Poem: The Cross of Snow by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, 1879
There is a mountain in the distant West
That, sun-defying, in its deep ravines
Displays a cross of snow upon its side.
Such is the cross I wear upon my breast
These eighteen years, through all the changing scenes
And seasons, changeless since the day she died.
The full poem is about twice this length, so if you'd like to read the full one, here is a link to it!

Poem:
“Thy heart, indeed, I know not:
But mine, oh! Cruel, love
Warms by day and by night;
And all my faculties are centred on thee.
Thee, O slender maid,
Love only warms;
But me he burns;
As the day-star only stifles The fragrance of the night-flower,
But quenches the very orb of the moon.
This heart of mine,
Oh thou who art of all things the dearest to it,
Will have no object but thee.”
