Baltic Husky #484

Postby certified » Sun Dec 05, 2021 10:02 am

Slowly trying to regain my motivation so I did another RNG kid before I officially work on Transfers and Breedings.
When they were a pup, what did they want to be when they grew up? And now that they're grown up, did they do what they originally wanted or did their path change?

No max, however there's a 150 word minimum.

Kennel/Stable:Baltic Husky Reserve
Show Name: BHR Forest Fawn
Call Name: Doe
Gender: Female
Age: 6 years
Halter color(s)/Ref: Eye color and silver
Prompt: Doe was born into a lineage prized of show dogs. Growing up, she would see everyone preparing for shows, but Doe never understood the appeal. Why would you want to jog around in a ring and have a stranger poke and prod? Doe would much rather be doing something active. At her first dog show, there was not only a conformation event but also an agility competition. Doe watched the competitors fly through the course, and she fell in love. More than anything, she wanted to be able to do the same. She started to train her agility. One way she trained was by placing toys in a straight line and weaving between them. She also started jumping over any napping dogs. That led to a few unfortunate wakeups. Seeing her behavior, her owners realized that Doe wasn't meant for a life in the show ring. She was sold to Baltic Husky Reserve who has been able to focus on her agility training and competitions. Since then, Doe has been living her dream. (173/150 minimum)

Kennel/Stable: Denali’s Snowy Paws
Show Name: DSP’s Drippin’ in Klondike Gold
Call Name: Ebey
Gender: Female
Age: 5 years
Halter color(s)/Ref: Navy Blue gradient w/ Gold
Prompt: [285/150]
Ebey was born to pull, born to breathe in that fresh mountain air, born to save any and all life. In fact that’s why her parents even had her litter, to release more heroes into such a cruel world. Yes, it had major stakes and can be considered such a lump some dream to pawn a wee pup. But for Ebey, it made her look forward to the age of where she could join the National Parks Service K9 first responders team. In fact that’s why she was named after the Washington parks.

Ebey had aged like fine wine with her handler exceeding nearly every test to make her the dog she was born to be. Yet when she was ready to walk her graduation stage, a tragedy had occurred. Ebey had been career changed and her handler that had trained her from puppy hood, was never notified until now. Ebey had failed her last test, the most important test of them all detecting live human scents. All because Ebey had a mild allergic reaction to the pollen flittering in the air.

Crest fallen, handler and prized husky returned home. All of Ebey’s littermates had been turned over to new handlers each slowly becoming the heroes they were meant to be. But the handler was lost on what to do with Ebey so they donated her to the National Parks anyways. The parks was grateful to have her anyways, they placed her in one of their most readily visited museum. Ebey was now a greeter, getting the gentlest of pats from hopeful hikers and friendly strangers wanting to learn about the gold rush.

Maybe the career change was in fact the best for little Ebey.

- This is written from Azar's perspective -

(Flashback)
I was born in the small town of Highcrest. I was part of a litter of 5, with me being the second born. I was a curious pup always exploring and searching. One of my favourite things to do was stare out the window watching the world go by. There was always one thing that piqued my interest and that was the red trucks. My mother told me they were firetrucks and were used to put out fires. Since learning about them I decided I wanted to be a fire dog when I was big enough. I'd drag my siblings around pretending i was rescuing them, or I'd urinate on the house plants extinguishing pretend fires. Over time people came and I always was the first to greet them hoping they'd take me to my new home but I was always turned down. On a particular sunny day, a tall and broad man came over. He sported a handlebar moustache and talked in a low gravely voice. When he picked me up his hands were rough and calloused but he had a gentle touch. Looking up at him he had a smile on his face and he heartedly said 'You are perfect'. Saying good bye to my old owner I was placed in his car and I waited eagerly to see what the future had in store for me.
(End Flashback)

It's been 4yrs since that day and I'm proud to say I'm a fire dog. Well not exactly but I'm part of the Highcrest Fire Brigade. I have my own firehouse kennel where I lay when I'm not busy hunting down pesky vermin. Whenever my owner gets called to a fire, I'm placed in my harness and I get to sit in the red truck. The loud noises and the rushing speed of the truck gets my blood pumping. Sometimes if I'm lucky enough I get to press the siren button and I howl along. While I may not to get help put out fires, my job is still extremely import. When we are at a scence I console scared children or pets or I sit with people and try to calm them down. Sometimes when the smoke is bad, I get to wear my doggles. But fighting fire isn't the only thing my owner does. Boating accidents, car accidents search and rescue you name it. I've helped in many incidents and being part of the team is very lucky for me. I'd never thought I'd be fire dog and just would ended up pulling sleds for the rest of my life.

Owner: Firedancer77
Kennel/Stable: Rose Petal Kennels
Show Name: RPK's Hold or Fold
Call Name: Celeste
Gender: Female
Age: 5 years old
Halter color(s)/Ref: Surprise me!
Prompt:
Celeste was bred for bomb detection. Her parents were two of the best, paired specifically because they both had an aptitude for it, and the intention was for Celeste and her littermates to follow suit.

And until she was 3 years old, Celeste did. Celeste went through all of her training, and, upon graduating, was working alongside her handler on the battlefield. She was great at what she did, a natural just like they expected her to be. That all changed when Celeste's handler was shot in combat. Though they survived, the injury resulted in them being discharged, as they could no longer serve. Due to her skill, they tried to pair Celeste with another handler, but they could not form a connection. Three others attempted to pair with her, but the result was always the same: Celeste would not cooperate with another handler.

With no other choice, they were forced to retire her a few months later. They reached out to her first handler to see if they would like to adopt her, and though they wanted to, they were not in a position to do so. They were still recovering (and so did not believe they were physically capable of providing the exercise and stimulation a Baltic Husky needed) and had already adopted a smaller dog shortly after being discharged as a recommendation from their therapist for emotional support. With that no longer being on the table, a deal was eventually struck with Rose Petal Kennels.

It took some time to coax Celeste out of her shell. She was stubborn as heck, refusing to open up to any of the new dogs or humans, and it was a struggle to get her to eat, drink, and move. That depression continued until Scylla found her way to the kennel. Scylla had been found on her own, and though she was old enough for solid food, she was obviously still a pup who desperately needed a parent. When someone suggested they see about introducing the two, there was a slight hesitation, but it was eventually decided that it was worth a try, provided a handler remain with them the whole time. Maybe a puppy would be exactly what Celeste needed.

It wasn't some magical love at first sight. Celeste ignored Scylla at first, going to the other side of the room and looking rather pointedly towards the wall. But Scylla was a persistent little thing who didn't seem to understand that Celeste wanted nothing to do with her, and slowly but surely she forced her way into Celeste's heart. She kept following the older Baltic Husky around, barking every now and then after trying to sniff at her and curl up next to her. Celeste eventually seemed to give up, reluctantly allowing her to curl up by her paws and sleep.

An hour or so later, the handler removed Scylla from the room, believing it to be a bust, only for Celeste to scratch at the door, wanting out. It was the first time they ever saw her try to engage them in such a fashion, let alone hear her howl when she seemed to think they were ignoring her. The handlers were confused as to what had her so riled up, as the only thing they had changed was removing Scylla as they tried to figure out who else could potentially care for the little puppy. With no better leads, they brought Scylla back into the room, and were shocked to find Celeste immediately settle down.

From there, Celeste finally opened up to them. It seemed that serving as a foster mother for Scylla was exactly what she had needed; though it was entirely different from what she was bred and raised to do, Celeste took to it like a fish to water. It wasn't just Scylla either; Celeste was a natural with puppies, even opening up and playing with them in a way they never imagined she would before. Scylla had knocked down whatever wall was keeping Celeste from opening up, and it was like the life had been breathed back into her. Moving forward, Celeste has been the primary choice for fostering puppies that find their way to Rose Petal Kennels, and she has never seemed happier.
