Kalons here have made a tradition of celebrating Halloween nearly all month love, and you have been through most of the regular neighborhood houses now, trusty pillow-case of treats growing heavier in your paws.
You're not ready to retire yet though - your pillowcase can still fit another handful of kit-kals - you're sure of it! What you're not so sure of is where to find another door to knock on. Most of the neighborhood has already had their fun or retired for the night.
It's as you're contemplating where to find more goodies - halfway through a handful of gummy pips - that a cold fog begins to roll in. This isn't unsual really, sometimes the warm waters of the bayou clash with the cooling October weather, and fog blankets the city.
What is unusual is the little pitter-pattering of paws you hear. You look up to call over a fellow trick-or-treater, but no kalon emerges from the fog. Maybe they went down the next street...? You can't shake the feeling that something else is watching you, but try as you might, nothing makes itself known to you. You carry on, trying to shake off the fear.

You round the corner, now clutching your emotional support candy, and see a single house with soft glowing lights. You may as well see if they're open to visitors...

>> You knock on the door, scampering up the crumbling old steps. Anything would be better than sitting out here alone.

The door swings open to reveal a tall kalon in the garb of a pirate. He beams down at you, one gloved paw resting on the hilt of the plastic sword at his side.



Hey kid, the name's Eiji. what's got you all the way out here? It's getting dark outside... and most young kalons don't stray this far into the "historic" district so close to sunset. Are the usual haunts no fun anymore? I haven't got much candy left... but I'll give the whole lot to ya if you prove worthy.

As you're mulling it over, the rustling begins again, before there's a heavy paw on your shoulder. You nearly take out both yourself and the bulky kalon behind you when you startle -- swearing you just jumped a whole foot into the air. The muscled young kalon rights you, dusting off your shoulders.





Hey -- hey. Relaaax. I know I'm the most dashing royal officer you've ever seen, but I'm nothing worth falling for. I'm Mahi - Eiji and I are good buddies. Business partners, even! Our little town's Historic sect is just brimming with happy haunts. Soooo... This year, Eiji and I set up our very own haunted house! We called the spirits right to us, rather than havin' to search for 'em like always.

"Well of COURSE we believe in ghosts!" Ulyssa rolls her eyes. "I mean, one of our moms is a ghost. It would be mean not to believe in her!" She crosses her arms over her chest. "Have you ever had anyone say that they don't believe in you? It feels really bad! So I would never not believe in someone!"

Xena shuffles forward, adjusting the collar of her vampire cape. "Lyss, I don't think that's what they meant..."

"Well then what do they mean?" Ulyssa gestures emphatically, even though she knows her sister can't see it. "They can't possibly mean that some kals think ghosts aren't real, right? That's just silly!"

"Some would say I'm a ghost myself, but I don't believe it. I've still got a beating heart!" Jett grinned. "Although...I suppose some ghosts might still have one, huh? Getting harder to prove I'm not a ghost these days." Jett sighed. His cousin shrugged, playing with her candy bag.

Do you believe in ghosts?
There's confusion in the eyes of the child for a moment, when prompted with the question. It's meant to be good fun, he thinks, but his brow furrows as he ponders how to answer that. The knee-jerk reaction is no, he doesn't believe in ghosts. There's no such thing! But then, he looks to his father. Or what may be left of the man. He never knew Kheimon as his father, but he can see traces of humanity in the monster that now calls itself his father. There's a man there, under the layers of teeth and claws and ice. There's a ghost that echoes in those cold, solid eyes. One that wishes for the past, to change the trajectory that had been laid out for him.

There's a moment of silence while Exx considers how he wishes to answer, before he finally seems to snap back into his thoughts. He glances over to the two people that he calls father.
"Yes, I think I do believe in ghosts."

**Prompt:** It somehow isn’t surprising for Arkas to have ended up in a place where he needs to track down more monsters, even if the ‘monsters’ this time have been called there on purpose. But what starts as a lack of any sort of real emotion quickly jolts to laser focus as he jumps on a chance to share his own experiences with the ghostly. “Ghosts, like any other legend, should be respected as real for the power they hold over the ones who believe in them.” He pauses for a moment, then in a much less philosophical manner continues, “Though I have whacked a few back into the afterlife with a bat before- to answer honestly.”

xxxxxThe little kit bounces back and forth gently while pondering the question over for a moment. His bouncing quickens the deeper in thought he is it seems; it's questionable on how he hasn't knocked himself over yet.
xxxxxEventually he speaks up, a cheerful glimmer in his emerald eyes, "Well of course! Have you ever had those unexplainable things happen to you? Like when you swore you opened a door only to find it closed? Or maybe when you feel a cold gust of air hit you for no reason? And what happens to someone when they pass? What happens to their soul? It can't just go nowhere!" When he spoke the words came out fast, almost muddling into one strange long word.
