    Izzy inspected the gashes in her hands, doing her best not to wince under the pressure of so much blood. Tandy slowly fell from her arms and landed gently in the white sand, starring up at her with his usual stitched frown. The petite girl smiled at him and dug through her backpack for Band-Aids, but all she found was a half-eaten protein bar and extra pair of shorts. A breach of water rushed onto the shore, only feet away from her exposed legs. Izzy carefully picked Tandy and her bag up from the ground and trekked further up the shore, before settling back down to clean herself up. She shivered, unable to ignore the cold air crawling up her prickling skin, and pulled Tandy back to her, deprived from warmth. The water looked inviting, but what if someone were to see her swimming out into the reef? After nearly breaking her neck to an antagonizing fall, did she really have the luck to pull herself out of another dangerous situation alive?

    “My hands hurt,” she whimpered, clearing her throat. “And this weather isn’t helping. Do you think anyone’s around, Tandy? I don’t see anyone…” The teddy bear replied with silence. “You think so?” Izzy managed a tiny smile and carefully placed him in her bag. A gust of wind nearly knocked the mermaid off her feet but she managed to maintain balance in her relief. “I’ll be back in a few. Maybe the salt water will clean out the cuts.” No response. Izzy turned and wadded out into the water, giggling and splashing in the bubbling foam. Something glistening from underneath the shoreline, and before she knew it her legs had been replaced by a gorgeous silver fin. A clunk of water sounded before she dove down under, spraying water in all directions. It felt amazing.

      Bradley smirked to himself as he heard the blue-haired girl's squeak of fright as he spoke, and shrugged, shaking his head as he stepped up onto the pier, not moving any more towards her. "Sorry love, didn't mean to scare you." He said with a light chuckle, running a hand through his hair. Now that the girl had turned around to look at him, he could see that she had a very nice, pleasant face. He wondered what she was doing, alone out here by the sea, but decided it was better to not yet ask. She could be a hunter, you never know.

      "Oh, well, I suppose I'm a bit chilled; but it's nothing you should worry yourself over," the girl retorted. Bradley raised an eyebrow at the rather hostile words coming from a girl with such a calmly-toned voice. He let out a small sigh, and shrugged a second time.

      "Only thought I'd ask; don't want you to freeze." He replied lightly, and stayed silent for a few seconds. He saw a light flash underneath the water beside the dock, and his hopes rose a bit that he might see Felix - or any mermaid - again, but realized it was only a few fish scuttering by. He looked back up at the girl with a curious hazel gaze, quirking his left brow. "So, what are you doing out here, anyway; alone?" He asked, not in a snooping manor; he just wasn't sure how else to continue the conversation.

hαzєl smíth ғeмale huntєr єíghtєєn

    When the boy apologized for spooking her, Hazel gave him an awkward sideways shrug, her gaze failing to meet his as she let it fall to his feet. "No need to apologize, I'm easily frightened," She told him in a benign tone, her smile flickering in his presence. She wasn't used to having people come up and approach her, it was usually always the other way around, which made her wonder what made this boy different than the others.

    Hazel saw by the way the stranger raised an eyebrow at her that he might have found her earlier comment to be a wee bit rude, which caused her gawky smile to pinch at the corners into a frown. "I'm sorry if that came across as bitter, I'm just... having a bit of a rough day." Hazel told him, her eyebrows knitted together, making her worry lines appear more prominent. She watched his eyes flicker to the ocean and back at her, so she couldn't help herself but look over as well. The same school of fish she saw earlier were dancing around, the sun's soft light reflecting off of their scales.

    He spoke again to her, which made her direct her attention from the school of fish, back onto him. "Well, I live nearby, and I didn't have anything better to do, so I decided to just come down here to reflect on some things," Hazel told him, bringing her hands up to rest on her hips. "And what about you? What brings you down here?"

    The sea looked beautiful, even with the weather so chilled. It always does, Izzy reminded herself, giggling in the warm water that surrounded her. A school of glossy blue fish darted past her from under the coral, their beady black eyes moving from the mermaid’s wriggling figure to the rippling surface above. She smiled and waved as they past, a few small bubbles drifting up from her nostrils. If they were surprised to see her, they didn’t make any note of it, for they were too busy escaping the jaws of an eel.

    A stream of blood trailed from both her hands, making the water murky with red. It stung badly, but not enough to take her attention away from the gorgeous reef below her. It’s so pretty. Izzy swam on, her glossy silver tale working effortlessly to keep her afloat. The current began to pick up due to the gusts of wind above and she arose to the surface, looking around for the beach. Oops. Looks like I went a little too far. The beach became a speck of white against the growing waves and was miles off; she decided to retreat, knowing she would only be pulled further out if she refused.

    Just as she prepared to dive back under, a series of gentle voices rose from the silence. Mermaids? When Izzy swerved back around, she realized how close she was to the pier—two humans were making conversation up on the rickety thing, and neither seemed to spot her from the foamy torrent. She immediately had a bad feeling and paddled towards the beach, hair spread out against her back. “I should probably head back,” Izzy muttered, her voice drowned out by the scream of gulls. As much as she wanted to stay in the warm waters, human contact was dangerous. That was something even air-head Izzy knew.

-----i waited until there was no one around to catch me. i climbed over the brass chain and extended my leg downward, reaching far until my sandel was on the plank of the ladder. i was climbing down, down from the crowds of people apon the boardwalk, down into the atlantic ocean. i was only a quarter of the way down, hands grazing the wood as i made my way down, feet settling themselves nicely, when the salt in the air sent me in what i called a trance. it was luring me in, just like a siren's call, so much that i jumped off and fell down seventy percent of the ladder, landing into the chilly waters. from the moment my toes touched the water, i began count. one. it was only cold for a moment. the water was deep; i could see it as i opened my eyes, the vast blue before me, a column of the pier infront of me covered in small clams and crabs. two. three. even from how far deep i was, i could still hear a boat's horn a while away. four. i kicked my legs frantically, moving my arms in a motion that made it look as if i was reaching to grab something, but there was nothing to grab. i pushed myself towards the surface. five. six. seven. my head broke the surface quickly, water washing over my beach blonde hair like a wave did over the tide pools. eight. my legs were still legs, kicking rythemicly to keep me afloat. i looked up at the pier and froze. a little head was peering down at me. i could feel my heart quicken in pace. nine. all i could hear was a muffled voice, one too high to be an adults but a young child, exclaim, "police! she fell!"
-----ten. eleven. much to my dismay, my two legs collided and were replaced with a golden honey tail. perfect timing, if i did say so sarcastically. i ducked my head quickly, quick enough to not hear what the child had to say about me next, but not fast enough to see his jaw drop of both confusion and shock. as i swam away, i had to sumbit to the smile breaching apon my face. wow. eleven seconds. it usually takes longer than that. my way of swimming would raise eyebrows to a human, but to a mermaid, it was a natural instinct: hands extended in what appeared to be like an arch, core of the body moving up and down rythemicly, and tail flapping behind like a dog's ears would flap in the wind. it proved to be a graceful way of swimming.
----- i'd been a mermaid long enough to know my way around the waters around lindon. i knew how to be able to swim through the boat pier without being seen by a sailor, and i knew where the rock pilars where as to not get tangled within the vast weeds. call it a sixth sense. i made it out of the tiny gulf with ease, only endless atlantic ocean and small fragments of land ahead of me. i swam. not because there was nothing else to do, but because just beyond the gates that welcomed boats into the harbor, a whale called; no, a group of whales called. a pod. my pace quickened within the water, speed well enough that my pale locks were smoothed back against my skull, out of my eyesight. my tail had light flecks of blue, mirroring thw waters around me, against the golden scales. one would call me beautiful. i didnt think so, but what was beautiful was the massive creatures before me. they were so large that twenty plus of me could fit inside just one of them, and there were six. orcas, they were. their black and white coloration was mesmerizing, jaws parted to let out a series of clicks and clacks. all but one had perfectly erect dorsal fins, and for that i took him as the leader; he was the one to approach me first. even under the water, so deep you'd have to swim for miles just to catch a meer glimpse of the sandy bottom, i found myself blushing. i gingerly lifted my hand and placed it apon his snout. a low rumble mixed with low clicks formed beneath and just as i was about to submit, i remembered this was a whale i was with, not a dog. their sounds didnt mean the same, nor did they sound as enchanting. the others were some what shreaking, conversing in their own tongue. i swam forth, weaving my way in and out, to and from between the water mammals. they seemed to be enjoying themselves.
-----in the midst of my fairytale come true, a much deeper rumble filled my ears as well as the orcas'. it was enough to scare them away, but not me. i recognized the odd clatter of metal anywhere, not a normal propelar's usual tune. why did hunters think we mermaids were so stupid that we'd not recognize a fish-human fishing boat when we saw/heard them? it was the same guy who i'd seen take his boat out everyday since i've lived here, and the same guy i'd seen looking for mermaids since i became one. the town thought he was crazy to believe such a myth, and i used to too [ but i learned eventually ], but he was strongwilled enough to not buy it. i swam away as quickly as i could, hoping i'd not been seen.

    Gunnar sat at the edge of the shoreline, shivering as the water lapped around him. The sea stretched out in front of him, glistening like the scales of minnow fish against what light the sun offered. Thunder rumbled in the distance, threatening to spill rain on his exposed figure. The boy pushed his hands deeper into the wet sand and let out a trembling sigh, watching as his transparent breath made opaque shapes in the air. It was so peaceful—nothing was out of place. Absolutely nothing. So why was it perfection never lasted?

    In the distance, a boat sped across the foaming water, stirring up a swirling torrent in its path. Gunnar frowned and ran a hand through his glossy black hair, trying to detect where he had seen the boat before. Of course. That was the boat I saw at the dock…When the fisherman were talking about hunting mermaids. His teeth clenched at the remembrance of the beautiful fish-tailed women that overtook the seas. How could anyone hunt down such innocent, mesmerizing creatures without shame? Anger built up in his stomach and faltered as it vanished into the mist. Something was bolting in the opposite direction…but what?

    Since he was but a child, Gunnar had been made fun of for his beliefs. Mermaids aren’t real, stupid, the other children would laugh. Just when he began to believe them, he moved to Hawaii with his family. That’s where he met his first mermaid; a beautiful redhead with deep blue eyes and a smile that made him grin along with her every time he saw it. When tourists began to flock to the little island to get their sight of the creatures, she disappeared, and Gunnar wasn’t sure if she had fled the waters or was caught by a hunter. He missed her. But he knew she wasn’t coming back. He’d never see that smile again.

{Carlos Minnow Schwent}
Image
Image By: http://chrisgiz12.deviantart.com/

{The Basics}

    ●name● "My name's Carlos Harren Schwent. My mom named me that for no real reason, but I've done my own research on it. Carlos comes from Charles, which means army or warrior. Minnow is well. A fish. Schwent comes from Schwandt, which means 'one who lives in a forest clearing'. How curious."

    ●nickname● "I don't have one. I respond only to Carlos."

    ●gender● "I'm a male, thank you."

    ●age● "I'm nineteen years old."

    ●birthday● "April thirtieth.

    ●birthplace● "I was born in some, coast-ern human hospital."

    ●species● "Well. Merman. My tail changes into legs when I leave saltwater, and back when I get into salt water."

    ●description● "As a merman, I have a long, silver-green tail and finned ears. As a human, I have swimmer's legs, and normal ears. In both forms I have tanned skin, brown hair, and brown eyes."

    ●role● "Well. Merman. Again."

{Digging Deeper}

    ●history● "I was born to my mother and father, mermaid and merman, in a coast-ern human hospital. They had my name picked out in advance, since they knew I was to be a boy. As soon as we were released, my parents took me to the water. They were quick to get me in the water, as if they were running away from something.

    I had a fairly normal upbringing. I went to elementary, middle, and high school on land, and I was taught about the ocean by my parents in the water. They always warned me about going above the surface, saying that some people didn't want our kind around. Something about hunters. In my childhood innocence, I didn't allow it to concern me.

    In my teenage years, I grew very close to my father. On land, we'd do all the things most boys do with their dad; play baseball, drive, chess, and other activities. In the sea, we'd help my mother around the house, various other activities. He urged me to go to college, afraid I'd waste my intelligence.

    Later, I moved out, having no desire for college. I am quite the literal water baby; all I want to do is be in the water. Especially after the death of my father. Some said it was the hunters that killed him. Others said it was a natural death. I chose to blame it on hunters, my dad was only fifty-five years old. Since then, I've done my best to avoid the surface as much as possible."

    ●personality● "It's a little odd to describe myself, but I'll give it a shot. I'm very blunt, awkward, intelligent guy. I've been called a 'man of few words'. It's hard to get me to ramble on about a subject, especially one that I do not particularly care for. I have a short temper, which can become violent. Taking that into consideration, I am also a very close minded, impatient person.

    As for being awkward, I can feel my words not flowing correctly out of my mouth. Ever had that feeling? I've made a choice to say as little as possible for that reason and that reason alone. However, I believe I make up for that in intelligence. I graduated valedictorian of my class, and had a full ride for college. I turned that down though, for what would I need a degree for a life in the sea. Besides, I had had enough of land.

    What else... It's hard to get on my good side, I don't like other people that much. I have very few friends in my life time, but I don't think I've missed out on much. I have also had a few girlfriends before. When they dumped me, it was usually because I wasn't loving, or emotional enough. Bah! Stupid humans. Emotions blind you.

    That being said, when you do get on my good side, perhaps you will see a bit more emotion. But not much. So, over all, I'm probably not the most popular guy around. Stay away from me."

    ●likes● "I like the ocean, water, swimming, fish, baseball, board games, drawing, and learning."

    ●dislikes● "I dislike humans, walking, land, cats, rats, reading, writing, math, and pollution."

    ●dreams● "I don't have any real dreams."

    ●fears● "I'm not telling... Okay fine, I fear dying, and being confined to land."

    ●allergies/medical information● "Well if I'm on land for too long I'll be stuck there forever."

{Relationships}

    ●family● "My mother and now deceased father. I have other family elsewhere."

    ●friends● "None really."

    ●enemies● "Ha! Most humans."

    ●relationship status● "Single."

    ●sexual orientation● "Straight."

    ●crush● "Ha! Impress me."

{Stuff}

    ●electronics● "Those don't work under the sea. But on land I have an old, girly flip phone.

    ●living spaces● "This is my small living place on land. Here is my ocean dwelling."

    ●pets● "None."

    ●other● "I don't think so."
------------------------------------------------------------------------

{Finn Benjamin Harley}
Image
Images From: http://weheartit.com/

{The Basics}

    ●name● "Wussup? 'Names Finn Benjamin Harley."

    ●nickname● "Most call me Finn. But my fellow hunters call me rookie. Because I'm new."

    ●gender● "Very much male, thank you."

    ●age● "Nineteen and proud, son."

    ●birthday● "June nineteenth."

    ●birthplace● "Kona, Hawaii."

    ●role● "My role is hunter."

{Digging Deeper}

    ●history● "Lets start at the beginning. I was born to my mom and dad, a loving couple, in the back seat of the car. Yup, didn't quite make it to the hospital. Eh, whatever. I got a birth certificate and all, so it's good.

    As a kid, I was a trouble maker. I didn't pay attention in school, but I wasn't a nightmare. If you think about it, I was the class prankster. Whoopee cushion on the teacher's chair? Me. Desks flipped over? My handiwork. I've done all the classics, and I've made up my own.

    In my teenage years, my popularity shot up. This was probably due to me being the quarterback of the football team. Not to mention my good looks. I mean, come on, what girl wouldn't want to be with this? I've had countless girlfriends over the course of my high school career. I guess you could say I'm a bit of a lady's man. That being said, I've been in my fair share of fights; guys didn't like me hitting on their girl.

    And now for my motivation for my career choice. My mother was killed by a merman when I was eighteen. He lured her into the water by singing. My father and I tried to stop her. We pulled on her and screamed at her. No use. She was hypnotized. She drowned that night. And all I could do was watch.

    I tried not to let that bother me. I'll have my revenge. That's why I became a hunter."

    ●personality● "Oh this is easy. I'm your jock/golden boy/ladies' man. Yup, the conceited male muscle head who thinks he can get whoever he wants. What? You have to give me props for honesty.

    I know I look good. I know I'm good at football. I'm in all the good books. I've never had a long term relationship; my longest was what? Three days? Meh. Who cares? I have my game, and I have my team mates. They're all I need. I don't need to have a woman doting on me. I already... Had a mother.

    I never had a girl really catch my eye. I've never really loved anybody except my mom and dad. In the back of my mind, I hope to be married. But I'll be okay if I don't.

    On the outside, I pretend to care. I act considerate, kind. I act perfect. As if I have pushed past my mothers death. After all, it makes others approve of me more.

    Honestly? All I care about is how others think of me. And that needs to be: athletic, good-looking, and perfect. Good at school? Eh. That people can make their own opinions about.

    All this just makes my being a hunter unlikely. Nobody'd ever expect the town golden boy to be a killer, much less of mermaids and mermen. Very few believe in this species, but I know they're real.

    I've always had very little regard for others' emotions. It makes it easy to remove a girl from my life, and it makes it easy for me to kill. Heartless much? Perhaps.

    If you've seen a T.V. show, you'd probably think I'm just a scared little boy living inside an adult. Maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong.

    Overall, I guess you could say I'm kind of a double life person, with a double personality.

    ●likes● "I like playing with girl's emotions, football, fighting, spaghetti, orange soda, and killing. Sorta."

    ●dislikes● "I dislike mermaids, mermen, seafood, soccer, being inside, and swimming."

    ●dreams● "Get revenge for my mother's death."

    ●fears● "I fear... Being found out. Loosing my status. Failing my mother."

    ●allergies/medical information● "I am allergic to peanuts."

{Relationships}

    ●family● "I have a father, a deceased mother, no sibling, and other family elsewhere."

    ●friends● "My football team, my hunting team."

    ●enemies● "Ha! Mermaids and mermen."

    ●relationship status● "Single."

    ●sexual orientation● "Straight."

    ●crush● "Ha! Impress me, girly."

{Stuff}

    ●electronics● "This is my phone."

    ●living spaces● "I live in an apartment near the ocean."

    ●pets● "None."

    ●other● "Meh. No."

Eva King

Eighteen :: Female :: Mermaid

    The salty sea air sent light breezes to play with the girl's hair. She sat upon the beach, on a sand dune a few yards to the ocean. The lass lived only about three blocks from here, and relished in that. She loved the waves and the ocean that gave them to her. There were a couple other people on the beach, so she couldn't risk getting near the water now. One touch of saltwater, and she had a tail within ten seconds. Her forest green eyes gazed at it, and she yearned to be swimming. But she wouldn't dare risk it with others. She'd have to keep coming back up to the surface and showing only her torso so they wouldn't suspect she had drowned - or changed, whatever they believed.

    Eva King was a stubborn, secretive girl with an attitude. That much could not be hidden. Nicknamed "the rebellious goldfish" by the few mermaids and mermen that knew her, she could easily live up to that name. There was a couple human teenagers around of both genders, and maybe the occasional mermaid or mermen disguised, anticipating swimming like she was. Though, her will to survive came before her wish to swim. Breathless, she pulled her knees up to her chest in an indignant way. She couldn't wait like this forever! But she had to be patient... So, as a result, she waited.

    Good thing she had brought along a few things to do. Taking a sketchbook out of her backpack, she grabbed a pencil and began to draw the open sea. Capturing every piece of sea foam, highlight against the waves, and bubble popping at the surface. Now at peace with her artwork, she calmed down, no longer angry or loud in her work. Her legs crossed under her so that no water could reach them, and she shaded, working hard to make sure it looked absolutely perfect. Her gaze blinked a few times, and she smiled sweetly. Beginning to hum melodically, Eva was able to completely calm down. She had brought a little picnic along with her, lots to do, even a blanket to sit on if the sand got hot. She had no work today in the human land; her hours weren't like that. She got paid enough and worked enough, but still got enough free time to do this. Tilting her head, she felt her legs go numb beneath her, but refused to bring them where they could get splashed by any human who was still wet from a swim.

    Now, while we're here doing utterly boring stuff when you want to get to the mermaid perspective - let's give a little character summary of our dear brunette on the beach. Born a full mermaid, Eva never knew her parents. She was raised on land, either on the streets or shuffled from foster family to foster family. She didn't discover her gift until she was around nine or ten years old. Soon after, she gained a scar along her right shoulder blade; this was given  by a fishing net. She tries to cover it up with her clothing, but if it is asked about, she gives the excuse that she was attacked by a dog. Nobody knows much about her because she's secretive about everything from her personal life to her true emotions.

    Rebellious, stubborn, straight-to-the-point. What do these words have in common? Eva. That's all anyone ever sees - a snappish, hard-headed girl who will seldom open up and show her true personality. She can be quiet or calm at times, but if you think she's being nice to you, think again. She doesn't care what anybody thinks about her, unless they have their suspicions about her species. She would never betray any mermaids or mermen that dwell among her, or even anywhere in the world. She would rather die first, really. If anyone found out, whether innocent in purpose or not, Eva Aurora King would have a very hard time trusting them. Who could trust a human species, which would like to hunt her own kind for various malicious reason? Anyone who was of her kind would be a bit mistrusting, don't you think?

    Now we return to Eva's perspective. Blinking, she frowned at the picture, glancing between the sketch and the sea. It had a good resemblance, but she wasn't sure whether she liked it or not. Flipping the page over, she turned to the next clean one, beginning to eye the gull a few feet away from her. Sketching and staring at the same time, she repetitively shifted her gaze between the seafaring bird and her notebook in hopes to get a good concept of it before it decided to fly away in panic of being so close to someone. Eva had always had a way with animals, but she wasn't sure the gull would listen to her - birds were the trickiest to charm.

    Chewing on her bottom lip, Eva deepened the roughness of the pencil against the paper, creating a darker shade and line than before. She began to quickly scribble the shadow, before holding the sketchbook up and closing one eye so she could compare. Huh. Not bad. Not her greatest piece of work, but she wasn't going to shun it, either. Smiling to herself, she shrugged, blinking and glancing up. She had to wait until these humans left the beach; she couldn't risk diving and them seeing a tail. She would rather stay alive and without trouble, thank you very much.
