online user record broken??

what happened today for the 7 year long record of 6k people being online to be broken by 2000? i could see it being broken if it was dec 18 but april 1??? even with the event coming to an end, 8306 people being on at once in 2024 seems insane. i was expecting it to change back after rollover but its still there

that's kinda crazy?? maybe a strange mix of people trying to trade for the new store pets/grinding tokens for the end of the event? also it's spring break a lot of places too, along with the new april fools/april pets... just a lot of different things lining up i guess

see id think that except i was on around that time (and when the old record was originally set) & the lag was noticeable but NOTHING like when it was originally set, let alone for an extra 2k users.
especially on current servers where 2k people trying to do pound at once lags the hell out of the site

I doubt CS would ever do such an April Fools day prank, especially because such a prank would be more done on them instead of us, but that's super random. Even for a 2k jump, which in itself is also such a random number to spike to. Maybe people leaked the store pets to offline friends and they wanted to get them? They are pretty cool stores...

It looks like Google's search engine changed their name, so they were no longer being counted as a search engine and instead they were getting counted as logged-out players browsing the site, bumping up that count significantly.

I've reset that record back the previous value now. The site is busy for Easter, but not that busy!
