(important update) music you dislike

i love taylor swift, and i owe a lot to her considering she's the reason i love music so much nowadays. she' seems like a genuinely caring person, i can vouch for this considering the thing that made me become a fan of her was that she made a video specifically for my after school program at the time. this being said, lord, i cannot stand her modern fandom, and im not a fan if her modern music. her older songs are still bangers, but i cannot witth her new stuff. i know tastes change, but i still consider myself a fan of pretty much every genre, with the exception of like, 80s r&b. but i just cant get into her newer tracks, they dont sound as poppy as the ones shes made before from what i've heard.

i think that her newer music is inoffensive and really, not bad, but they've never stood out to me. her songs seem to have the same underlying vibe even across albums from what i have heard, and there's just a weird musical aftertaste that i just can't get behind, as weird of a description as that may seem lol

but the fandom? oh. god.
some members seem to pride themselves on their extreme reputation. it's impressive, just how loyal of a following she's amassed, but it makes me entirely unwilling to consider associating myself with the vocal minority who swarm even the slightest possible criticisms of taylor. and even from what i've observed multiple times through social media, in-fandom fighting and gatekeeping is rampant, and it's just like???? guys????

i mean it makes sense because there's a lot of younger fans but this is a woman in her 30's, she does not need to be protected so valiantly!! and while most taylor fans are nowhere near the toxic minority, i have to admit it does make me slightly cautious about the fandom as a whole

Modern Polish mainstream hip hop (which is mostly rap, obviously). The lyrics are bland, and for some reason, it's played everywhere. And you know, I could not care about the lyrics being meaningless if not for the fact that every song is about the same thing. Every song sounds the same. So many people in Poland hate Skolim (me too) because of his repetitive songs, but if you listened to a playlist containing only mainstream rap, it would feel the same as if you were listening to Skolim on repeat. Crazy to think we had Paktofonika, but now we have Mata... what went wrong???

I also hate Sanah, and while I'm talking about Sanah I can also put Taylor Swift here, because Sanah is a Taylor wannabe, sorry. Both her and Taylor's songs are boring. I'll leave Taylor here because my only problem with her music is that it never stood out to me. Back to Sanah, I know most people reading this don't know her, but if you look up a translation to ANY of her songs, you'll understand what I'm talking about. Her song lyrics make no sense. She uses slang in her music even though doesn't fit at all. And because of all this, her songs are bad.

My school made me hate "soundcloud rappers." They all sound the same and it probably doesn't help that the people who listened to them basically blasted them so loud I could hear them even with them having earbuds and they were the people I found annoying anyways.

stuff like fallout boy or imagine dragons where its trying to sound punk but is super polished and says nothing interesting

the commercialised element is so real and is why I don’t really like that music either apart from some older fallout boy. feels the same as when brands like shein market ‘punk’ fashion and it’s like a pleather skirt that falls apart in 3 days lol, I like punk / grunge that sounds like it was made in grandma’s basement by angry kids banging on the walls

onto the main part of my post I really strongly dislike melanie martinez’s music & I feel like that’s my most ‘hated’ opinion that I’ve expressed online so far. I don’t think people aren’t allowed to like it obviously, I just think her lyrics can be kind of clunky with the metaphors for social issues. crybaby did the 2014 tumblr gimmick thing kind of well but k-12 and portals feel rushed in terms of production, k-12 in particular has some really grating beats. that being said I unironically enjoy listening to bladee so I dunno

can confirm, I was also a formerly edgy teen and now I've grown up and have Mammoth Grinder and Fraxiom on the driving playlist, and desperately wish I could have gone to the 100 Gecs/Deftones show that just happened lol

in terms of music I don't care for, I feel like a lot of recent indie is going in the direction of AJR and Imagine Dragons, which is mostly to say different in sound, but easily marketable and quirky enough to play in Target, but not on top 40s stations and it's a bit of a bummer to me.
