swim and feel free again.

Feeling like a child, Miles stuck his tongue out and crossed his eyes, just to push her further, then laughing, he ducked away into his own territory, his laughter still ringing through Ingo like a bell. The look on her face was priceless! She'd looked like she had wanted to rip his head off! Oh, he was soo pleased with himself! Still laughing his charming laugh, he swam lazily around. Noticing a human shape above him, he realized he really was back in his territory.

Hmmm...it'd been a while since he has interacted with a full human besides Quinn...anger boiled over as he recalled hearing about her death because of his dad. He'd never, ever, been that angry.Well, it wasn't as if his dad could affect him now, he was on the Defenders side. And Miles couldn't wait for the day he faced him in battle. Just thinking about fighting his dad, made him buoyant. He didn't think he'd promised to meet Hollie today, may as well meet a regular human. He knew he was being stupid, as the girl could freak out at meeting a Mer, but he figured if he could keep his tail concealed, he'd be fine.

Popping up beside the girl, he smiled. "Hello!" grinning, he waited for a response ||@ iDrift~~By the way, he's talking to Shiloh! I hope you don't care!||

Shiloh had floated out a bit farther than expected, as her eyes were gently shut, blocking the sun from her gaze. She felt the water beside her ripple with the tension of the waves, and smiled. This was the life. Only when she heard a voice beside her speak, did she realize that it hadn't been the waves, but an actual figure that had appeared on her left side. Her eyes widened, and she let out something that was a cross between a squeal and a scream, looking over at the boy. As she exhaled all of her breath in the scream, she lost her balance floating atop the water, and went under, her head dunking below the waves. She managed to shove her head back atop the surface, turning towards the boy. She parted her lips to speak, but ended up coughing, as her suurprise had caused her to inhale several gulps of water. Once she had cleared the water from her throat, she re-opened her eyes to look at the boy. Around her age, give or take. She managed a small laugh, rolling her eyes at herself. "Yea, hi." She let out another small cough as she finished her sentance, with a dumb smirk. She wasn't normally scared this easily, or surprised like this either. I guess her borther-in-law exposing his tail-fin to her had shocked her a bit more than she let on. She was a bit on edge.
Image
"So who are you?" She asked him, once she had managed to get over her shock of him popping up beside her. Her eyes drifted down to the water, where she tried to see the boy's lower half, searching for either the kick of legs, or the glimmer of a scale. But, the water was too murky and dark for her to be able to tell. She looked back up at his face, raising an eyebrow. "And thanks, for giving me that heart attack." She rolled her eyes, dunking her head under momentarily, to straighten out her hair, which had tangled around her face when the boy had first appeared. Shiloh kicked her legs back and forth underneath the water, to stay afloat. She loved the water, but wasn't exactly and expert swimmer. She hadn't ever been to lessons, she had just been taught by Ryder, and could now see why he had been so eager to teach her, him being Half-Mer and all. Now she thought that lessons would probably have been a bit of a good idea.
--------------------------------------------------------

Image
Ryder had went underneath the waves, spinning in loops, circles, twirls, anything he could manage. Oh, how he loved the water! His eyes wide, his tail-fin siwshing through the water, he swam farther and farther, never wanting to stop. He had no idea who's territory he was in, and, honestly, he didn't care. Ryder was a bad-*ss. Always had been. Even on land. The only person he ever showed compassion or care for was his younger sister-in-law, Shiloh. Otherwise, to anyone else - human or Mer - he was a bit of a stuck-up jerk. If someone accused him of tresspassing, or whatever they called it, he would just shrug and swim away from them. He was a Half-Mer, and as far as he was concerned, that meant he could go and do as he pleased. Smiling to himself, he went about as deep as he could, feeling the pressure begin to build on his lungs. That was the one thing that sucked about only being Half-Mer. He couldn't swim as fast, dive as deep, or breathe as easily under water as the full Mer could. He swam upwward a bit, as to not stress the pressure on his throat and lungs any farther.
Image
"This is great!" He called, his voice perfectly clear underneath the water. He hadn't been in the water like this for what seemed like months, but, in truth, had only been a couple of weeks. He grinned, swimming among all the fish, scaring a few. He laughed, watching them scatter around him. His eyes drifted up to the surface, where he saw the sunlight faintly above the surface, a small white dot of reflection in the depths. He wasn't too deep, or too high. He was just deep enough. He smirked, beginning to swim. Swim and swim and swim, not caring whom he swam by, or what they said to him. All he wanted to do was swim. A part of him had longing to be full Mer. He couldn't even imagine what it would be like to do this all of the time, instead of a few hours every day. Laughing as he went, he swam farther, letting his arms rise up beside him, loving the feel of the water rush by him.

Miles laughed as the human jumped about a foot in the air. He watched her come back up, completely drenched now, and smiled lightly. He already knew she wasn't Mer, and he could tell completely by the way she tread water. She could swim, but not like a professional. Any half-Mer could swim extremely well and had almost all of the attributes of a Mer when in water, minus being able to dive as deep as a full Mer or swim as fast. It was their human side that held them back and Miles was always crazily thankful he wasn't part human.

When he asked his name, he shrugged. "I'm Miles." nothing more, nothing less. It was how he introduced himself to anyone, Mer or human. He held out a hand, and smiled a crooked smile. "Sorry for giving you a heart attack," he apologized, straight white teeth gleaming. He flicked his tail, then froze as he felt his tail brush her legs. Crap. He was lucky it was murkyish water in the shade of craggy rocks, he may be able to pull it off saying it was only a fish. He was a good liar after all. He had to be.

Glancing her over quickly, he hoped she wouldn't freak out if she somehow did manage to find out he was a Mer. Quinn had been mesmerized, and not at all terrified when he'd met her and she'd seen his tail. The changes of another human taking it as calm as she did were slim. Hopefully the girl would simply write it off as a fish. Hopefully.

Shiloh smirked at him as he told her his name, and committed his face to memory. As he held out his hand, she took it, shaking it lightly, then realeasing it, placing her own hand back in the water, treading so she could stay afloat. She smirked, rubbing a few drops of water from her eyes. "I'm Shiloh." She said, with a small nod. Yes, she knew it was a dog's name. Ryder had always teased her, saying that she pulled it off much better than the Beagle. She had swam a bit to the right, when she felt somwthing swish against her legs. At first, she thought the boy was just as poor a swimmer as she, and had kicked her accidentally whil treading. But as she felt the scales rub up against the skin of her leg, her eyes widened. Her gaze immediately directed itself down to the water, blinking in surprise. "What was that?" She asked, her voice not afraid, only curious. She wondered if a fish had swished in between her legs, then dismissed it. The scales of the fish that swam in the shallow water were rough and rigid. No, the scales that had brushed her leg felt more like...
Image
Shiloh's eyes widened further, as she took a step back, trying her hardest to see through the murky water in between the rocks. "Wait, are you...?" She left the question unfinished. If Miles was just an ordinary human, then he had probably dismissed her as crazy already. But, what if he really was a Mer, like Ryder? See, Shiloh had mis-interpreted Ryder's information about the Mer. She didn't realize that there was any difference between Mer and Half-Mer. She thought that all Mer were able to switch forms, between human, and Mer. She took another step back from Miles, redirecting her gaze back up to Miles' face, instead of searching for a tail that was impossible to see in this part of the ocean. "Are you... Are you one of them..? Mer?" She paused, unsure of herself. If this boy was an ordinary guy, like herself, he would probably want to send her to a mental hospital for the criminally insane. She took a deep breath, glancing back and forth from Miles' face, and the place in the water where there was one of two things: a tail or legs.

Nodding in return to her name, he studied her, watching closely. When she froze, he knew that she knew it wasn't a fish. Well. This couldn't end well. A small sigh escaped his lips as he watched her scoot back a few steps an he frowned as she began muttering things, finally he caught the word 'Mer'. He felt his own eyes go wide with shock, not because he thought she was insane, but what human knew about Mer firsthand?

Tilting his head to the left he kept his face expressionless as he studied her further, knowing she expected an answer. After a short pause, he opened his mouth, then decided against it, and instead nodded a yes. Expecting her to freak out had been wrong. She already knew about Mer. But how? A relative? A half-sibling perhaps? Running a hand through his dark hair, he sighed. "May I ask just how exactly you know about us?" in saying us, he was referring to the general Mer population. Blinking some more salty water from his eyes, he realized he should say something else to reassure the girl in front of him. "I won't hurt you." he added gently, voice low as if speaking to a wounded animal.
